Can you expand on arrays of Helmholtz resonators in the form of perforated and micro-perforated panels (MPPs)? They're using some of the same principles but on a different, smaller repeated scale. There are some interesting effects of disrupting the oncoming wavefront with the air movement out of the holes, and extra absorption (allegedly) through air and surface friction, since the openings are so small. Your answer might still stand that they are difficult to tune and control, but it might at least be worth stating that the absorption width (Q) can be broadened by introducing porous absorption in the resonant cavity or behind the neck. Like putting ash in the urn. I'll get over it if they aren't helpful, but they're just so cool!
