- As musicians we're constantly hearing about how unstable a career in music is. Is that truth or perception? Let's use a very simple illustration to challenge that assumption.

After he got fired from his job he turned into Unstable Stan 🤣
Yup.
If you want to make and play your own original music, it will be very unstable. Only people living good from music are session and band players for major recording artists.
I'm literally making good money tomorrow night playing a concert of mine and 4 other musicians original music. Gotta get out of the mind set of doing only one thing. I play my original music, and other people's music, and other stuff too. Add it all together and that's a stable living.
@paulegavin It's funny you mention that. I have been doing sync tv/film music licensing for the past 5 years simply because when I did live gigs with a band, we always got paid way more to do cover songs. All original stuff was for free. Glad you getting paid. I'm happy where I'm at and don't desire to play live that much these days. I end up losing money due to travel and personal expenses because most gigs are out of town.
@@elonblake850 Interesting! I'm digging into the sync licensing world and currently write for two publishers myself. I'm not qualified to talk about it on YT yet, but gimme a few more years 👍🏾
Thank you. This conversation needs to be brought up more often. 👏✊
Thank you so much.

You’re videos are so well produced my man! I’m surprised you don’t get more views!
Thank you, certainly feel free to share them if you feel more should see them. Thank you!
@@paulegavin Definitely! I think my girlfriend would benefit from seeing this.
We are both senior music majors at a university, and she has been stressing recently about the kind of life she will be living, in terms of finances, once she graduates. So I think your perspective might give her a bit of calm as she finishes her senior year.
@@noahj008 yeah, the key is to have your money come in from several reliable places. The people I see struggling the most are people who rely exclusively on public performance. You need some other things coming in too. Btw, if you're seniors, if you're not already, you should already be out there making connections in the music community, and the community at large. Don't wait until graduation. Many blessings 🙏🏾
@@paulegavin thank you for the advice my man
I feeeeeeeel like Steve might be a Paul in disguise
