Nice to see someone who knows what they are doing. first time I saw a real expert, a guy whole rebuild alt. and starters. He checked all the windings. Unsoldered 2 of them, put in new ones - soldered them back in. and cleaned the 'brush contract area' and put it back together. and quickly. I was about 15 and VERY impressed. Same with your work. You know aht you are doing.
You hit the nail right on the head when you said its good to see a person taking a pride in their work as done by the gent on this site, i only wish more people had the same work ethic these days.
As an apprentice, I was taught to buy well & buy once, buy cheap buy twice. Look after your tools and they will look after you Let the tool do the work Old Frank Friend was full of sayings I now find myself repeating lol. That was early 80s as an electrical engineer. The tin box makita drill that had a gun clip. Makita invented what we now know as battery tools. The exchangeable battery. You probably know this. Still have some Atlas Copco and bosch from early years until I moved to Makita in 90s. 1 x 18v battery from 2007 still hanging on. I am going to frame it 😂. Definitely calling in and buying something when we visit your area. My grandad was from there. Hope they allow me in with my Leonberger dog. All the best Rich
Loved this video. When you got to that lx drill I thought you should get a little cheapo dremel with wire brush heads to clean off that corrosion. Had me looking at my lx to see if it was the same lol. Keep up the great repair work sir! Loved it.
Great to see Makita tools getting fixed and given a second or third life. I love my Makita tools and they never have let me down on any jobs i have used them on.
Love the ease in the way you work. It’s clear how much experience you have in your field. Love seeing old things being brought back to life especially the older drill . Brilliant stuff
i have found very power tools that are not easily repaired. the drawback is that often parts are very expensive. i save non-repairable tools for future use as parts and have been lucky in that respect.
What a contrast between the build quality and repairs that can be done on the Makita compared to the Milwaukie your has in the previous video. It seems to me Milwaukie is a throw away tool that isn't meant to last.
once again learnt so much from one of your videos. Especially the advice about adding grease to battery angle grinders. I just got a knock off makita and I was going to chuck a load of grease into it but i'll just put a pea size like you said. Thank you.
I also repair pretty much everything and started my own small business, but finding customers is the hardest part sadly. I also collect broken tools and devices, salvage them and/or repair them. But I find that not many people seem to be interested in 2nd hand tools sadly. Also it's not fun to have lot's of tools and spare parts lying around with no purpose other than repair. So finding more customers would be great, but not seeing it happen anytime soon sadly.
Thank you: for reinforcing my MAKITA-brand belief: they are nice to work with, don’t give you trouble and now I also know that after 15 years of work and potentially even abuse, I can try and fix them to get a few more years out of them. Let’s hope some MAKITA engineers watch this and show it to their bosses to save this brand from going down the enshittification route like so many other brands that optimize for short term profit. And then let’s hope more kids watch this to stay away from the cheap choices that will end up in the trash after a few projects.
It's not uncommon to find boxes of similar discarded tools at out local electronics disposal facility. Most are further gone than these of course. Thanks for the quick lessons to repair them.
Such a pleasure. to wàtch. someone who simply gets to the job without the long winded intros and interruptions so many presenters insist on, US presenters please note
lovely insight and good to know. i own many mnay makita tools and after watching this , one day when i run into a problem....ile have a rough idea of why what breaks, has broken. Great video!!!
You can’t beat the old corded makita tools, I still have and use the very first corded drill and corded sander/polisher, and large circular saw that I bought new in the late 70s, early 80s. I treated the sander to some new bearings, grease change and brushes recently. The drill and saw are still on their original brushes. Not bad for over 40 years old, definitely got my money’s worth 😆👍
the new ones made in the land of the rising sun/ uk are not too bad these days still. like 90%. the pin nailer basically went in the trash but other than that its been a dream.
As angle grinder its obsolete , but same motor assembly is in few other tools , DPJ 180 biscuit jointer , DJN 161 nibbler and DJS 161 sheet metal cutter. Dont see Makita upgrading those tools , not really aimed at masses, you need more that couple of sold units .
I have been wanting to try vessel screwdrivers for along time. I just ordered one of their ball handle electric screwdrivers. I see alot of reviews on them.
I've just come across your channel Dean, may I say what a great technician you are. I have thoroughly loved watching you repair these power tools. I will be going through more of your videos. I have a Milwaukee cordless circular saw which if you slide the 18v battery back and forwards it tends to pop into life sometimes. I've been looking at some other videos and there seems to be a common problem with the on/off switch. Have you come across this before ?
Loved this. I thank you and I learned some! I have amongst other things my trusted BFD343. It is 24 years old and I used it on two and a half houses complete renovation. I drilled, drove big screws, renovated and polished 10 mopeds & used it on my Triumph Bonneville and did so many other chores with it. I has becoming slow. I could buy a new one but why? I still have 3 batteries for this machine. I want to get a new motor in it because I can't find a way to replace the brushes. It should have brushes but I don't see them. have you ever did a BFD 343? Have a great 2026! Greetings from a Dutchman, living in Germany.
I'll never understand the mind of someone who takes something apart, and puts it back together with pieces leftover. I mean at least they keep the repair business going strong.
To be honest, the melting brush holder is actually a design flaw. Replacing it is actually not a solution because it can happen again. Makita must investigate the problem and provide a real solution.

Makita is made to be repaired, only for this I love makita
The same goes for Bosch. Bought a big 2400W angle grinder back in 2010. Every single bolt or washer is still available genuine and can be ordered.
Good to see the new tools getting a work out! I really didn't think you'd get that rusty drill working.... That was a brilliant fix!
"An end bell, yes that way round" punched my chuckle button.
Thank you so much
Diagnostics were my weak spot until I discovered your channel
You don't see many who bother repairing electrical tools these days, nice work 👍
Great to see that we can still repair the older trusty tools, good job Dean, AGAIN.
"end bell, yes that way round" 🤣🤣😂😂
Like seeing the new vessel screw driver being used
RUclips has become a batter place because of you ❤ thank you for your efforts to share knowledge with people ❤
Mr magic works his hands again on that rusty drill 👏🏻

You make it look so easy.
That was very entertaining to watch cheers!!
End bell is my new favourite expression 😁
Nice job Dean.Enjoyed the video

THIS is why we keep coming back. The commentary is as entertaining as the content is informative.
Love to see that you use a Hikoki tool to repair Makita
Great to see Makita tools getting fixed and given a second or third life. I love my Makita tools and they never have let me down on any jobs i have used them on.

Awesome job Mr. Doherty another great educational video..
You are on point man! Great work
Nice work. Imagine how many tools are thrown away that could easily be repaired.
Cracking channel. Thanks.
Grease?????????

Great video with commentary! I love my Makita tools
Just subscribed...How did I miss this channel. Mega repairs. 👏👏👌👍🤝
Love your videos and how you explain in detail. Thanks for sharing.
You are good master. You need mini lathe for polish.
That was very interesting and informative. Nice to see in this throwaway society.
looking forward to seeing the makita 18v halo light impact driver to come in
Thanks again Dean!!!!
Excellent!
It's not uncommon to find boxes of similar discarded tools at out local electronics disposal facility. Most are further gone than these of course. Thanks for the quick lessons to repair them.
Definiteley that way round Dean, the other way round usually goes on the trigger.

The last machine 👌🏽👌🏽, do you check the electrical wiring?
Thanks for sharing👍
That was as good as going to college. Compelling viewing and a masterclass in how it should be done.
Congrats et thanks.
i think you have done this before 🤣😂👍👍 great to watch

that looks easy..
You say the red line on topp and the notch down...But it got resembled exactly as it got teared down... ;-)
give them credit, and they make the one thing you're supposed to unscrew from a soft plastic.
Thank you Dean, for showing how us mortals can 0repair
You make it look so easy and relaxing. I need a new drill which makita drill any recommendations on model.
As angle grinder its obsolete , but same motor assembly is in few other tools , DPJ 180 biscuit jointer , DJN 161 nibbler and DJS 161 sheet metal cutter.

I flinched when you brought out those long pliers,…🦷🦷🦷
Hi Dean
On the BHP452, would it normally fix the switch if you renewed the mosfet ?
Bravo a toi , tres beau travaille, et en plus tu est tres bien equipes outillages et pieces, merci pour la video
48:21 i am pretty shure the Switch is working ,the Led wont Work of corrosion, also the Motor graphite of corrosion first
I have been wanting to try vessel screwdrivers for along time. I just ordered one of their ball handle electric screwdrivers. I see alot of reviews on them.
I am getting Liam Nesson vibes and are just waiting for the Makita Machine Gun repair 😀 Thanks for a great video!
helal olsun kirvem on numara
Loved it Dean 👍
My first time in your workshop, but I'll be back (with a packet of Choccy Hobnobs)😂

What brand of Philips driver bit do you use?
super entertaining content, thanks
from where do you buy the borken tools and the parts?
I have this grinder. It’s as useful as a glass hammer. I wish it had broken so that I would have bought the brushless quicker than I did.
they still sell alot of the old brushed makita tools at hardware stors like B and Q for DIY'and first time users
Loved this. I thank you and I learned some! I have amongst other things my trusted BFD343. It is 24 years old and I used it on two and a half houses complete renovation. Greetings from a Dutchman, living in Germany.
Just recently got a DGA452 with the same fault. Honestly I'm only using this to quickly cut a bolt or two, I wouldnt use them for longer sessions.
🎉🎉🎉🎉Makita
End bell 😂
Here on Vancouver Island cold, wet, damp winter weather is tough on anything metal.
Any tool left out or even in an unheated shop will rust and corrode
Same here in Ireland it's a constant battle against rust.
It's been a while since I've felt the virgin feel of a set of pliers that haven't been roughed in the mud for years as an irrigation worker
Use camphor tablet to protect your tools against rust ..!! Simple!!
Great videos dean, I watch these videos every day interesting viewing keep it up 👍
Glad you enjoy them, thanks for watching!
I'll never understand the mind of someone who takes something apart, and puts it back together with pieces leftover. I mean at least they keep the repair business going strong.
What is the last tool for?
Took me a while to get the end-bell joke, but than agi=ain English isn't my first :)
rip headset users when he is blowing out the body
Dean. What are those mini bearing pullers you use? They look really well put together, compared to the ones I see listed on the usual websites.
Vessel screwdrivers and the huge pliers did a great job there 👊🏻👊🏻🍻
They came in handy here
Do you fix stabila lazer levels
Hi. do you sell your repaired items?
👍👍👍👍👍👍❤
452 rules :)
To be honest, the melting brush holder is actually a design flaw. Replacing it is actually not a solution because it can happen again. Makita must investigate the problem and provide a real solution.

Came for the skill, stayed for the accent.
