Hey me too....I first heard it when it came out in the Spring of 1971, just before my high school graduation....That was in Southern California and I would fill up my beat up 1957 English Ford, ( Anglia ) with about two fifty worth of gas, since the Shell gas station where I worked sold the leaded regular gas for about 27 cents per gallon..... Those were the days.....
Self correction : The Young Rascals were singing Let's Hang On in 1965, not 1964....But the price of gas was stated correctly as 15 to 18 cents per gallon for regular in those years....But by the time this song by Richie Havens came out, it had "skyrocketed" to 27 to 29 cents per gallon......
