  • Time Team investigate a site that is thought to contain an enormous Roman villa, full of exquisite Roman mosaics. The catch? Half the site is buried underneath a railway line. Is there really a Roman Villa buried here and how much of it survived the construction of the Great Western Railway?

3:57 History Hit should consider changing 'It's like Netflix for History' to something else, as 'Netflix' is almost a pejorative to most of its potential costumers.
I certainly regard 'Netflix' with a negative connotation, if not outright disdain.

    • @RatelHBadger

I think it's more the style of the format under comparison. No other streaming platform is as universally known and understood "what it is" across the world. The politics behind Netflix are up for debate, but I would certainly agree, History Hit is like a smorgasbord streaming service just for history documentaries.

LONDON/IVM should be always very proud that it was established by IMPERIVM ROMANVM - THE MOST POWERFUL EMPIRE, not just physically. Rome is a TESTIMONY to THE GREATEST EMPIRE THAT EVER EXISTED, from province of Hispania to province of Mesopotamia, from province of BRITANNIA to other ROMAN provinces of Aegyptus, Africa,Alpes Cottiae, Alpes Maritimae, Alpes Poenninae, Arabia Petraea, Armenia Inferior, Asia, Assyria, Bithynia, , Cappadocia, Cilicia, Commagene, Corduene, Corsica et Sardinia, Creta et Cyrenaica, Cyprus, Dacia, Dalmatia | Epirus | Galatia | Gallia Aquitania | Gallia Belgica | Gallia Lugdunensis | Gallia Narbonensis | Germania Inferior | Germania Superior | Hispania Baetica | Hispania Lusitania | Hispania Tarraconensis | Italia | Iudaea | Lycaonia | Lycia | Macedonia | Mauretania Caesariensis | Mauretania Tingitana | Moesia | Noricum | Numidia | Osroene | Pannonia | Pamphylia | Pisidia | Pontus | Raetia | Sicilia | Sophene | Syria | Thracia
Brittania - an obsession of IMPERIVM ROMANVM and roman emperors , Rome was so obsessed with winning the access to Britannia, many did not understand why, it was lacking strategic location of Hispania or Gaul, yet Rome has waged a war after war to conquer her. Rome centre was the medditerranie which catapulted it to Superpower of antique world , Yet Brittania was like magnet for the Rome, so much so that they the Romans didnt know when to let go... Only they know why ...

I agree, It may have been a brutal life for most, BUT almost anyone could become a Roman citizen and the benefits were many. Better food and opportunities for a start. You could always get a job and learn a trade, which beat the hell out of subsistence farming. It was possible to make a fortune. For those who wanted to see the world it was heaven on earth.
For anyone who aspired to improvements beyond their own ego however, it would have been very disappointing. Urban middle class life was just as superficial, corrupt and stagnate as it is today.
