    The comparison with Rolex was especially apt. Pricing luxury goods relies on the willingness of purchasers to swallow the desirability/ rarity/ special access puff that marketers happily provide. The question of how to lead the high end customer to a price point beyond "custom shop" is always interesting and PRS, Music Man and now Lowden clearly like the "private stock" of wood pitch. Gibson set up the Tom Murphy Lab and Fender, likewise, used the star artisan approach with various builders and pickup winders. It's all good fun as long as no one takes it seriously.

      There's a video where the Interviewer is at the factory workshop and in interviewing the son he explains that the top in front of him he has been working on (Master series guitar) for a week.
      That's an awful lot of time for just the top and in a video George Lowden says back in the day he calculated Martin takes 12.5 man hours to make a guitar which shocked him as it was taking him 90 man hours make a guitar.
      But I'm old that kind of money is shocking.We paid that for a second hand Steinway B Piano at Steinway Hall in New York City in 1987 which took us years to pay off with help of parents.And a new one was just a little more than the second hand one.This inflation is a real scourge.
      Cheers

    It's expensive because the woods used are very high quality and rare.
    It has unique bracing, which creates harmonics and overtones that not many guitars currently made can reproduce.
    It also has the famous 5 piece neck which is so stiff, you can tune the strings up or down by a LOT, and the guitar is stable.
    My cheap ass 32se is the bargain basement version, but it still sounds amazing.
    I don't think the mic used for recording this, and the youtube algorythm which compresses the audio, really does this guitar justice.

    This guitar is truly amazing! I actually own the guitar and I play it every day. I've been a Lowden player for years and there is a big difference between the regular models and this one. Is it actually worth the actual money? That's up to the player to me it is worth it to have such a unique guitar. I've never played a Koa guitar that has this balanced of a tone including the low end. I think Lowden makes great guitars at all price levels. Cheers!

    I would like to add that the high end is the best part of the guitar. I have no idea why it recorded quite shrill on those sound clips. Actually I asked about that before I bought it and they assured me it didn’t sound that way. They were right the high end is just perfect. Very articulate but not shrill at all. The guys at Peach guitar are amazing. O have many high end guitars and this Lowden hangs with all of them. Especially for fingerstyle.

      Yes there are there's Robin Boucher of Boucher and h o z e n who was originally m a e s t r o, they make guitars with the same or better quality with as good of or better woods since Robin Boucher is a wood dealer and keeps all his own Master grade Adirondack for himself and he has a couple of KOA g u i t a r s, and even completely terrified Master grade Maple that would blow this one away and they are sub 10000. You are right this guitar is not worth $20,000 to any musician or average 20.00 is unnecessary and greedy, every hosen that is in the $10,000 range is that because those are built entirely buy him only and they got I guarantee they are a better guitar t h a n this

  • @RByrne
    @RByrne 2 года назад +8

    Yeah, it's nice, but tbh I don't see $20K here. Using the highest quality materials doesn't increase the value quite that much, unless you're using precious metals, diamonds, wood from the Titanic etc..
    But if it's limited to a few, then they'll charge what they want, and surely some people will pay it.

    • @FourT6and22
      @FourT6and22 2 года назад +1

      I agree. Koa body on this one isn't any more expensive than on a regular production model. Same with redwood top. Same neck. Same materals all around. Sure... you get the abalone inlays, but that's not that expensive. I guess you're paying for George Lowden's hands making the guitar, the branding of the "master series" , and marketing. Nice guitars though. But definitely not $20,000,

      As with watches Bling isn’t an indication of quality. This is a quality instrument hand built by a master maker. If you compare it to high end violins then £20k is actually good value. It’s the combination of woods used and the masters time spent on the instrument that you’re paying for. Mostly though the ears don’t lie. That thing is a special instrument. Just listen to the clarity and dynamic range. It’s a gorgeous instrument.

    • @RByrne
      @RByrne 2 года назад +2

      @@castleofsong9620 i didnt say it was an indication of quality, I said it doesnt make it much more valuable. Theyve focused on wood selection used in this video. It matters who made it, how its made, and the finished product. Comparing it to a violin makes little sense. Its a different market, and supply and demand will always determine pricing. There are simiar guitars, masterbuilt limited runs, that go for less than half.

      I have been building cabinets and furniture for 48 years.
      To answer your question, satin and rubbed-effect finishes are not inherently better or anything that could be considered tangible.
      It all boils down to aesthetics. The majority of people just prefer a less glossy look in furniture and cabinets. A super high gloss is associated with tacky, cheap furniture.
      That is just how it has always been. The majority aesthetic opinion drives the industries. And as prices go up the glossy finishes go down.
      Personally, I prefer the warm and earthy look of satin, low -- medium sheen wood finishes. But I have several satin finished guitars and glossy finished guitars that I think are all beautiful.

    Honestly, didn't really like the sound of the guitar. A little too bright and jangly for me. The Koa is better than the Koa on high end Taylors though.
    I agree that I don't see 20k in value. Not only in materials but also that it isn't a complete master built. Seems more compatible to custom shop since several different people touch it.
