I love your comment so much! I (and coworkers) care for about 40 folks with dementia. The holidays are hard when there are no family or friends to spend time with them. We try to make Christmas extra fun. Hot chocolate, cookie and tree decorating, a pajama party, homemade ornaments, etc. But for my contribution, I started playing my Pentatonix holiday playlist last year to see if anyone liked it. OMG!! They loved it! They really liked hearing familiar holiday songs sung in new, fun arrangements. They stop and really LISTEN! Just to see what would happen, I passed out jingle bells and boy did that get a party started! Dancing and singing broke out and we had a real party! This year I made a video playlist and I hear comments like, "Wow, these kids are pretty good!" and "Did you hear that little guy hit that high note?!" So much fun. I volunteer to work on Christmas every year. I wouldn't miss it for the world. Pentatonix probably have no idea how much joy they bring to so many people at Christmas. I can't hear it in my head the traditional way anymore..... Have seen people comment that some churches are attempting to sing it this way now because it is more joyous and full of energy.

Just about my favorite PTX song, except maybe Hallelujah. And they are all so young and attractive. Now they are growing up. Matt , Kevin and Scott married, cute little Kirsty married and engaged, Avi gone to find a more relaxed environment.
I would say Avi has found a more supportive environment, rather than relaxed. He is still composing, performing, networking, teaching, and definitely touring in a way that allows him to regenerate so it works for him. The life of a creative artist can be filled with challenges or struggle that are not outwardly apparent. I get what you mean, tho.
I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to listen to this song the old tradition way again, you can always dream about Kirstin, lol, she definitely has blossomed into a beautiful woman

This was done in the style of African Gospel music. A number of African choirs have picked up this arrangement and sing it now. I think this song has always sounded boring, somber, and morose until this arrangement. Now it sounds like a celebration.
