Tamang is a language, surname as well as an ethnicity within the Nepali community , also known as Lama and are of the Mongolian origins living mostly in Nepal but also in India and many other countries. For an outsider, Nepali might seem like a single ethnicity , but it is in fact a community of different ethnicities, many having their own traditions, culture, rituals and language; ie: Tamang, Sherpa, Limbu, Newar, Gurung etc. But they are all still Nepali as a unit. Kind of similar concept to Indians but not as much diverse.
The gentleman here is of the Tamang ethnicity, (which is broadly Nepali too), but he’s probably from India from what I’ve heard. But anyway most people in Nepal are quite fluent in Hindi too, especially in terms of songs.
