Hi Emmie, I discovered your channel about a month ago. I don’t know which video it was that I saw, but the way you speak about literature, characters, authors… it reignited the reader in me. I used to read so much during my childhood, teenage years and early 20s. Then my life took a different turn and I gave up reading for almost 10 years. After I watched your video the other day I have started reading again. I am once again able to focus on a book and submerge myself in the magic of whatever story the author is telling me. I am so, so thankful that I stumbled upon your channel. Thank you for your videos, your recommendations and for all the love and good vibes you give to your subscribers! A thankful viewer, M.
I enjoy reading Shirley Jackson during the fall. We Have Always Lived in the Castle, The Haunting of Hill House, The Road Through the Wall…all great cozy in a spooky, unsettling way books 😂
even though it's spring where I am (and there's a never ending heatwave), the love for Jane Austen and Northanger Abbey in this video made me really cozy and happy :} what a joy to live in a world where there are books such as the ones Austen has written.
In general, I find there are few people who I would describe as infallible book recommenders but you're about as close as I've found, Emma. I've found your 5 star reviews are pretty much spot on for enjoyment so thank you for sharing and have a wonderful week! 🙂
Even though School for Good and Evil is a middle grade series I can’t recommend it enough! The story is so beautiful, the characters are amazing and mean everything to me, and it honestly has a lot of twists and turns!
Just when one thought their TBR couldn't get any bigger. But honestly I've been waiting for October for month now just to read Interview with the Vampire, which has been on my physical TBR since June. Great video.
so excited to hear you're going to solve more christies! that's how I found your channel at the beginning of 2023, and I really came for the silly mystery hook and you ended up getting me back into reading as a whole! I had read Zero christies when I watched you try and solve them... now I've read 9! overjoyed at the idea of a new one in that video series!
I took a page out of your previous solve a mystery video and did my own little solve Wednesday when it premiered on Netflix. I watched about three or four episodes, and then I wrote down my solution of the case and sealed it in an envelope. I got some of it right and more of it wrong, and it was a fun time. Hemming and hawing (mentally) once the clues start rolling in about half-way through made me appreciate the skill put into the mystery. Thank you for the inspiration.
Obsessed w Frankenstein as well- remains not only one of my favorite classics, but books in general. Also random AF, but I’m smitten w your voice & though I watch during all my moods, your voice calms me when im feeling anxious 📕🪱💚
I also absolutely loved Phantom of the Opera when I read it! I loved the mystery of it all and how the narrator was a detective. The musical is fun, but the original story has so much more...more depth and layers and just way more engaging. I remember being just totally transported with the descriptions of the opera house and all the architecture. I need to read it again, thanks for mentioning it!
Highly recommend Ray Bradbury’s The October Country. These short stories capture the season of Fall more than I have ever experienced in a book. I think I’ll be reading it every year because of how much I loved it.
id love to hear more of your manga recommendations or even like a tier ranking of all the ones you’ve read so far! I love manga so much and have been reading it since i was a kid but ive been in a slump for about 6 years and havent read much, definitely wanna get back into it!
I’m so excited to read your cozy autumn recommendations, Emma! Always love and appreciate them, I’m always be grateful to you bc Phantom is now one of my favorite books ever 🧡🧡 also you look so cute!!
Impulse buy and download of Aggie Morton, only 100 pages in but great fun, charming, and has enjoyable characters. If you want something different give it a go. Perhaps I shouldn't be reading it as I am nearly 70 years old, but as they say, you are never too old to enjoy a book. Take care everyone.
Hellooo Emma and everyone in this amazing side of the internet!! ⭐️I just wanted to tell u that I’ve been having the time of my life binging ur videos and I started to treat myself to them after I finish studying loads of lessons !!💖 Iu SERIOUSLY DONT know how much comfort I get from them and omgggg I EVEN STARTED LISTING DOWN SOME RECCOMENDATIONS u mentioned ✨some of which are 100 years of solitude and oh my god .. how can a book be this goood from the first page 😭 AND UR RELATIONSHIP WITH BOOKS IS ADMIRABLE AND IT MAKES ME LOVE BOOKS EVEN MORE !! 🫶🏻thank u for making videos , really !!💖💖
this was the perfect cozy video to watch whilst I did some washing up 🍂🍁☕️📚 Thank you Emma :) I’m really looking forward to reading ‘October, October’ soon, preferably in October lol! I hope to read some of these recommendations too, the manga about Venice sounds so cute 🫶🏼
Emma you're the best !! This year I'm going to be reading one of your recommandations from last year (I think?) for my class about tales : the bloody Chamber ! Can't wait!
Hello Emmie :)I noticed that you said you don't have a lot of mangas that you absolutely adore, and I dont know if anyone else has recommended or if you've already tried to read this but, Witch Hat Atelier is one of my absolute favorites so far, I think I'm only on like the 3rd volume, but let me tell you...the artwork? Beautiful, it's like no other manga I've seen, like the typical panels you normally have...the artwork itself makes the book look like some sort grimore or ancient book you've picked up, and the storyline? Wonderful world building that really delves into the magic system it has, along with its limits and opportunities for growth. It's amazing and I cannot recommend it enough, if you ever feel like giving it a try. :) Oh, and thank you for the recommendations!
Emma have you explored any of the different translations of Phantom? I’m seeing recommendations for the 2012 translation by David Coward. Do you seek out specific translations for books in general?
I really think you would love Mushishi, a gentle, melancholic, super atmospheric, sometimes heartbreaking manga about living in harmony with the natural world. Unfortunately it is literally impossible to get physical copies at reasonable prices, but there are ebook versions available. Normally I hate reading manga/graphic novels/etc in ebook form, but Mushishi is an absolute masterpiece, a very very rare thing in the manga/anime world imo, and it's worth reading in any format you can get your hands on. The anime adaptation is also absolutely incredible, if watching anime is your thing. Possibly even better than the manga because of how much more it can do with atmosphere through animation and sound.
You might've convinced me to finally read phantom of the opera 👀 I'm a huge fan of it as a concept, i own the movie dvd, I loved an mh character based on it growing up, but I never read the book! I think its time.
My top autumn books are Dracula, Frankenstein, and Phantom of the Opera (in that order). I also love the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde 🎭 thanks to you for the recommendations in years past so I could find these treasures
You talking about Northanger Abbey is making me think about giving another shot to Jane Austen's books 😵💫 Ps. My coziest autumn books recommendation has to be the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit of course 🍂🌰
I don't have a "cozy" book... but I do have a book that I return too for comfort. I re read this every time that I am sick, or feeling unsure of myself, or depressed. It's "The Thornbirds" by Colleen McCullough. I truly can't tell you the number of times that I have read this book. Every time I read it, I feel like I am visiting family. Without giving spoilers it ends up being a bit of a sad book, but... I love it. I love them. I miss them when I go to long without reading about them (the characters)... OH WAIT!! I take that BACK! I DO actually have a cozy book... it's Wuthering Heights... Man.... THAT is my cozy book!!
I just recently read The Phantom of the Opera because of your constant recommendation of it and it was utterly beautiful I particular love the way Leroux describes musical sounds(usually made by Erik) often as other-worldly like for example "I had no idea what to make of those unforgettable sounds which, if they weren't pouring directly out of heaven, gave no indication of where else they could be coming from. Not from the here below, that's for sure, for there was neither instrument nor hand nor bow on earth capable of it." When people have that sort of way with words it does something to me and brain just forgets how to function I swear to god 😂
loved the recommendations! just curious, anyone knows what is the best translation of The Phantom of the Opera? I'm thinking about reading it this spooky season and I'm not sure which edition to get 🧐
I cannot say that I have to read certain books for a given season, but I do enjoy finding a comfortable place to read and feel like I am in an appropriate atmosphere. You made some pretty comfortable selections and Mary's Monster especially catches my attention. It kind of reminds me of the structure of an Ellen Hopkins book where each chapter is written in verse and takes on its own story. The Aggie Morton series sounds cute. I would like to read more by Agatha Christie and am left to wonder if all of her books could or have been bound up like the collection you have. For now, I am acquiring as many as possible in used paperback for incredibly cheap. I came across a complete collection of Jane Austen, but decided against purchasing it, while I did read The Phantom of the Opera awhile back, but it really did not stick with me. Aria looks quite intriguing, despite the fact that I do not read manga. Thank you for sharing your recommendations and I hope you read even more great books this autumn! -Josh
Northanger abbey might be my favorite Jane Austen! I thought it was so funny and frustrating following the drama of Catherine’s life with snake friend and annoying suitor lol. Also, Mr. Tillney was full of so much personality.
Aria has an anime adaptation I believe, so you might be interested in checking that out if you like the manga, especially since you are having trouble finding more volumes. I haven't read or watched the series, so I can't say how accurately it is adapted, but I have heard good things about the anime. It looks nice from the images I've seen.
I started reading Phantom by Susan Kay last night (based on your recommendation). I wanted to reread Phantom of the Opera, but decided I should read something I’ve never read before instead. Phantom has been sitting on my shelves and I decided it was the best of both worlds while also giving me my Phantom fix :)
I am so glad you liked the 'And then there were none' book, Emma! It's difficult to send a book to the person you get all your book recs from and hope they haven't read that book AND that they like it lol
Stopped to think about my essential cozy books and I feel all of them are way more spring or summer coded. That being said, it's not like I experience seasons where I live... It's just like dry and cold or literal hell. Also, both of my essentials aren't translated to English, which is such a pity, cause you'd LOVE them, Emma! One is called A Fada que Tinha Ideias (The Fairy who Had Ideas) and it's about a fairy who refuses to do her homework cause she thinks all magic in the book of fairies is outdated, so she just invents her own spells (and kinda gets in trouble). It's cute and fun and the illustrations are adorable! The other one is called Luna Clara and Apolo Onze (Luna Clara and Apolo Eleventh) and it's about these two children, each of them lives in opposite sides of the center of the world, where it never rains cause Luna Clara's father took the rain with him 10 years prior, in a huge misunderstanding. Luna Clara never lived through anything in her life and she keeps waiting the day her father will come back. One day she feels wind for the first time in her life and decides to go chase it. Meanwhile, Apolo Onze is always bored cause his town is in a huge party since he was born, so he doesn't have a lot of wishes. One day, he wakes up and it's raining and his first wish ever is to chase the rain. Both of them meet each other right in the center of the world and kinda find some secrets. The writing is SO poetic and SO fun!!! You'd love it so much!! It's really your vibe. If you spoke portugueses or there was an english or french translation, I'd had sent it to you already
I wish there was a website where you could search up books and check what season they recommended for... I have so many books lying around, wondering when the best time to read this is... maybe you guys could help me - when would you read: - Far From the Madding Crowd (Thomas Hardy) - Flush (Virginia Woolf) - His Dark Materials (P. Pullman) - The Overstory (Richard Powers) - Emma (Jane Austen) - Jane Eyre - Great Expectations ?? :)
I already read Aggie Morton (based on your rec) and it really was wonderful! I've been putting off Northanger Abbey but I'm TBRing it for October and I've ordered The Phantom--OK OK haha you've talked about it before and for some reason this time it really resonated--SOLD! I'm also going to finally read my illustrated vintage copy of House of Seven Gables. Happy Fall!
My **autumnal read** is any fantasy and dark academia, but especially The Secret History by Donna Tartt (cliche, I know), Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo, and Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
Books I can highly recommend for autumn: Halloween Party by Agatha Christie (Poirot in his whole greatness), The book that wouldn't burn by Mark Lawrence (I started last week, gave me peace already), The last devil to die by Richard Osman (so funny and heart-warming, my therapy surrogate when feeling blue and mentally worn out) , The queen of the damned by Anne Rice (the vampire chronicles, love the series and especially Lestat) and of course The return of the king by Tolkien (epic)
omg! I read The Book That Wouldn't Burn as well and it easily is the best read of the year for me! More people should talk about this book and I can't wait for the sequel 🥹
@@emmiereads the second book of the vampire chronicles, The vampire Lestat, is an absolute masterpiece. She explains a lot about the origins of the vampires, what made this world more coherent. Because of that liked it even better than Interview with the vampire😎
@@tanja1007 it absolutely is! I'm so excited to know what the second cover will look like! but my fatty ass fingers rubbed some of the gold lettering off 😔
Great recomandations and video! Don't know if it can help but Aria was recently republished in french by Ki-oon, if you really can't find it in english and still want to continue ;)
I think you’ve convinced me to read Phantom of the Opera 😳 The story is fantastic in general but I really want to look at it through the scope of disability & the world’s view of it, which is something I’ve never heard discussed until you talked about the introduction you wrote for one of the editions. I’d really like to get my hands on that one lol Now I’m going to have the music stuck in my head for the remainder of the day 😅❤
Highly recommend The Skull by Jon Klassen. It is beautifully illustrated and reminds me of my favourite childhood book (also recommend) In a Dark, Dark Room compiled by Alvin Schwartz and illustrations by the Dirk Zimmer.
Hi Emmie, I love what you said about Northanger Abbey, I am currently rereading it too. If you were looking for something similar in tone but without the gothic novel references, Evelina by Fanny Burney is great and in many ways similar (young naive girl entering the marriage market and making a lot of mistakes while looking for love).
Aria is currently out of print. A few years ago RightStufAnime did a kickstarter for a series Masterpiece reprint and those are probably your best bet at finding copies. It even has the series Aqua, which Aria follows as part of the collection. I have that set and it is beautiful. It's called Aria The Masterpiece collection. Seven omninus volumes. Best of luck hunting them down. Currently all the complete sets I could find is a stupid amount.
The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston. Phantom, Frankenstein and Dracula 😍 Wuthering Heights 💞 Legends and Lattes I also have some cosy mysteries and Halloween Party by Agatha Christie to get through. I recommend The Three Dahlias and A Very Lively Murder too ❤
Thank you for the recommendations! Have you read Through the Woods? It is a graphic novel by Emily Carroll? It is a collection of creepy/cozy short stories (campfire story vibes). I think you would like it. I really enjoyed the rhythm of the writing.
emma in a beanie?? you are so pretty??
thank you so much love☺️

Yesssss love Hill House and the Castle!!
We have always lived in the castle is so good!!!

That’s like my fave compliment haha thank you!! So glad so many of them work for you!
Ah hope you love it!!! I need to get to book two this season for sure🍂
so excited to hear you're going to solve more christies! that's how I found your channel at the beginning of 2023, and I really came for the silly mystery hook and you ended up getting me back into reading as a whole! I had read Zero christies when I watched you try and solve them... now I've read 9! overjoyed at the idea of a new one in that video series!
So excited for fall! 😊
Phantom is definitely an awesome fall read.
Thank you for the recommendations! The Agatha Christie mystery videos is what got me into the channel, and I can't wait for more!
Your videos never fail to make my day! Love the recommendations~ Have a lovely day!
Ah wonderful💙 have the best day yourself!!
Probably the best autumnal recommendations list I've come across yet!
I just barely read Mary's Monster. I cried. Five stars, gorgeous. Just a stunning piece of work.
Highly recommend Ray Bradbury’s The October Country. These short stories capture the season of Fall more than I have ever experienced in a book. I think I’ll be reading it every year because of how much I loved it.
Hope you are soon finished with your final thesis so that you can really relax and enjoy the fall season. Thanks for sharing your read list.
Every year once the weather starts to cool down, I like to reread House of Leaves its amazing and my favorite fall time book.
id love to hear more of your manga recommendations or even like a tier ranking of all the ones you’ve read so far! I love manga so much and have been reading it since i was a kid but ive been in a slump for about 6 years and havent read much, definitely wanna get back into it!

Emma, here in Brazil it's Spring, but we are in the middle of a terrible heatwave. Your picks are great to "refresh" my mind a little. ❤😊
I am a weird person because I am the biggest mood reader and fall only makes my reading more chaotic. I hope you and Calcifer are doing well

You might like to watch Margaret Rutherford in this.
It's an old black and white film but she is a beloved actress and quite gifted.
I recently read Mary's Monster and I agree that it was awesome
such good recs ahhh thank uuu! My essential is something gothic, something dark academia, and a cozy fantasy probably 💗
13:16 Reverse the curse would make a nice book title? Band name? Idk, something
Arms and shoulders sweater, I love it!
My top autumn books are Dracula, Frankenstein, and Phantom of the Opera (in that order). I also love the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde 🎭 thanks to you for the recommendations in years past so I could find these treasures
I’m going to be reading Dracula for the first time this October!!
Northanger Abbey is definitely a cozy fall reading!

Ah, I've been waiting for this!! I love your recommendations 🍁
Truly the best season 🍂🍁winter people can fight me
(Not really, because I would lose but moderate weather does not get enough love)
You talking about Northanger Abbey is making me think about giving another shot to Jane Austen's books 😵💫

I bought Marys Monster after you first spoke about it. Im going to be reading it in October 😊
I’ve read & endorse all of these books, especially Mary’s Monster. Aggie Morton was wholesome fun, & the Phantom is endlessly readable. 🎃
Essential autumnal book recs:
-Pumpkinheads (graphic novel)
-The Canterville Ghost (Oscar Wilde at his sassiest)
-Spells for Forgetting (adult contemporary fantasy/incredible autumn vibes)
-Dracula / Carmilla
-The Castle of Otranto (og gothic)
-Bloodlust & Bonnets (hilarious gothic graphic novel)
-The Lost Stradivarius (little heard of gothic novel)
-the poetry of Lionel Johnson Pigot
-poems bewitched & haunted (Everyman’s library pocket poems)
Nice video, Emma! Do you also like the Phantom of the Opera musical with Emmy Rossum?
I think The Woodlanders (T Hardy) feels VERY autumnal and Mill on the Floss (G Eliot) is another very cozy read.
thank u sm for the recommendations, emma!!

I am so glad you liked the 'And then there were none' book, Emma! It's difficult to send a book to the person you get all your book recs from and hope they haven't read that book AND that they like it lol
I love Maureen Johnson and am looking forward to reading Nine Liars soon! 🍂🍁
emma you look so cute in your beanie !♡
thank you for the recommendations >< lets have a cozy fall together ^^
I'm Iranian🇮🇷I have fallen in love with your voice 🥰☕
“She’s entering into the world of balls”
I wish there was a website where you could search up books and check what season they recommended for... I have so many books lying around, wondering when the best time to read this is...
maybe you guys could help me - when would you read:
- Far From the Madding Crowd (Thomas Hardy)
- Flush (Virginia Woolf)
- His Dark Materials (P. Pullman)
- The Overstory (Richard Powers)
- Emma (Jane Austen)
- Jane Eyre
- Great Expectations
?? :)
Jane Eyre is perfect for fall IMO 🍁 as are all Brontë sisters books
I already read Aggie Morton (based on your rec) and it really was wonderful! I've been putting off Northanger Abbey but I'm TBRing it for October and I've ordered The Phantom--OK OK haha you've talked about it before and for some reason this time it really resonated--SOLD! I'm also going to finally read my illustrated vintage copy of House of Seven Gables. Happy Fall!
I absolutely must know where you got your just sleeves sweater, its stunning 😍
New bookshelf placement?!
I moved everything again what is wrong with me😂
I'm currently reading northanger abbey 🥰
Sinve you enjoy footnotes, have you considered reading Infinite Jest?
Ooh yes I really should continue with Anne Rice this season👀
@@mk-yt8og even the cover of the paper back edition is stunning😍
Was waiting for this one ❤😍
I’m looking forward to rereading The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter soon. Thanks Emma!
You always have the best recsssss❤❤❤
Yayyy 🥺✨
The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston.
Phantom, Frankenstein and Dracula 😍
Wuthering Heights 💞
Legends and Lattes
I also have some cosy mysteries and Halloween Party by Agatha Christie to get through.
I love the phathom of the opera
