    I really like Owens' relationship with Jess Phillips and Jacob Rees Mogg, both have got to be two of my favourite MPs. Even though I really don't like labour, Jess Phillips is the kind of MP I want to win. One that genuinely seems to care, even if I don't agree with many of her ideas. Also its so uncannily true what she said about 'pavement politics' being one of the most important things for people!

      Think she was talking about her own constituency. In any event, things like that kind of sea change happen rarely, but when they do happen they tend to be seismic. As the famous book, "The Strange Death of Liberal England" describes, many parts of the UK were tribally Liberal until the Labour Party replaced them. Nevertheless, things are changing and people are nowhere near as tribal as they once were

  • @nathanjackson5859
    @nathanjackson5859 7 лет назад +1

    I was a Labour party member and then quit and joined the Liberals because of Brexit. However, hearing Tim Farron say he won't work with Tories to try and mitigate their policies on brexit and other policies there is now no point to vote Liberal because they don't want to do anything to halt a Tory rampage. Furthermore hearing the Labour manifesto has brought me back to Labour, I think its exciting, achievable and can be paid for.

    Hi everyone! I've been asked to do videos with a range of MPs during the election campaign: lined up, we have Angela Rayner, Clive Lewis and Keir Starmer. As you can see, there's no putting the boot into the Labour leadership here, which the rest of the media have covered to be honest. For those saying they want Labour MPs they disagree with to lose: you do realise that will mean a Tory landslide, right?

    • @danr6220
      @danr6220 7 лет назад +9

      Owen Jones nobody wants that they're just venting frustration because it's deserved for people like her who have acted counter productive during Corbyns entire tenure, even in this video she insults labour voters by calling them tribal in comparison to the tory voters. How are we going to get a centre left labour elected when the MPs won't accept it?

I don't know if I agree with her on everything and I don't know if gentle conflict or laboured listening is her thing, though it's harder in real life she obviously does canvass and do parliament and all sorts. And that's her prerogative and more so just part of the style I like as well.

    Labour used to stand for the working man but that is now not the case.I voted Labour all my life religiously until 2010,but I've now realised that Labour bankrupts the country then the Tories have to come in and sort the mess out.They say they will leave the EU but what they want is to keep payments stay in single market and be ruled over by European courts, so they want to leave in name only that's not what we voted for.On Trident the whole point of a nuclear deterrent is to say that you would use it to deter people from attacking you,Jeremy Corbyn can't do that and is an IRA sympathiser, Diane Abbott in charge of MI5 is laughable not to mention John McDonnell is a Marxist.I could go on as I feel so strongly on these subjects,Labour are not fit for power.

  • @kathybramley5609
    @kathybramley5609 7 лет назад

    I am excited about the election. Strength in diversity. This might be a bit more then blowing the doors off.
    In my alma mater constituency, taking numbers outside the polling station in Ambergate, Amber Valley. It was outlying conservative voters in the general that were the most stable vote. They came out for the general automatically. That was why it just me sitting there, not a conservative teenager, they didn't have to get their vote out. Though perhaps that process is a bit creepy and self defeating stalkerish. But at the same token, some family won't ever not vote Labour. I've voted Plaid Cymru in Wales and Greens here in Shipley, West Yorkshire in council elections, and my councillors are Green. But generals, similar here to Amber Valley, a little bit anyway. And the conservative wards in the constituency and the more rural areas bring out their conservative vote in general elections.
    I'm not sure how wide the family is, and there's great aunts that don't get on and only see each other but don't speak at big dos, but will sometimes drop that eventually. Time will tell.
    Not all families stay together or if they do not happily.
    I liked the idea of the film. But it can't always be like the heartwarming film. Sometimes that's the film we're watching when it seems like everything's falling apart.
    As I say I think there's hope. The trend in polling, the nurse conference, the reception to the referendum - the successful and yet very traditional short phrase. Not one of mine lol, but I like it! Even Corbyn saying he's not a pacifist - personally disappointing plus point for the electorate. It's looking good. I just wish there were pollsters and journalists and more people drenching this entire constituency of Shipley more ways. But I am still kinda hopeful for Steve Clapcote. Dragonboat winning team for the Sunday. We know surprising things can happen!!

      Music Lover He's not the first or last politician to try engaging with the Middle East in various ways, working with the complexity. Things get said and done, like with the bullingdon club, when people are young and bent on living their values: anti colonialism and wild negotiation to process the angst and toxin of Northern Ireland and bring them to the table could be understandable in my book, but it is actual lives involved and does make uncomfortable reading. We look at news from far away and try to identify heroes and villians but it's rarely that simple. I am thoroughly ashamed of English oppression of Ireland and wish positive community, I think Corbyn does too. And McDonnell. All my life I have been thoroughly ashamed of our nations past in many ways even while living family friends and neighbours and bonded with many things about our culture and history. But it's very important not to let blind nationalism set a price on our own protection and continued relative privileges as a nation above those of other people. To justify that would be to stand with every bigot who ever mowed down a person in Ireland or abroad in the name of King/Queen and country, in my name. Not in my name.

    • @kathybramley5609
      @kathybramley5609 7 лет назад

      andy mane Have you read privilege 101 of the many versions available on the Internet also what I am ashamed of is my own business, my awareness and relation to injured suspicious or judging parties, and shame is barely always chosen anyway. It's a feeling. And yet it is one I choose, I still benefit from the privileges acted and built up and hurts are still active: "other people did it too" - like the Belgians in Congo for example- that was never an excuse in school. Also European colonialism was something exercised by individual countries but not done in isolation. Corporate responsibility is also a thing and if my family owned Nazi gottenloot I'd be ashamed and want to give it back and indeed our country still holds many national treasures of other countries and business backed by Britain and it's diaspora or influenced tend to be at roots of many bad things

    Campaigning on the doorsteps of her constituency is very admirable. And all to keep her job under a leadership she doesn't support. A man who's supported by a large proportion of the party. And whose policies are welcomed by a huge proportion of the country. But keep quiet about the positives. Just keep trotting out the divided and despondent theme.
    It's seems strange she's standing again given how much she doesn't agree with the membership's choice of leader and the direction the membership want to go in. And in that lies the Labour Party membership's problem. She's currently a Labour Party MP, but she doesn't support the Labour Party's wishes. And more bizarrely she's not the exception, she's the rule. The PLP stopped being socialist over two decades ago, but no one sent out the memo so most of the membership never realised. And for the ones that did it was too late.
    I'd urge everyone to vote for the best placed candidate to defeat the local Tory, with the exception of UKIP (obviously). I hope that Labour can win a majority and form the next Government. But if the likes of Owen Jones manage to talk them down to the point the Tories win by a large majority I hope that many of the CLPs wake up and clean house. Because by the next election the people of the country will be begging for a strong and stable alternative. :D

    Under Labour the 45% tax rate won't bring in anything like the tax required to fund labours vast spending programs which includes promises to ensure a Bank and fast broadband in every community, a raise for public servants, more for NHS, education, refugees and all the rest. They will then start seeking tax from the rest of us. If you want to thrive under Labour, get on the sick or join a minority such as the Traveller community.
    BBC is nationalised and full of high paid fat cat luvvies and a ton of staff that take loads of time off to have children at the tax payers expense. Don't think Labours new nationalised industries will keep your bills down,

    I would happily vote for Jess Phillips. If she was wrong to criticize Corbyn as leader then Labour will win the general election in June. She is committed, honest and credible. She fights for what she believes in and succeeds in representing ordinary, oppressed and disadvantaged people. No ideological notions that either won't work or won't get support - just real politics.

    • @davidparry5310
      @davidparry5310 7 лет назад +5

      'If she was wrong to criticize Corbyn as leader then Labour will win the general election in June.'
      On the contrary, it's precisely *because* of the efforts of people like her within the PLP to sabotage Corbyn's leadership that Labour almost certainly won't win in June.
      'No ideological notions that either won't work or won't get support - just real politics.'
      Corbyn's ideological notions would work a lot better and, I think you'll find, have a lot more popular support than what we've been trying for the last three-and-a-half decades or more - a set of ideological notions that manifestly haven't worked in any sense, have little popular support and which, incidentally, Jess Phillips and her Labour right-wingers cling to stubbornly.

    • @Rory_Arlo
      @Rory_Arlo 7 лет назад

      Thank you for your reply. I agree, personally, that there is a great deal to reform in our political/economic system, however, I think where we collide is on where the responsibility lies for Corbyn's failed leadership. Just to provide some context I voted for Corbyn in the first leadership round, however soon after learned that he may not win the GE - something I couldn't believe at first! This made me question whether or not he should lead the party...
      Why wouldn't other member's of Labour party, who disagree with Corbyn's far left, radical views, need to challenge him? They are representing people in the country who have no interest in such ideas as anti Trident and even anti austerity. I understand the advantage of the PLP appearing to be in support of Corbyn but I believe they consider the reality of their constituents' views, which do not in fact relate to socialism. It would be easy for Corbyn and his supporters to place responsibility away from themselves.To say that the media and other politicians are criticizing them unfairly and that most people would support them. However, its clear that the far-left membership, who elected Corbyn, do not represent the country at large - a group of people who are primarily in the centre ground of politics. To lead the Labour party to government the task is to lead both sides of the party, not just the far left.

    I think as an individual MP Jess has done some great things, especially the work on domestic violence. I would like male victims like myself to at least be acknowledged that we exist in that debate, it the work she has done for female victims has been a big step forward.

      Mmm. We donate half our monies raised in the non political non partisan Shipley Feminist Zealots to CALM when we deliver cake and try to keep Phillip Davies accountable in the constituency. But there's a question about whether we're looking like appeasers and diluting our message - a bit like the Labour Party and the immigration mug I think though it's never been mentioned that I have heard being outside of any party, being full of a mix of libdems, social anarchists, labour supporters, non political people and in theory any conservative anti-Davies ppl.
      The Labour Party has always been supposed to be a broad church while representing the interests of "labour" - of the many in a humanised way, and also beyond the reaches of workplaces where unions can't go. And also involving a range of theorists and allies from all classes.

    • @kathybramley5609

      Philip Davies says he represents women's interests and mens interests, but he talks down bills about hospital parking charges after saying he stands up for carers (he argued it was a bad bill but there were other opportunities for scrutiny and he isn't a God in parliament, but consistently with his gambling industry links he sees his role as taking what power he can get, seeking rather ruthlessly to game the rules of parliament): despite his protestations and filibustering, the Istanbul convention specifically mentions male victims of domestic violence. The stats are still disproportionate and that's why it's giving a proportional representation to those issues, especially considering historical patriarchy. It is representative of considerable progress overall that Davies recourse against feminism is to play the equality card, badly. But that progress was not gained by the likes of him.

      I don't know all the ins and outs of what's being done politically. All I know is, my boyfriend would goto church on Sundays, hear all the anti gay messages, come home, take it all out on me, then apologise the next day. On the 'final' Sunday, he decided to use a piece a skirting board and smack me round the head abit with it. When the hospital convinced me to let them call the police, the police arrived and once they established that my boyfriend wasn't as tall as me, I was told It would be advisable to learn to defend myself. I then heard the words "man up for gods sake" as they chuckled down the corridor.
      So all I know is, the police didn't give a damn, only my brother did when he found out what was going on.

    • @brucebartup6161
      @brucebartup6161 7 лет назад

      Adam, you put the tin lid on the thing. Male on male violence in general is much higher than male on female violence. If it's any help to you I have a gay friend whose drug addict boyfriend stabbed him in the stomach before doing a bunk. The case was handled by the Met. and despite being so messy what with a big age gap,drugs involved, he-said he-said and so on my friend had nothing but the highest praise for the cops. So maybe things are changing, or maybe my friend got lucky - but more probably because my friend is well educated and the boyfriend not so much. Class again. Any way I hope that gives you some comfort that things might not always be as bad for other people as they were for you.
      So yes ALL violence needs highlighting. And poor male kids do more of it than most other people, and are the primary suffers from that violence. Primacy should NOT be given to Violence Against Women. Agreed.

    Owen I wrote a comment 24hrs ago saying how now I am going to vote Labour. Well, now, I think am going back to the Liberals because of the referendum offer in there manifesto and there policies are still to the left. To be honest I expect to change my mind again before the 8th June.Therefore,I think it would be good if you did a video comparing Labour and Liberal policies and exploring their predicted impact on the country whilst also covering brexit territory and foreign policy. Thanks I know you put a lot of effort in your videos and you must find it hard to find to make them but I do think that would be a good topic.

    Did Davies hate disabled people or women or relatives/carers of the hospitalised, or anybody getting statutory help with intimate partner violence, or people in bad housing situations, foreigners, when he attacked related movements, bills and rights? He wants to help everybody escape from the tyranny of bad and unnecessarily divisive "lunatic" legislation and movements apparently! He and his supporters say so. Why wouldn't Jess Phillips on Men's Day be at least slightly the same?

  • @pjbainzo93
    @pjbainzo93 7 лет назад +26

    Having lived basically my whole life in Birmingham, I think Jess Phillips would communicate really well with a lot of brummies. Whilst there's a place for policy wonks and ideologues - which many people watching this video might find more engaging - in Westminster, it's important to have representatives who can speak with people who don't give a crap about Karl Marx.

    • @kathybramley5609
      @kathybramley5609 7 лет назад

      pjbainzo93 What about idealologues who haven't really given a crap about Karl Marx. He's always been one of many inspirations, with varying roles for various people. The tradition or very loose terminology of Marxism isn't at all 100% verbatim singularly interpreted fundamentalist literalist cult worship, it's progressed like most social theory. And tbh it's highly insulting and questionable, not necessarily because Marx is all crap, but it's similar to assigning all social concern or say sacrifice to Jesus, seeing Christ types in all literature: there's a conservative rhetoric by which this one partly respectable figure of leftwing historical thought is made into a hypercritical weirdly hyperbolic branding smear. It's ridiculous! And we all need to work against this high dudgeon. If Marxism is a religion it's cultish and intolerant to turn Marx into some all powerful force majure carcrash Antichrist, it's also isn't respectful of party members and people who have made a lot of inroads under that inspiration, also if it isn't a religion or cult then maybe it's high time we stop treating it like one.

    • @kathybramley5609
      @kathybramley5609 7 лет назад

      pjbainzo93 We need to show respect to each other in the party, and to people and to the sanctity and reality of ideas generally: unless you don't care about unity, safety or sense. Because there's a wing of the party that's very incautious about high powered outsiders and glitz and glamour and in accepting the heirarchy narratives that do great disservice to the many. At the same time they also seem ready to give in and insult them as herding animals on stampede and listen to whatever is said uncritically without debates and negotiations with everybody. They reduce people to mugs. Sorry - couldn't resist that pun.

      Hi, thanks for your comment. Apologies if my comment came across as flippant. It was only intended to illustrate that the vast majority of people are not into their political theory, and was not intended to equate all leftisit thinking with Karl Marx, although I can see how it may have come across that way. It was also not meant to be adversarial to anyone who is a fan of Marx in the slightest (myself included). im not a member of the labour party, but I agree that the labour party should be striving for unity. Apologies if my comment went against that sentiment.
