I was 41 when my last baby came to us (he was number 6), and he was very much wanted (no "oops"!). People thought I was crazy, but they just didn't know how much I wanted one more. I had several miscarriages, and one stillborn daughter, before I got pregnant with him.
I'm 64 now, and still have happy dreams about being pregnant. But my snuggles now come from my grandchildren (10 so far). I feel SO blessed.

I consider dealing with my young adults' life issues as a form of parenting still, just different. It's hard to explain but it includes lots of grown up conversations with bible based advice, and lots of grace ❤❤❤

I’m right there with you! My children are 20,22, 24, 26 and I realized our love and guidance is still needed no matter how old they are. I watch these family videos to remind me of those sweet (yet challenging) days when they were all little. I was like you…meet the anger and frustration with calmness and love and things change for the better quickly. Children naturally want to please and just need direction.

Regarding your miscarriage~ I like to think that when I get to Heaven I will have a child waiting for me. 💜 it’s been 40 years and yet I think about it often. It was not talked about then as it is now. Grateful you can share now a days and receive support from others.
Very smart parenting to not take your kids tantrums personal. I remember that phase and I think you are so wise to look at it like you do and just love on that child with some one on one time. You are in the thick of things right now with so many little personalities developing and trying to meet all of their needs is not for the faint of heart! I’m so proud of you for being the loving parent’s that you are! What a blessing it is to see children not only have loving parents but such loving grandparents! I hope both of your folks are well.

I had a miscarriage about47 years ago and I think it’s something I never forget we had 2 tragedy’s 3 years ago my granddaughter had a baby girl that passed after 30 minutes and then her older sister had a miscarriage. I amso glad they were able to express their feelings

I love that yall get the kids involved in school as soon as they can. In my opinion it sets GREAT boundaries prevents seperation fits and with the triplets the opportunity to develop individuality and their own friendships ❤❤❤ ppl hate on family vlogs but i feel yall do it respectfully well 👍
Not every kids needs to go to preschool. They can develop friendships without going to preschool and I don’t see how it prevents desperations “fits”.

I found out I was pregnant on May 26th. Had my first prenatal appts, and then i had some bleeding mid June so went to the ER. First ultrasound was done there and found out I was pregnant with twins!!! I am 39yrs old, and have a 19yr old daughter. My husband and I have tried for a baby for 13yrs. This pregnancy was a complete surprise and natural. Twins was our actual dream. My bleeding continued and trips to the ER progressed each week, at the end of first trimester ( just about!) Found out the pregnancy was no viable and I was dilated and passing tissue. July 13th I had a D&C and we have been entirely devastated and crushed by the loss. We are about 5wks post surgery of losing the pregnancy so I am waiting for my cycle to return. I feel really traumatized by my experience, but there is a huge hole in me that still wants this baby for us, but scared to go through it again. Sooo sorry to hear about your miscarriage, both of you! Thank you for sharing! Prayers and blessings for baby number 6! 🙏❤

I was pregnant with twins, and I still worked as a non-emergency ambulance driver, and I start to bleed one day and had to go to the hospital and lost one baby but the other one I carried full-term it was both are girls. And as far as the postpartum, it hit me hard especially with the miscarriage so I know what you’re going through what you went through. It took me a long time with family and friends I made it through.

Cara, I’ve been watching your channel when the triplets were babies and on up. You are such a good mom and Derek is a good father. It’s kind of sad to watch them get older because love babies. And Gemma was such a funny little girl and all of the kids are so beautiful. I think your channel is the best on RUclips. Derek makes such good videos. I’m surprised that someone didn’t approach you about making a show for TV. Anyway, hope to see more videos, but I know your hands are full running the kids to all of their activities. Take care. Oh my...It's been almost 2yrs since Ive watched your vlog..I had even forgotten about Asher! The 3 triplets are so big.😊 I didnt intend to stop watching but my health took at left turn out nowhere. I had a massive heart attack and then open heart surgery w/ LVAD placement while trying to be placed on transplant list. Finally placed on transplant list, 6 days later teceived offer from donor. Had transplant but heart immediately rejected, died on table multiple times. Was placed in medical coma because my chest was left open while on heart / lung bypass. 21 days induced coma. I woke to soo many complications the most severe being I could no longer walk or use my right arm. Rehab facility for a month then home rehab. Still so sick and had to go back for 2x chest surgeries to remove all metals from my chest because Im allergic, open chest for 12 weeks w/ wound vac. More rehab. Still fought donor contracted disease for 8mons. And now have CAV, am possible facing another transplant because the donor heart had unknown internal damage...All has affected my memory etc. But I kept telling my husband there's a RUclips channel with kids but I couldnt remember. I found you again today..Prayers for the miscarriage, Ive been there. Through God all things are possible, just give it to him.
I'm so sad that you lost your baby. It's like the greatest disappointment a parent can experience, and it takes a long time to feel normal again. I hope you do have another healthy, full-term pregnancy and baby. You are such good parents.
Watching yalls videos makes me miss Utah so much. I was in a LDR for 2 years and would fly to UT very few months. The mountains, fry sauce, weather and how nice people were will never ever compare to New York😂 tried fry sauce from Walmart in NY and it could never ever compare to UT dry sauce 😂

Don't try for another baby, guys!! You have a lovely family as is! Miscarriages take a toll on a woman physically and both parents emotionally. I had two sons and one miscarriage which eventually led to a hysterectomy.....and emotionally it has stayed with me all these years, and my baby is turning 50 this year! My mom had 6 kiddos and three miscarriages....and each one she lost took a toll on her. For me that was my little girl and always will be. Enjoy those sweet babies that you do have and just remember how blessed you are to have that many healthy sweethearts!! God bless you and yours❤

I went through a missed miscarriage in November, same experience where we saw the heartbeat, and then there wasn’t one… we waited till the baby’s due date to try again. I’m now 11 weeks pregnant with my hopeful rainbow baby 🌈 ❤🙌🏻 🍀🤞🏻🙏🏼❤️✨. I’m so sorry for your experience and I wish you the best ❤️🙏🏼❤️.

I’m sorry to hear about yr loss. I miscarried twins and it was the hardest thing I went through. My miscarriage sounds very similar to yours where my body continued to grow but their heartbeats just stopped at 13 weeks. The pain does lesson when you have the next one. I’ll keep you in my prayers.

Takes a lot of time to “heal”, you never heal from losing a child, born or unborn. You just get to a place where your mind comes to terms and it starts to get easier to cope with. Communication is very important, it doesn’t affect just mom, it’s the whole house feeling the loss as well. God bless you and family!
Every woman ive known whos had a d&c got pregnant within 4 months after having it. It helps in many ways with a fresh new lining before the shedding from a period. Hope you get pregnant again soon and Im sorry for your loss. I know how it feels.

Miscarriage is so hard. I lost a child at 19.5 weeks of gestation. It was so so hard and I prayed to God about the why. I had a 8.5 year old child at the time and my husband was overseas. I learned from this experience that when one door closes, another one opens. I was so so sad until one night in my sleep God revealed that I had a daughter, but she just wasn’t where I expected. She was in China. I met her 18 months later on a cold and winter night with my husband and eldest daughter in northern China. When I met her our eyes locked and even though she just met me she said mama and lifted her arms to be picked up. I knew then on that day that this was my daughter forever. She was only 10 months. Twenty years later, my daughter is fabulous and we are still so bonded. She is a strong and compassionate young woman.❤ I went on to adopt another daughter in China 4 years later. They are the lives of my life, as is my eldest.❤ children are the best.❤

sorry for your loss. I like many others had this happen, a missed miscarriage is what they called it. but then almost a yr later we got preggos with our triplets. thats when I found your chan. I was happy you guys gave more details about triplets then some other chans. but love you guys!!

I’m so sorry Darik, Cara and kids. I had my 4th baby a couple weeks before my 30th birthday. I honestly thought I was done, bc like u said, u have to stop at some point. When #4 started Middle School, which is 11 years old, I decided that I wanted to have another baby. Me & my husband had our 5th baby at 41 & 50. We weren’t too careful after we had our 5th baby bc there was such a huge age gap between the first 4 kids & baby #5. I did get pregnant 14 months later and I had a molar pregnancy. I ended up having to have an emergency hysterectomy. Now I know that there will definitely not b anymore babies for me. What got me through everything, was knowing that it was God’s will and it was all totally out of my control. My babies r 24,22,19,16 & 4. My 4 year old loves having older siblings and it’s like my 4 year old has 3 mothers instead of just having me. Don’t put limits on yourselves. As a couple, throughout the years y’all will grow & change and what u didn’t want before for your future, y’all will change your minds and vice versa. Love y’all Chatwins!!!
I had the same happen and had to have a DNC. We had big infertility issues. Our consultant told us not to wait as, how do I say this nicely, like new. We didn't wait and ended up with a beautiful daughter. Just a thought, and you do whats right for your family. Prayers are with you.

I have come to realise that there isn’t a “too young” or “too old” for babies, not really. Each person is individual. I know mamas who are so young and wonderful mothers, and mamas who waited til much later and are also wonderful mothers. I have five (snap, Cara!), four beautiful girls and one little boy, but all singletons - so I had my first at 28, and my youngest I had eleven months ago when I was 41. I felt just the same pregnant at 42 as I did at 28, and if I tell the truth - I am not done. I know some people think I am crazy or stupid to want more babies in my forties, but I am fitter and healthier than I was twenty years ago.
I know I am one of those mamas who will never be “done”. I know that if I persuade hubby to go for number 6, that will be our last baby - but I also know I will cry sorrowful tears at some point to realise I won’t have another. Some women are never done, others just know - one of my sisters was done at two, my other has four but would have had more…. Sure, my teenager has very different needs to my babas, and it’s tough to match it all up (I home school), but I don’t mind. It’s worth it. Blessings to your beautiful family.
