The situation in Norhtern Kosovo is more complex than Vaush is implying here. Yes, albeit in classic Balkan reciprocity due to the fact that Serbia has actively refused to allow Albanian-language schoolbooks and have also reduced ethnic Albanians in the Presevo Valley's ability to vote, have property, health insurance, amongst other things. Let us not forget that Serbia also significantly escalated the 2021 license and registration situation by stationing soldiers and aircraft on the border with Kosovo, almost eerily echoing a similar two Slavic countries that would culminate in the next year. Both have been up to some shit, but Serbia is without doubt the main perpetrator of many of these significant increases in tensions and belligerence, no doubt a recall to the years under Milosevic in which Albanians and Kosovars were made some of the biggest targets of the FRYs propaganda campaigns next to the Bosniaks.
Kosovo has also agreed to the EUs requirement of autonomy for Kosovo Serbs, one of the major preconditions for their EU membership that was signed in March of this year. There's definitely one side that has shown the willingness to accept minorities within their borders and provide unique provisions so that they can better represent themselves... and it isn't Serbia.

In both instances, sovereign nations were invaded by external powers that actively supported secessionist movements, some even labeled as terrorists, like in the Albanian case, which were later acknowledged to have received funding and training from organizations such as the CIA.
Different perspectives offer justifications: someone from Russia's standpoint might emphasize what they view as a Ukrainian genocide, involving the loss of 15-18k Russian lives (thus, this individual argues for preventing such a slaughter). Conversely, Albanians may passionately denounce events as genocide from their own viewpoint. However, in the broader context, international law suffered due to the prevailing influence of geopolitical factors and the ambitious aspirations of major powers.

My coworker is Kosovar and man he cannot stop talking about this. There's so much shit behind the situation from 2005 to now, its almost like 100 years of history condensed into just 18.
To put it simply: Serbia and Kosovo tried to solve the deep divides between Kosovo Serbs and Albanians by electing a sort of dual-power in which majority Serb municipalities could have a higher degree of autonomy, encapsulated by the ability to have their own registration and plates for cars in Kosovo by the Serbian government way back in 2011. That agreement expired last year, which inflamed tensions. To which the EU stepped in, and tried to plan out a more structured deal between the two to give a degree of autonomy for Kosovar Serbs within the country in 2013. The Brussels Agreement didn't _actually_ go into force, which means most of the agreements were tentative and mostly hashed out by local mayorships and provincial officials. Those, likewise, also had a degree of independence from the Kosovo government in their dealings within Serb majority areas by instead being more aligned with Serbia including having their own party, the Serb List.
However, the Kosovo Supreme Court ruled most of those provisions unconstitutional, since... y'know, its in Kosovo's borders... and Serbia is not Kosovo (shocked pikachu face.) So now all the Serbs are mad because daddy Serbia can't give them license plates and free political clout (many of the Kosovo Serb politicians have close ties to the ruling Progressive Party of Aleksandar Vucic in Serbia, big surprise) and boycotted an already low turnout election, in which just SEVEN SERBIANS actually participated in the election, and only around 20k-ish Albanian Kosovars. Because so few people voted, there was literally no other option Kosovo had (no, recounts wouldn't work in this case) but to install their own officials as the mayors and representatives of these majority Serb areas, almost all of whom are Albanian. Serbian Kosovars got even more angry, and occupied town halls and streets to refuse the ability to allow these new officials in after their OWN PARTY ALL RESIGNED IN PROTEST. Only now the Kosovo government is starting to exert itself, and is forcing the mayors into office, resulting in the clashes.
tl;dr Shit's wack. Both Kosovo and Serbia are playing hardball and the USA and EU/UN have mostly just twaddled thumbs and said "oh well" to the situation. If it escalates, who knows. Certainly it would be Serbia's best interest to not directly engage in any military or paramilitary actions, considering the all too recent past. Vetevendosje is having a field day with this one.

some context for the western response to this situation. it's well known that the EU and lately US have been appeasing serbia to deescalate situations that are constantly caused by serb ethnonationalists. the serbian president has had some rapport with the EU lately around EU membership while also trying to cater to his right-wing prorussian voters. even without the former, the default western stance toward constant serb provocations has been lazy and short-sighted appeasement of the big bully as the seemingly easiest way to deescalate. meanwhile velikosrbi block institutions in kosovo, bosnia, and montenegro, and make progress in these countries impossible. the serb member of the bosnian presidency has been threatening to place serb militias at the borders of the serbian province 'republika srpska' (which they gained after dayton as a reward for ethnic cleansing) for months. never allow propaganda and relativization from the left or right to diminish the overwhelming persistence and malice of serbian ethnonationalism in this region

I'm one of the Serbs who supports Kosovo independence, I just want to provide my input here, for anyone who may care:
    - Serbs boycotted elections because Kosovo refuses to implement Brussels agreement from 2013 that it signed into, which will basically create small Republic of Srpska (entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina), I was even surprised why in the hell they signed this. Although current Kosovo government is right to refuse to implement it, that's not supposed to be how international relations work, if you sign onto something you cannot refuse to implement it, especially if you are minor country like Kosovo and Serbia are
    - Political leadership of Serbs in north Kosovo is basically criminal smugglers controlled and financed by Belgrade, who are using violence to silence opposition and citizens that are against them
    - That's why when Belgrade orders boycott nobody will go to elections because everyone is scared of those criminals
    - Same criminals attacked NATO forces few days ago
imo best solution is for Kosovo to cede these 4 majority Serb cities to Serbia and for Serbia to cede Albanian majority towns to Kosovo, that is only way to lasting peace. It seems like there can be no coexistence for quite some time unfortunately

I can confirm, former Yuga countries need to bicker all of the time until something explodes and then we all blame each other and shift responsibility. Thank fuck we made it into EU in 2004.

Afghanistan might be less economically developed than north korea, but the Taliban aren't even close to being able to establish a totalitarian regime comparable to north korea.

The Kosovo Serbs are in the right here, the Kosovo government refuses to treat the Serb population well. Plus the unironic anti Serb racism isn't cool.

We don't need to give more weapons to the taliban, they already have plenty of stuff that's been left behind.
And btw this is what happens to people when they're driving in Abrams tanks and IFVs all day long...you suddenly get this inexplicable urge to invade Iran, lol!!

Im from the balkans and many of the people are straight up completely indoctrinated when they're like 5 years old. They are told Kosovo is Serbia before they can even walk properly and they are taught false history that makes them seem like the victims and everyone out to get them.

26:24 I'd say they in order to define whether or how much a country is f'ed, food insecurity is a good indicator because people need to eat regardless of the religion of their leaders or of their type of government. There's also wars and stuff, but I think war correlates well enough with food insecurity, so that we can keep it as a single indicator.
In that regard, Afghanistan seems to be doing better than I thought, I didn't go in the details but depending on the map, if there is data for Afghanistan (and the fact that many maps don't have data for them is in itself concerning), they're doing marginally better than central African and Sahel countries, better also then Yemen and North Korea. Overall I'd say they're bottom D or maybe at worst in middle E tier, so not quite in F tier.
