  • ICU ventilator settings were something I used to struggle with. Even keeping the names straight were tough for me sometimes, but I think I finally straightened them out! In this video we take a quick look at Airway Pressure Release Ventilation, more commonly known as APRV. Now this is not the most commonly used ventilation setting, but it has a different way of working, and can sometimes be used with ARDS. We take a look at what this vent setting actually does for the patient, what we dial in and what we get out.

    As a Respiratory Therapist thank you for making this so simple to understand. I work in ICU often and always suggest it for some of my patients who are having a hard time oxygenating. But most mid levels don’t even want to try because they are not familiar

    Hello there, apart from the parameters you have mentioned. Are they any other parameters that must be set such as respiratory rate, and alarm setting?

    What are the normal initial settings for a pediatric patient in this mode?

      Usually you take the Pplat from VC-AC & that’s your starting Phigh. Otherwise, Plow. Thigh & Tlow are pretty much what he explained.
