I’ve heard that you want to avoid soaking the heads too long. The skin starts to degrade.

Just to watch you play was satisfying after all that work.

I would tighten as high as you think is safe without ripping, hold it tight for an hour or so, and loosen them up. I believe that each time you tighten, and loosen you can learn the leather's reaction with the sound. For the way it sounds in your video, I will go about almost 2 full turns to get them really tight........tears are always possible.

My first percussion instrument, and have been playing it for 50 years. You did a great job doing that. I looked you up because I have not gone natural, unassembled skin since about 30 plus years. I just order goat skin for the Geovanny Hidalgo Galaxy series I bought. I would try tuning the heads a lot higher, or tighter on your bongos. Good video

Awesome glad you enjoyed the video! I’ve thought about trying to tune mine up higher. Do you think the heads will rip if i do that?

I think the new heads sounded good. But I like the more warm and mellow sound of skin heads. It depends on what you are using them for. If you are a drummer who are using them as part of your set, you probably want synthetic heads to cut through. For me, in a small jlatin azz setting with only a trio of hand percussion, latin guitar and acoustic bass, the natural heads fit in well.

Hey brother so you know the "Hembra" is pronounced "em-bra". In spanish the "H" is silent in that word which translates to female. Macho means male. Why the H is there in the first place beats me. Great tutorial!

Hello bro. For me it sounds nice. Real skin is too expensive here in the Philippines so i am using a fake leather for my bongo head and it sounds ok when i am using it on our church... Have a good day.
