2009 July Anti-Mosquito Fog Truck in South Korea (thermal fogger)

- Every spring/summer/fall in South Korea you will hear, and then see, the anti-mosquito fogging truck. You hear a rumbling burr sound off in the distance, and then might see white smoke billowing up from wherever the truck is driving. The truck drives slowly up and down every street, and into every apartment building parking lot. It sprays the white fog out in thick drifting clouds . . .
For foreigners visiting South Korea this can be shocking--especially if the practice of spraying for mosquitoes is not done in their home country/region. Especially shocking is the fact that children chase the chemical fog truck and run and play in the fog . . . and no one tells them to stop. Also, it seems like most people do not close their windows when the truck comes by, and generally seem completely unconcerned about the chemical fog that they are walking through . ..

haha i grew up in a Canadian swamp!! Not sure what skitters are like in Korea, but i have seen BAD, itchy times.
This is the first I have ever heard of a truck that drives about spraying FOG REPELENT in cities!!!......
I learned about it in the K Drama "Young Lady and Gentleman"-
It shows it in the beginning of the show, when I didn't understand what it was, and later on it is reveled a supporting character's brother went missing as a child cause he chased after a fog- truck like this, and disappeared/ got lost XD
I can see how it would be so fun for a kid, but is it safe to breath that directly? If they are running, they are probably inhaling it deeply, right into their lungs?? O.o
I wonder if they use Aqualure 2020 or just good old DDT. Either way I wouldn't recommend playing in the fog. Although... several studys have shown you can consume more pyrethroids eating store bought vegetables than breathing indirect mosquito fog.

On the real, all the kids would drop everything they were doing to chase the shit out of these trucks. I remember these two kids even stopped fighting to join in on the fun. Oh man good memories

Americans (and others) should understand that this practice isn't dangerous because the fog has very little chemicals. Most of the spray goes onto the actual asphalt. If these trucks were not in place the mosquitos would be like an American swamp.
