The body is a Toyota that's why it's small
It’s cool that it’s cheaper but it’s the same crap that we could’ve bought a month ago for $65 with the deadbolt. A throw away body, electronics etc. It’s crazy how great the scx24 is (with mods) but how terrible it is out of the box. Ascent18 is the best out of the box for any beginner imo. It’s a bit larger but we all stretch and widen these things anyway. Great vid as always. The only channel I’ll watch for these new releases 🤘🏼
Do you ever stop crying?
@@wvlfkvnt haha! I will when they release something better. I love the scx24 because of the aftermarket but axial should be doing more at this point. Y’all will keep buying the crap though so why would they put any effort into it?
@@2fmrc yep, people keep buying so they'll keep selling! Fine by me, saves me money, lol.
@@2fmrcSo right!
At $25 more I feel the new C10 is a better value, you get the oil shocks, sweet licensed body, and led lights. That said, all the SCX24 seem overpriced compared to the FMS 24s, the Ascent, and off brand Traxxas.
I applaud axial for continuing to support an easy and economical entry into the hobby. In the past, companies driven by greed, have driven the accessory makers out by supplying full option cars. The beauty of the hobby is in the personalization....good jab!
Traxxas mini is 5x better out of the box lol. Great electronics ,geometry , and suspension..axial crawlers (besides the pro) are absolute garbage
@gumpycognac4505 yeah, you missed the point but whatever...
@@davidpease3158 what 😂🥴
I dig it. I don't mind the body at all. With some tires and weighted wheels and injora 40mm big bore oil shocks this thing could probably do Hell's gate. This would be perfect for my niece and nephew so they don't thrash my expensive builds. Also occurs to me this is the perfect sacrificial truck to build the big dually that Axel loves.
Yeah put a mofo RC torque beast 3.0 in it and it should plenty good power wise
2:36 I don’t think we were “spoiled” with almost every recent release having oil shocks, I think they’re a necessary component to a hobby grade truck. Friction dampers make any truck, no matter how nice it looks, look like a toy.
True. The hobby has evolved and we have benefitted as a result
of all the video and time i have been watching your content this mini base camp is the only straight out of the box i have ever seen take on your indoor track.. this looks to be cheap made but yet it has performance compared to the otherr scx24.. great content!!
I agree. I see a lot of people knocking axial (I have no experience with them) on thenquality of their parts and what not, but this thing really impressed on the out of box performance.
Just bought one today, my first time RC crawling. The only thing that was holding me back from the hobby was cost of entry. I’m in the game baby
Welcome to the dark side!
Love hacing a cheaper option. I feel youre correct, they missed the mark on the price. Should be like $69-79. Then I might buy two or the set of three haha.
Great to use when sharing with friends or family who aren't into the hobby.
Great video as always!I like how it looks, I like the price point however axial uses fully licensed items to distract from everything else. Basically they just told us that all the models before they started putting on oil filled shocks could have been at the sub $100 price point.
If you plan on no mods and just want it to have fun or for your kids. Great deal but even then those shocks aren’t great.
If it is indeed a blank canvas for a project then don’t put anything licensed on it because it’s going to be replaced anyways.
I still feel it’s a tad high for a budget build.New servo, wheels and tires, oil filled shocks and some brass will put this over $200.Great little rc though to leave stock and let the kids have at it.
lol. redcat already has a better performing ascent 18 for $20 more. they should have made this a kit for the folks that like doing their own stuff. minus $20-30 for electronics this could be a really good selling platform at $60- $75.
@@LeBlanc10 yep! Totally agree! People say these rtrs are for the noobs in the hobby and I get that but shouldn’t we give the noobs some stuff they won’t have to replace immediately? I feel like the ascent does that better than any other micro atm.
I agree, make it a 1/24 scale kit.
@@2fmrc definitely. I've got the ascent still. The only upgrade I've felt like I had to do was the center driveshafts.
@@RCSHENANIGANS91 speaking fo scx24 kits, they should make a trophy truck kit or at a least independent front suspention kit.
Bought one on impulse from my LHS. Been into TRX4Ms, and 10th scale stuff for a while, but this little thing is a ton of fun
They should've dropped a 75$ scx24 builders kit instead. Include wheels and tires and an un painted body but no electronics. Then release an scx24 basecamp fully kitted out for like 120 or something 🤘🍻🤘
No reason to include wheels and tires in a builders kit. They are the first things changed.
@jasonbecker4997 true, i was just tryna add a little extra value to the kit. Even without wheels and tires 75$ is probly still a good price 🤘y'all have a badass day🤘🍻🤘
@@jasonbecker4997 Nor a servo, and they couldn't include their axles without including their very weak motor. No a builders kit would just accentuate the inferiority of scx24 parts and they wouldn't want that, or it would cost much more than their RTRs and have ALL non Axial parts. Anyway for builders they already sell nothing but builders kits.
@@shockman8014 I’m definitely with you. There’s not much for decent stock parts on it really. All that’s left of my last rtr is the skid and probably a few screws.
A little while back when I saw the deadbolt for $60 I thought about it for a second, but I could probably build a stock deadbolt out of my parts drawer…
About to get three, one for each of my kids, and getting some injora shocks and brushless motor to have them good to go. Once we break stuff we will replace plastic with metal
Honestly, I think a nice video for the future would be to show how to build a SCX24 from good value non-throw away 3rd party parts and then just slap an axial body on it.
They sell good Kits in the 1:10 world. Why not Selling good cheap Builder Kits for the 1:24. If u change what u have to change as we always do, you pay 99 Dollar for the Frame and the Links. Thats not Cheap. I made a 1:18 Build from scratch and in the End it was Equal to Cheaper if i had bought a TRX4m and tuning it. But hey for all these Kids out there who dont have a Dad whos into the Hobby, i think its a great Buy! Thank you for the Review.
@@Braindog I'd be shopping frame and links too. 1/18 build from scratch cheaper than RTR? I don't believe you.
@@shockman8014 i mean equal/cheaper instead of buying rtr plus the upgrades. Depends on how much u upgrade.
I really like that color blue. Can the hitch for the axial flat bed trailer fit in the rear bumper?
been binging all your videos. just got 2 scx24s for 180 with slight mods. got tires otw and going to my local shop to crawl on their trail.
Now Traxxas needs to drop the Sport Body for the minis. Your move Traxxas.
Traxxas is more about charging more for less. They might give you less but they'd charge the same.
@@boduke9428 they sell bodies separately. I'm not buying another rig. F-That. I only need one rig, can never have too many body options.
I might just go this route seeing how I can't leave anything alone and will replace everything anyways starting with the shocks the day I get one,i already have a set of wheels and tires all mounted and ready to go that will look sick on it
Great review!!! I love this little truck. I have all the other crawlers they make and I just pre ordered this one in blue. Can’t wait for your budget build on it.
Let’s see the budget build for this guy! Great review video as always!
Dammit!!! just when I thought I was done with SCX24s as I just finished my third build!!!! I def need this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like it I just ordered the enduro 1/24 scale haven't gotten to me yet now I want this one you could buy alot more parts for it anyway
Love your videos… getting deeper and deeper into the scx24. Very informative.
But i don‘t get the benefit of this car here in Austria. I got the jeep wrangler with new esc and oil shocks etc for 99.- €, and the new base camp ( which i thought is cheaper) cost around 120 .- €.
Thanks for your videos, and the great work!
Greetings from Austria 🤙🤙
Does this esc have a ch2 for an upgrade esc? Like the injora mb100.
sweet review. Modding ours now so we can see what this new body can do. Video coming soon.
For $99, the Redcat Adcent 18 is much better, and you have more. I think Axail fails in this one by huge. Compared to other mini crawlers, this one has a huge gap to be considered a competitor again, and others minis
The $99 for the ascent18 was an introduction sale, but for $120 I think the ascent18 is a better option.
Personally I like it and it has good potential. I agree it’s a little too expensive and would have been better with oil shocks but you can upgrade. It is a little too expensive but then I feel the scx24 range is over priced.
My charger got burnt out for my scx24 so it's a decoration right now 😭 and also I ordered some 43mm db shocks from injora for my bronco
This would be a great introduction to a twin I-beam kit/rtr rig. Its time to broaden the horizon for the 24 platform fellas.
Honestly would have given this rig a look before purchasing the Ascent 18 (I got a pink one, lol), but it still has the same SLT receiver and not something compatible with my DX5C. That's my main complaint with my Typhon Grom. Looks like it could be fun though.
I like it! I have the 1/10 scale so of course I needed the SCX24 version!
Do you think the basecamp or deadbolt is better value?
just picked up a pink one of these for my gf and the pink is really nice
Light weight did that truck well. Improve the tires and dampen the bouncing and it will be a crawling warrior. Great driving BTW. I think it looks more like a Tacoma than a Dodge, thus the smaller size than the C10. I'm eager to see your budget build. PS - I'm also eager to see your next evolution of the indoor course. Curious what you would do differently now that you've spent time with the current indoor course. I think your features are spot on for testing these little trucks. Overcoming the wear of regular use and making it easier to maintain seems to be the next challenge..
I like it the body is exactly like my 2008 tacoma access cab I wish axial would make the trail honcho in the scx24
These rigs are addictive! That said, this is a case of the Pusher giving you a little taste to get you hooked, And then one becomes, two, then three... etc. A wise pre-holiday marketing ploy. So do you get this, or the Losi Mini-B for your hundred bucks? Good one Axial, well played.
Micro B all day long
I'd go with the Losi. Those are cool as hell!
Hey Adam so I was going to buy the bigger brother of this being the 110 for 280 but I wanted you to review it for me so I know if it's worth it or not also just to see how it performs stock 😊 and then maybe like do a build series on it what could it be possible if you review the 110 please 🥺🤙
Still love my B-17 betty
I wish Traxxas made a sport body for the trx4m.
Can I get to see a lot of people buying it just for the body and the axles and transmission to run on a C1 that's about it but anymore you know you build them from the ground up you don't even buy a ready to run I guess when people first get in they might but that's about it cuz that's how I started the Bronco and from there I haven't bought are you ready to run since
Impressive! What’s with the outrunner whine though
Injora has a new tire, obsidian 64mm S5 compound. Looks like black labels. I'm waiting on ya lol
Is there any difference between this and the Deadbolt? I know the wheelbase isn’t the same, but beyond that, it’s just a different body, right? Same shocks, same electronics, same chassis, glued tires. It seems like they both serve the exact same purpose. I do like the option of the Basecamp body, but it seems odd they waited so long to release this, since the body has been in use with the scx10 for so long.
Wheelbase is the only difference. And this gets the new Spektrum electronics
It seems really silly to put the unlicensed body on it and then add all the other licensed stuff 😂
Also, considering this is the same price as the preorder of the Ascent 18 was 😂😂😂.
What would you say is the best motor for a scx24 rig made for towing or pulling a trailer?
I would go brushless for that. Furitek unity would be my suggestion.
@@CapeCrawlers I've been subscribed to your channel for a long time and been using your advice on making some crazy builds. I have over 10 builds but most have brushless systems in them, I was wondering if you knew any good brushed motors that would pull good and not bind up too much if any. I have a 6x6 I'm looking to get a stronger brushed motor for and a van I custom built from a model kit. On a side note has axle taken over the scx24 base camp yet or is he stuck on another rig? , keep the builds coming and love the channel.
Not a fan of velcro body attachments! Lol hate them in comp! Another great video Adam! Thanks for sharing brother!
I still want the 10th scale basecamp
Me too
Will you do the $100 budget build on this?
That is put cool . Do a budget build please . Then do a little more call it the sleeper build so when people see it they think toy grade and it comes out and crushes it. That would be fun.
For those that, like the OP, don't understand what understeer is... It only happens when you're at speed. The "understeer" thats called out in these vids is 100% not understeer, it's the front end floating. Which DOES NOT happen when you're at speed.
I understand that understeer is when the vehicle turns less than the steering angle requested. The vehicle loses traction, causing the vehicle to under rotate and push wide through a turn. Regardless of speed.
I'd still vanture to say black friday month long sale like last year horizon will have a few scx24's priced at 99 or right at it. Of course then the basecamp may be priced at 79'ish. For 20 bucks I'd probably go with the scx24. Of course it depends what ya wanna do with it.
"When in doubt throttle out" is an FPV term for when you lose video signal behind on obstruction and you need to raise yourself above it to regain line of sight, this is the first time ive heard it used on a surface model lol
We say that driving full size crawlers too 😂
That term precedes the existence of fpv cameras.
1:1 scale dirt bikes use the term, too.
Pour 30 grams of bb,s in the front tires and 10 in the rear. Costs a few cents with massive improvements. Pew pew.
is there any reason why you haven't reviewed the new hobbywing brushless motor yet?
I really wish it was the honcho style, cab with a cage, but still looks great.
@@MTrefry2 yup, an scx24 honcho would kick ass 🤘🍻🤘
Oh jeez man, I'd have paid the extra for the oil shocks. Though I guess the after-market is full of options.
You should make a video Where you upgrade it like you do with the other cars I would love to see some good upgrades on it so I can buy 1 for myself and put them on I've been wanting to upgrade my RC cars but it's too expensive I think if I can do this RC car it would be in my budget Range Thank you for reading this and please consider making a video about it
What are the actual differences between this Base Camp and the more expensive version(s)?
oil filled shocks, LED lights, and branded bodies.
I'm getting the white one...👍🏼💯🔥
Shorter wheelbase compared to the Blue Gladiator Probably gives it the "smaller" look. That was my first impression.
I understand the cheap offers, I do..
But honestly I rather save and buy a quantity item or just build it part by part.
What would make money is a Vanquish 1/24 Kit Aluminum and standard.
They would sell like crazy..
Please do a Basecamp budget build vs Basecamp expensive build.
Anyone else see that proline (on axials site) just put up a 24th scale SR5 Toyota Hilux body? Cool.
I think if axial made an scx24 pro, factory brushless separate reciever and factory beadlocks it would be a real killer if they could keep the price down . They could even use the same chassis and all these killer bodies
You should do a budget build on it
I plan to. Perfect rig for it
Now, you need build this for a flex machine 😁
99 bucks?? Those are worth 200 in Australia as a pre order for xmas.... 😂
Correct me if I'm wrong. It appears the Axial scx24 chassis doesn't have a two speed gearbox like the FMS fcx24m chassis has.. The two speed gearbox makes the fcx24m a rock crawling beast.
Not gonna lie, I kinda missed the friction shocks. I think it looks better if you’re filming scale footage.
They should make a 1/24 wraith version or bomber
F, now just got a price drop alert on the anniversary edition fms fcx24 brushless like a damn month after I bought mine. It’s now at 150$ was 199 😵💫
Can you oil fill the stock shocks?
No you cannot, not with these units
@@CapeCrawlers maybe thought if they included some o rings like the k5 blazer you could, deciding between this or the Lexus, the Lexus has some awesome accessories
Associated makes a green shock slime. Take the cap off the shock and put a little dab of that in and it helps a lot. Done it with all the friction shocks I’ve used.
@@jasonbecker4997 thanks man!
The PERFECT Price!!
Perfect price ? All plastic plus chitty electeonics.
@@Liverpoolbest1 Yes! Amazing deal for all you get
It’s a Blank Canvas to start your Upgrades..
You’re supposed to customize, not the company
@@TestDriverRC Then tell me why old versions are better? For example i bought JEEP JLU V2 (with better electronics) 6 month ago and i paid 110$
@@Liverpoolbest1 We all have opinions on which is better. But the updated spektrum electrics are a improvement from the previous version with the SLT2 Transmitter
ugh they need to make an scx18 allready
big dislike
scx24s are awful out-of-the-box in this market. for 20% more (which is not a lot considering the base price) you get the FCX24M which is several orders of magnitude more capable
and if you're going 'buh buh the aftermarket'... 1) most of the aftermarket is compatible with the fcx24m, or 2) just build it from scratch, as there's nothing salvageable on this pathetic toy. electronics, gears, chassis, shocks are all meant for the bin on day 1
Miss the blue gladaitor
I've only watched about 30 seconds of the video so far but I can tell you that this is absolutely not the best of value in mini Crawlers. The ascent 18 kick the crap out of this in every single way because axial refuses to put any effort into their new releases other than another body, same total garbage Servo and electronics that we have had for years with no innovation to the chassis. Also it looks like it has body rub on the tires almost just sitting there with the front wheels turned
Axial used to be the top of the game but have fallen so far behind the last couple years. I have 14 RC’s, 2 are axial and never my first pick when I go run.
@Slaters_RC I still love the 10th scale stuff but the scx24 is pathetic compared to the competition now and I own 10 of them
@@SteadfastRC right they need to come out with a scx pro mini 1/18 scale. Carbon chassis, metal links, angle skid, forward motor setup, aluminum shocks. Even a scaled down pro body. Could make it a kit or rtr with through away electronics.
@@Slaters_RC If they did it would still have the AS1 servo I bet. They have to be being blackmailed or mafia manhandled to use the weakest motor and servo in existence.
13:29 Seizure shocks! Those should be called earthquake shocks not "friction dampened"
I like it. Shocks are cheap. To me it looks Tacoma-ish, at least from the sides. Agree from the front that it looks like a Ram.
Whaa. No way. Thats badass but still the same ol same ol but i totally understand why they did it the way they did. I think I would have paid a lil bit more for the oil shocks forsure.
As other ppl said, just spend 20 bucks more and get an Ascent :D
Go to the right at the top of hells gate and it will make it
Can you make a scx Gx470 Build?
Yes I am thinking an IFS build to make it more scale
Great pla e to start
Came from do you rc
At least give me a transmitter I can stand up lol. Ae6 combo also had low medium and high speed on the transmitter.
Seems like this is about where axial was with the C-10 and deadbolt releases years ago. Bummer Maybe this should have been sold as a kit?
With a clear lexan body
Toyota Tacoma not ram trx. Looks fun
They could have made the price lower for all the things they took off. I feel like they are still trying to make too much of a profit margin on an entry level vehicle.
Not really the least expensive. Same price as the Deadbolt.
Good 👍
Katana at $99 wit h lizard pro and brushless venom is a much better deal.
Axial is absolutely killing it!
I still have yhe 2/24 barricade it sucks
Nice! Some greas in the chocks (or oil chocks), maybe brass nuckels or something like that in front, little havyer wheels and god tyre will be a cheap potent crawler.
Do the shocks leak on this little one like they do on its big brother?? Brand new, straight out of the box?? Will Axial's customer service ignore your warranty service calls if you buy this one, just like when you buy its big brother?? I suggest you spend your cash ELSEWHERE, Axial will take it and RUN.
Ram TRX?? That’s a Tacoma my guy 😂😂
Yes, wishful thinking on my part probably
Don’t upgrade. It makes a good reference point to compare with other cars.
I hope that‘s just a sign that they‘re trying to squeeze the last amount of money out of the platform, which is then followed by a completely new lineup (scx18‘s ???) or even better, something with portal axles, brushless systems or two-speed transmissions. There isn‘t a reason to buy this when you can get a „real“ scx24 or other mini-crawlers for 20$ more or even the same money when there‘s a sale. And people who want to get into building stuff should just start from scratch, much better and cheaper.
Having bought a Jeep about 3 years ago, I was in no position to start from scratch. Now I would have zero issues, but as a newb to hobby grade stuff, it was too overwhelming. The majority of my usage is with people who haven't driven any RC vehicle at all. Everything stock is fine and cost effective if you wait for a sale as I have with my #2 and #3 units. 🙂 Looking forward to all the BF/Xmas sales to mod out my Deadbolt.
this is a great video
love the vid
