    What you've noticed as looking like 3D printed stepping on the Bionicle pieces, are actually steps from a rough machined version of the mould that made the piece, which is still injection moulded. 3D printing was not this good at the time, and there are plenty of pictures around of prototypes that were actually 3D printed, where the print lines are much more noticeable. I've got a few rough machined pieces like this myself, which would look 3D printed to most, but they tested some moulds before the final machining pass to smooth out the stepping.
    You can also tell this particularly on Onua's feet, as there are dips in the plastic where it has been pulled into a void within the plastic. If this were a 3D print, those would not be there. This stepping is noticeable on some pieces in magazine photos, and of particular note, the original Darth Vader helmet is seen as the rough machined mould a few times in promotional material of the time the Star Wars sets were new.

    I love that you started creating museum blurbs for some of your sets; looking forward to being able to seeing the sets in person! Maybe adding some interesting facts about why or how you added them to your collection would be fun.
    There are a few Lego ambassadors who have moved their sets into a separate building which gives them more room to build out their cities/towns and display their collection. I expect this is similar to what you would do except your goal is a museum, which I’m definitely looking forward to seeing. I like the idea of having an online portion to it as someone else already mentioned.

    An idea for the comic con packages is to cut out the back and put in on a board. And put all the comic con minifigures on that board in the correspanding place. Obviously it would be quite annying to get the figures from other walls. But at the end you could have part of the museum which showcases all the comic con minifigs next to the plaque. That way its easier (people dont need to go around searching for all comic con minifigs, although you could do that) and it might look nicer together.

    Placards describing highlights of your collection looks very slick. Most people see LEGO as "worlds" like "NInjago" or "Star Wars" or "Friends: or "City" - so separating a LEGO museum by "worlds" make sense. One of the bigger draws for Museums are student field trips hosted by educators, educators would be interested in "Dacta," "Mindstorm," "or "LEGO education." Interactive displays that teach kids something about LEGO or STEM would justify your museum as a valuable school fieldtrip destination. If you have a movie theater at your Museum, then LEGO Cable TV and Movies can help tell the story line behind certain LEGO sets. A toy's storylines is part of allure and interest in the toy so this needs to be showcased in a toy museum - this is why the story behind a LEGO creation was so important in the LEGO Masters game show. When displaying a Matrix Table of LEGO parts/bricks on the wall, it would make LEGO parts referenced by the placard easier to identify if the display matrix had a column and row identify each cell of the matrix or table in the same way as a spread sheet. Most Museums survive by a combination of annual membership fees, admission tickets, movie / event ticket sales, and gift shop retail sales. Retail sales and the marketing require professional skills and networking that would need the LEGO group blessings to work IMHO. There is also the LEGO Therapy for functional Autistic Spectrum Disorder and to teach pre K social and communication skills. IMHO a children's museum does not have to have rare items to work but it does have to be fun and engaging experience. To that end, most museum have a visiting/touring exhibit area that changes every two or four months- to make annual membership fees worth it and to generate visitor/guest - the number of guest a museum has per year justifies its revenue stream to keep the museum economically sustainable. Another economic model you should look at is the MAKER space Workshop business/economic model... A museum could be supported by the revenue stream created by a membership LEGO space workshop (instead of a gym membership).

      Also for the sdcc, nycc excluisives maybe display the figures with the packaging. I know you don't care for packaging but feels lile a dick move throwing them out, also it would probably sudoku the value of your figs.
      If you want to get rid of them maybe looking for people who are missing the packaging for their figure who might want them and sell it to them.

    Lots of folks own the brown komau and white huna. At least 3 of each appeared this past year. There's one guy who has 2 of each (super lucky)

    • @ResidualSelfImage
      @ResidualSelfImage 3 месяца назад

      This is true. The discontinuation of the last Star Wars Death Star set did not rise in price because it was replaced by a newer Star Wars Death Star set. Evaluation of rare Dungeons and Dragon playing cards are made less valuable by re issuing previous "rare" playing card designs.

    Chris, I think your focus on rare and exclusive things is kind of missing the point of LEGO.
    What you have that is special is such an extensive collection of LEGO sets, both current and past. It would be neat to have a museum where you can see comprehensive collections of complete themes from each year, and then maybe have some blurbs about why those themes were special or some historical context.
    But if you go to an Art museum, it's not about which pieces are exclusive or special, it's about displaying and curating things that are compelling to the museum goer. You might find that these arcane oddities are not as special as sets. But I could be wrong.

    Nice, but would you actually be allowed to open a LEGO museum.... i mean LEGO owns the name, and what if they wanted to build a museum of their own. You could of course say they all ready have, with the stuff they already have on display at various LEGO locations.... but still no exactly the same.
    But can anyone open a museum of ones private items and use the name of the products you display? What about copyright/naming right?
    Could i, lets say, open a Nike museum.... would Nike not have a problem with it?
