One of the most underrated sit coms of any decade......hilarious..original..full of individual set pieces....cameo performances...every actor finely attuned to their roles...and laugh out loud funny...a great show...Colin was my favourite..the very antithesis of a keep fit employee
I love the Brittas Empire and find it both sad and very strange how it has become little more than a footnote if ever thought of at all. Like all great British sit-coms it was an ensemble piece reliant on the entire cast giving all they had. As for 'favourite character it HAS to be 'Colin'. He is in a glorious traditional sit-com category of the 'good-hearted but bewildered fools' essential to all of that old style. They all had them whether it was Corporal Jones [Dads Army], Baldrick [Blackadder] , The Major [Fawlty Towers], Trigger [Only Fools], Officer Crabtree [Allo Allo] and many others they all had this bewildered lunatic who meant well and had limitless desire to help but had zero capacity for common sense. Colin was a hilarious walking 'Near Death Experience' in every single episode!
Thanks so much for commenting! Absolutely agreed, one of my favourite shows. I nearly included that electrocution scene that was definitely a near death experience - but they do hilariously reveal they booked the pool again the following week!
My favourite actual sitcom ever. It's close. And Red Dwarf itself is high up there in my top 10 fosho. But I can marathon this monthly and still laugh at every comedy gem in it.
Now I feel I need to re watch it- I don’t remember this much death and mayhem- some of it is pretty dark. My memory of it was more casual. Met Chris Barrie once- lovely down to earth bloke.
Yeah it seems a few comments are surprised by how dark it was in retrospect! Also that’s cool to hear that you met Barrie, nice to know he’s a great guy
one of my favourite shows, met chris barrie and even said to him its a shame they dont make shows like this anymore. gordons charactor changes over the series, would be really interested to find out the reasoning why? did the audience find him to annoying in the early series, later series he was still annoying but had a lot more "love" for his staff.
I saw Jill Greenacre from the show in a Pantomime show here in the UK because I was a fan of the this show, and had a chance to go for a drink with her and the rest of the cast afterwards. Like an idiot, I didn't take up the opportunity. Regretted that ever since
This show should have been called "still a Smeg-Head" Red Dwarf Fans will get the joke. Chris Barrie plays a very similar character in Red Dwarf, and the other cast's favourite insult to Barrie. was Smeg-Head.
He also took one of my mates Spotlight photos when we were at drama school back in the late nineties. He lived in the High Barnet area of North LDN. He's a good portrait photographer.
The last 2 series weren't as good, but the first 5 series of this show were great. It's really underrated in the British sitcom fanbase, and deserves more love. I suppose the admittedly dated and bland sets and direction put some people off, it's very much a broad 90s sitcom visually. But the characters are surprisingly well-written and there's some really tight and funny scripts in the show.
Another idiot saying something massively successful is underrated. It was a major hit that ran for several series. Do you even know what underrated means? Try saying something original.
Comment who your favourite Brittas Empire character is!
Laura in her navy blue Spandex cycling shorts was great
Mine has to be Carol and her take on parenting.
Besides Gordon himself I would say Colin.
Chris Barrie is a nice chap! I met him at Cardiff Comic Con for a photo with him and I did his naaah laugh which he reciprocated! 😂😂
This is even funnier now than it was back then... It's usually the other way around.
As someone who is a recent fan of the show, that is good to hear!
There will NEVER be great BBC comedies ever like this again as they are too PC now.

Really enjoyed reading your comment. The good hearted bewildered fools, especially Colin, are usually my favourite as well!
For 'Allo 'Allo, I would have said Leclerc was the character of whom you speak.
I love Chirs Barrie. I wish he had done more comedy. The cast had a great virtual reunion during CoVID lockdown. I enjoyed seeing them again.
He’s fantastic, a great actor, and very funny all round. He’s a brilliant impressionist aswell, look on RUclips for “Chris Barrie” impressions
One of the best comedies ever made. Bar none. Used to howl at Brittas empire when it used to be on the BBC 😂
Excellent!
I was hoping someone would do a death count video.
One of the darkest and funniest sitcoms.
This incident had to have resulted in some deaths ruclips.net/video/_yrsHilYTU4/видео.html

@@turdole Oh yeah! ur right. They thought they'd had a mass religious experience. Like people shaking at a ministry.
My favourite actual sitcom ever. It's close. And Red Dwarf itself is high up there in my top 10 fosho. But I can marathon this monthly and still laugh at every comedy gem in it.
Awesome taste, big red dwarf fan too!
Do you have a favourite character from Brittas?
@@turdole Definitely Julia St.John as Laura. But of course besides that it's Colin all the way.

I used to love watching that show but really fancied Carol. She was so sexy but in an understated way.
The series was filmed in Hampshire. I made many of the signs for the TV company
I've got this on DVD,unbelievably funny still, no effing and jeffing, just well written, and brilliant timing.
Absolutely agreed. Thank you for commenting!

Brilliant series. Thank you.
My pleasure!
As a child I had nightmares about the poor bastard in the ventilation shaft.
Oh man I don’t blame you, such a dark ending for the guy!
Loved this show back when it originally aired
I watched the entire series during Christmas break and could not stop laughing to tears.
One of the best comedies of all time.. Totally hilarious 😂
I used to like The Brittas Empire but it's been a long time since I watched it. Forgot about all those deaths! Good, daft fun.
Isn’t it just! 🙂
I also had forgotten about all the deaths.
Now this was superb comedy, remember watching it back then, now TV is full of shit
Brilliant TV shame they don’t air this again.
I saw it recently on a TV channel not sure but it could of been Forces TV.
Dan Ben It’s actually just started airing on Drama UK 👍

Chris Barrie is in Red Dwarf as the Hollogram
Love Rimmer

Marvellous carol marvellous
Don’t forget the smile!
“You see………….. I have a dreammm”😁😂😂
Yes, because what you need to have a _truly_ great sitcom is mass casualties.
Undoubtedly
This was brilliant
I believe that the location set for Brittas Empire was Ringwood leisure centre? Can anyone confirm.
Correct!
Love this program
Great stuff
Imagine them trying to get away with this sort of thing today
Most be the most deaths in any BBC sitcom! never realised.
i often wondered who inspired the songwriters to write the 'Stupid Deaths' theme song? 🤣🤣
I watched this back in the day because of Chris Barrie hot off of Red Dwarf, but I never knew it was THIS much of a BLACK COMEDY!
Oh yeah it was definitely dark at times!
I grew up in the 90s. I remember seeing some of it on Sunday afternoons BBC1 I think.
This show was darker than I remember
Got the box set for Xmas.
An excellent Xmas gift!
Thanks for this. Loved it when it was on but don't see clips or mention of it much now. Had a thing for Harriet Thorpe too 😋
It was absolutely my pleasure! Very happy to post Brittas content, indeed you don’t see much clips about often

so...Gordon Brittas came back as a hard light hologram?
(Spoiler)
More like a cyborg really, with his bones reconstructed!
Suprised you didn't include Roger Fergusson and the snake from Series 7 Episode 7.
I probably assumed Roger Fergusson fainted after seeing the snake, but watching it again I think you’re right!
I had such a crush on Russell Porter. I wonder what happened to him after TBE ended?
He is a lovely character. Shame it seems that Tim was only one of his few acting roles
@@turdole Shame. I remember seeing him in an episode of Rumpole, but that's all. Tough place, the showbiz world.
superb
This is hilarious
Superb series . Very underrated
100% agreed
Another idiot saying something massively successful is underrated. It was a major hit that ran for several series. Do you even know what underrated means? Try saying something original.
This was a brilliantly funny show.
This was the point where it was decided it was more important for sitcoms to be 'dark' - ie nasty and unpleasant - rather than funny.
Fatality!
Classic comedy. 👍👍
Bloody hilarious !!!
Damn dark
Yup it’s brutal
Jill St John and pipa Hayward good looking girls ,
I fancied Laura
Worst show ever
Fair enough
Why are you watching Yotube videos about it then? Lolll
Abysmally unfunny show.
It’s not everyone’s cup of tea I suppose
Lol why are you watching it then
@@emmahealy4863 Morbid curiosity mostly.
