Just a heads up guys, if you install retropie on top of raspian you have to install the usbromservice from the manage packages/ manage optional packages in the setup ui.

How do you install the usbromservice? I'm super new to all this and need it dumbed down alot lol. I installed retropi no problem on my rpi4 however I cannot figure out how to move roms to the pi for the life of me. I tried formatting a USB to fat32 and putting the folder named retropie in it and when I plug it in to my rpi4 and boot up retropie it does nothing and I think this may be why

Just a thought you mention at some point when copying the files from the pie to the thumbstick drive that you can't tell when it's done if there isn't LED on the thumbstick but can't you simply tell by looking at the back of the Pie board and check if the little green LED is still on?

So once this whole process is done, where would any scrapping end up, oh, and game saves too. In other words, once this is done, what gets written where (microSD or external) Please cover all that you can think of that would get written and where it would go after the process. Thanks.

You can enable exfat on the retropie as well if you wish to use Windows formatting. Quit ES and type in the command line the following:
    sudo apt-get install exfat-fuse exfat-utils
Press enter. Make sure you are hooked up to the internet. After that you can use exfat formatted USB drives just like a fat32 drive.

So, I'm very new to this whole Raspberry Pi & RetroPie thing. I am not very knowledgeable about it at all. Recently, I purchased the LABISTS Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Complete Starter PRO Kit with 32GB Micro SD Card (4GB RAM). I was finally able to get it set up and I was able to play a few games on it last night (5/26/21). The main reason why I decided to go with a Raspberry Pi was because I'm a child of the 80s and 90s. I wanted to have a system that let me play retro video games such as arcade games and console games (Genesis & SNES) from that time period. The problem I've run into now is that some of the roms work fine and others don't. I can't figure out why this is happening. I have heard that arcade roms use MAME, etc . . . Some of the arcade and 16-bit console roms are working, but other ones are not. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix this latest issue that I'm facing? Thanks.

I'm using RetroPie 4.4, using `retropie-mount` folder seems to do nothing but empty the USB stick, if I use "retropie" instead of "retropie-mount", it copies all contents of the USB stick inside the micro SD card which is not what I wanted, what am I missing?

Love the videos and sorry to be stupid. I am using a 256 gd Wolfano sd card image, and it is great, and I doubt i will add too many extras. But I would like to add (or try to add) return to castle wolfenstein - that is a classic (from my younger days). The biggest flash drive I have ever bought is half of the size of the sd card I have this image on. Can I add extra games onto the retro with the usb, or must the usb be larger than the sd card? Can I run some games off the usb and others off the sd is I guess what I am trying to ask??
I understood that games on the sd could be deleted from the pi (from your video), but still do not fully understand if I could add extras on a USB drive - it is "only" 128.
Thanks again for the great videos.

    Hello,
First off, your video is great. Nicely and thoroughly explained. I, however, am still having a hell of a time getting games from my usb stick to work on the actual pie. I am a 1st year coding teacher and was wondering if I could private message with you about how to do this. I have read a ton of stuff online so far but I feel that none of it answers my question(s). I have also tried your method in the video only to be met with an error log message when launching a game or just a black screen. I am trying to have this as a station in my classroom but so far all I have achieved is a LOT of frustration. Thank you and have a wonderful day!

My problem: Instead of having all the games transfer to the usb stick is there any way to leave the usb stick as extra storage. My rip4 sd card is 256gb but my usb sd card is only 32gb. Reason why is my image is so large that there is no room left to save input config even if I expand my card size in raspi config. So that usb stick doesn’t need to copy files just store new game data.

People need to create disk images for this specifically. The idea of doing all of that work each time is ridiculous. Just create a single boot image and then put your Pi images on USB or USB HDD. Better still, a boot image that loads from network whether TFTP or some other method.

When I start the pi, I get the Retropie start screen and the when it goes to access the hard drive I get a blank screen. I can see the red and green lights flashing on the pi and the hard drive, but no image, just a blank screen.
    Any ideas or suggestions??
