Welcome to Amity Tracks. This is a channel where we discuss a wide range of music related topics. The focus will be on music from the 1960’s through the 1990’s, but not exclusively. Classic rock, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, jazz, blues, folk, country, soul…all genres are fair game. From time to time we may dabble in other popular culture, such as film, history or sports. But music is primarily what we do here. The focus is on the music and the artists. We hope to encourage an open and dynamic community with fun and informative discussions not only in the videos, but also in the comments section. Please note that, while disagreement and discussion is welcome, no personal attacks or out of bounds comments will be tolerated. We want to be a part of the positive larger vinyl community and other like-minded, music focused communities.

Like you, I became a fan during the Arista years, saw them live every time they came to town and was never disappointed, and I will defend to my death this period against any snobbish Kinks fan who says otherwise. I love most of their mature albums from the 60s and early 70s, but Sleepwalker remains my favorite album by them (although Kink Kronikles might be the one I played the most!). Can't wait to see where it ends up on your list.

Good discussion. The Kinks were the band that got me into music. Someone at school brought in One for the Road and I got a copy some months later and that was it. I spend the following years hunting these records down everywhere we went. They are still in my top 5 artists of all time though I don't listen to them as much in recent years, probably because I overplayed them.

I love the Soap Opera record and I'm pretty sure you turned me on to it in an earlier video...

Kinks week, yes! So many different periods. I think my intro was "Come Dancing," although I already knew two of their tunes from the Van Halen covers. The one that kicked everything open for me was the compilation album The Kink Kronikles. From the opening song of "Victoria," I was in.

That one had an impact on a lot of people. That was one of the earlier Kinks records I owned as well. I'm going to talk about that comp in the third video.

Wow, never seen Soap Opera that high on a list, but I really like it as well.

@@amitytracks I could live without the spoken bits and I couldn't care less about the actual "concept" but I really enjoy the songwriting. Lots of hooks. For me, it's the dark horse in their repertoire.

Im thoroughly enjoying this ranking! I'm not familiar with a good portion of their catalog so I'll drop my top 10 in your next installment of ranking the Kinks! I find that I'm conditioned to pronounce it Davees over Davis.

Thanks! I look forward to seeing your picks. I know, it took me awhile on the pronunciation too. I think we Americans speak English better than the English do anyway.

    Soap Opera is unfairly underrated.

Phobia is not a bad album- though yeah too long. I would say did ya, hatred (a duet) and scattered (as you acknowledged) were all very good kinks songs. I would say probably at least 3 other songs I like so- not bad but I’d not purchased until maybe last year so was leaving my old favorite band for dead there. But terrible album - nah- just not one of their better ones. I’d possibly put word of mouth here or even one of the preservation albums.

Word of mouth to me is a bad kinks album. We’re not for do it again. I would find it hard to redeem this record. Living on a thin line I know everyone loves. I absolutely hate that song. And Dave song perfect strangers is 1000 times better than living on a thin line. And of course he’s written better songs than that people way back to death of a clown, etc..

Word of mouth to me is a bad kinks album. We’re not for do it again. I would find it hard to redeem this record. Living on a thin line I know everyone loves. I absolutely hate that song. And Dave song perfect strangers is 1000 times better than living on a thin line. And of course he’s written better songs than that people way back to death of a clown, etc.. oh yeah, so I looked at the track listing and another two very good songs still searching a really great song I think and only a dream a very good song. And in addition to those two, there’s at least one or two very good rockers I think, possibly written by Dave. I think the title track is decent and there’s one other rocker that I think is very good. So I think in putting phobia as the worst kings album you’ve done it a bit of a disservice there. In fact, honestly soap opera is worse than this record. Word-of-mouth is worse than this record and one of the two preservation act volumes is worse than this one I can never remember which one I like and which one I don’t.
