    Most of the videos were cropped from 4:3 to 16:9 to fit wide-screen TV which was a pity

    Thank you for this video and all your videos! Coming Up is also one of my favorites; very creative. Tug of War excellent also. I would like an updated blu-ray release.

    They did sing live on the Hey Jude and Revolution video. Of course the music was a backing track.

    Hey John, love your channel buddey. Leaving a comment to ask a small favour. A lot of your reviews are great, the problem being i do not have access to a lot of your reviews. So was wondering if you could upload the actual albums for a listening experience. Can clearly see you have an abundance of great albums, be great to hear some of these.
    Sure you can circumvent copyright. Interested in Bob Dylan as a lot of 70s stuff not available, would love his bootleg and basement tapes.
    Keep up your great work.
    Kind regards

    Good information John, thank you. I will get that compilation based on your review. I remember a televised program of music videos from Back to the Egg in ‘79.

    A very nice sounding set that could use a blu-ray upgrade and update to include the Mc III videos.

    I bought this set at a greatly reduced price in a shop in Torquay a good few years ago. One of the big bonuses with this set is that the videos are all in 5.1 surround sound which makes them immersive to watch and listen to.

    Excellent video John, you think of things to cover that other video makers just aren't doing. And thank you because I'm quite a big Beatles and solo Beatles fan and I didn't even know of this Paul McCartney DVD set, so I'm straight on eBay looking for that. Cheers

    To be fair to Eric Stewart, he was wearing shades in Take It Away because of enduring eye problems following a serious car crash in 1979. A friend of mine played truant to be in the audience for this video...

    Yes John, its an excellent set that needs updating in content & format. I remember going to the Liverpool Beatles Convention i1989 and a guy was selling promos on video with over 90 on it. There's a great release there somewhere if they can be bothered to put it together. Cheers

    I was legit just about to pause this to comment that maybe why there's no Driving Rain material is it was too much a reminder of the Heather Mills years -- and then you echoed the sentiment right before I typed it ;)

    This was a great DVD compilation and could use an upgrade in the quality.It's frustrating that they only gave snippets of Unplugged,Chaos At Abbey Road,Glastonbury,etc.The snippets of Rockshow got a proper reissue the others need the same treatment.Thank you.

    Baby's Request was a double-A with Getting Closer in the UK. Paul seems to like the song (and justifiably so), which may be why it was included. But it _was_ more than just an album track.

    John - I wish they had a video collection for each of the individual Beatles solo careers that included every video they ever made. It would be fun to have them all on one big DVD set with all their videos in chronological order. I would also love to have a DVD set of every one of their songs that they have performed live on film (with some talented editor picking out which performance is the best one - to be included on the set). Question for you... since you were talki9ng about McCartney videos: What do you think of the "Appreciate" video (and the song as well)?

  • @jldraw
    @jldraw 3 года назад +2

    Well as I'm sure you know already John, McCartney since he began his Archive Collection series has been issuing DVD content within the deluxe editions of those sets inclusive of all of the promo films inherent to the specific album that is being highlighted. It's interesting that this time around he's opting to present the promo films in their original aspect ratio which while I personally prefer, I will just as soon readily admit it's probably not worth the financial investment if you are hoping for a significant quality upgrade. That said these bonus DVDs do fill in the gaps left out by THE MCCARTNEY YEARS set. For instance the "Wild Life" deluxe box includes all four promo films for "Mary Had A Little Lamb" including one that had never been screened publicly before with Wings in magician costumes doing a very magical, mystical send-up of the song. Unfortunately one thing worth noting, to my ears anyhow when these promo films have been reissued on DVD for the most part if there were live vocals for the benefit of the BBC, McCartney has chosen to overdub them with their CV counterparts so regrettably those live vocals are not to be heard. So I guess it's up to the individual consumer whether it's worth it or not to collect the bonus archive collection DVDs because while there are certainly some treats to be found, they are far from definitive in certain ways as well.

    Weren’t there Musician’s Union restrictions in the UK in the mid-60s that blocked the use of lip-sync in broadcast promo clips?

      The McCartney Years collection is a 480i 7500 kps DVD, an average Blu-ray would be 1080i 28000 kps

    I’m a Beatles video collector, specially Paul and the McCartney Years DVD at the moment is very very very outdated, a lot of bad restorations/scans and horrible 16:9 crops. The only good thing from it is the 5.1 mixes imo.

  • @PlanetoftheDeaf
    @PlanetoftheDeaf 3 года назад +2

    It's a great set, but the commentary is pretty bland. Maybe it would have been better if someone had been there to talk with Paul and bring out interesting insights. Seeing Linda in all those videos must have dampened his mood, but it would have been nice if he had occasionally poked fun at himself, whether the video ideas, his hairstyles or fashion choices (e.g. the Waterfalls cardigan!)

      @@fourthtunz I agree, Paul has a lot of songs not available on itunes/amazon/etc. For the last couple of years I have been buying Paul's cd singles from the 80s and 90s to have more of his material, since there aren't available online either. I also agree that is a great song! It might be available on the London Town 1993 remaster from the Paul McCartney collection series.
