My dad, me and my 3 sisters - we all like to use Vetiver from Guerlain. My dad had the vintage ones, because he uses it for decades. It is for me a emotional fragrance, it starts me memories from my childhood.
It’s amazing how certain scents can do that! Drakkar Noir and Old Spice take me back to the age of 5 because my parents bought me a toy shave kit that had a little red plastic razor, Barbasol shave cream and a bottle of Old Spice… I used to stand next to my dad and “shave” when he did lol. Drakkar Noir smells a lot like Barbasol.
... Vetiver reminds me of the countryside in Dominican Republic. I just bought some Vetiver essential oil and I literally cried when I smelled it. So many beautiful memories of home. 💗
I love the rain. I also love any frag that has this particular note. This fragrance reminds me of wading through a swamp planted with citrus fruits and flowers along the edge.
Brilliant review. I have a vintage bottle so I am tempted to get the new version to compare. As I said before on my channel today I am so impressed with the progression of your channel. Bravo well done. Cheers my friend.
Great review! I blind bought Vetiver a couple of years ago mostly based on this review. I totally agree, it's a 10/10! My bottle is almost finished but I will definitely buy it again. Even if it's not as affordable as it used to be. Would love to see your take on other classic fragrances!
Couldn't agree more Chris. Ashton mentioned that it's also worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger, but to me, it's more reminiscent of something the hulk would wear. Hulk soap. By Guerlain.
Great work, Chris! I picked up this beauty about 2 months ago, and I absolutely love it. It’s so bright, green, and natural smelling that it’s just made to be worn outdoors in the Spring sunshine. However, I think you get far better longevity with it than I do because I need to re-apply. But for the cost/value, I can’t complain even a little bit. It’s a new favorite for me!
I never get tired of the classic Guerlain Vetiver. It’s a world of fragrance bliss, a prismatic olfactory experience. Like Chris says here, the full force of the vetiver doesn’t come until later. Before that, you have all those supporting notes like myrrh, tobacco, a slight sweetness, a hint of cola-sarsaparilla. As if these other notes are the opening bands to get you ready for the main act (vetiver). When I spray this on I just can’t stop smelling my arm. It’s intoxicating. Get some!
@@ComicmanImaginator I'm just getting introduced to it myself...seen about 4 video reviews, and read quite a number of written reviews. I see it's one of the longer lasting scents out there, and yes...younger guys wear this. It's an all season, very versatile fragrance from what I gather. I'm about to order some up myself. How about you...have you bought any since your question/comment 4 months ago?
i absolutely love it i hate the fact its really expensive now but i just picked up 150ml for 56 on notino thats a really good price at the moment and its definitely niche quality whatever that means lol
Vetiver's one of my favorite notes. I was fortunate enough to find a bottle of Dior's elusive vetiver and TF's Grey Vetiver's one of my top 10s. Ill need to get my hands on this one as well
You hit the nail on the head with this one, Chris. This will never leave my rotation or be absent from my collection. When no other fragrance is striking my fancy on any given day, Guerlain Vetiver is always there to save the day.
@@ComicmanImaginator Definitely a year round fragrance. I would say younger people could wear it, it's a very timeless fragrance in my opinion. I would say it leans slightly mature for everyday use, but for fancier occasions a young person would not seem out of place.
It smells like fresh cut grass after a rainfall mixed with a sweet sort of honeysuckle smell. It dries down a little fresh powdery and a bit darker than the opening. Lovely fragrance. 9.2/10
This one is a gem. I think I remember you saying in an old video you didn’t like vetiver all that much. Do I have that right? If so, are you more amenable to vetiver thanks to this one?
@frag-mental if I compare Guerlain Vetiver to TomFord Grey Vetiver, I found guerlan's a complex and strong vetiver. But will it last long in warm weather. Although TF GV is more citrusy , it also has some Depth. Do u think I should go for Guerlain as my first vetiver frag or should I choose TF's. Guerlain vetiver is EDT but TF's is EDP. And some say guerlain is old school types. I am looking for a good performing frag.
@@adwnasa1 Buy both. I have both. I like the citrus aspect of TF, but also like the earthiness of Guerlain Vetiver. If I only could buy one, I'd buy TF. I love the combination of citrus with vetiver.
I've been wearing Guerlain Vetiver for thirty plus years as my one and only frangrance. Over the years, I've been asked by both men and women about the scent I'm wearing. The best moment: a young lady was showing me to my seat in a Paris restaurant and said "I love the scent of Vetiver on a gentleman."
I just received this today, I have a few vetiver fragrances because it’s one of my favorite notes, I was nervous to try this one bc im 29 and I had read a lot of reviews that said it’s outdated and smells old manish even with the reformulation, that is not true at all, seems very easy to wear to me anyways, this fragrance seemed way ahead of its time. Thanks for this review of the recent version. My Guerlain Vetiver (vintage) sample arrived a week or two ago, prompting a near immediate buy-list addition. Was looking for a silver-cap vintage, but may try the modern as reasonably priced vintage bottles are in short supply on ebay these days. Really winning presentation, scent descriptions. Thanks again. Cheers.
Thanks Michael. I'm not sure how it compares to the vintage but this modern version is truly excellent. For the price I'd say grab a bottle. If you do please let me know how it compares to the vintage. If there is a difference I suspect it would be in performance. That being said , I have no complaints about the performance of this version.
Very great fragrance! I'm a big fan of Guerlain fragrances and this is one of my favorites. Sincerely speaking, I prefer the Tom Ford Grey vetiver, but this one is also amazing. Kind regards from Brazil!
Had a sample of this first, and originally found it boring. After a few months went by, I went back to that sample again, and something clicked. I just found I could not get enough of it. I bought a full bottle soon after and have been wearing it out. I love this stuff.
Wow this is strange. For first time I tried creed vetiver last night and liked it very much. Today at work I am wearing it. I think I have sprayed heavily but it has died down after 5 hrs. And now on RUclips I see this video from one of my favorite channel. What a coincidence? I am getting a video review of the very thing I tried for first time today. Amazing. Talk about knowing your audience. Love the scenery, very few videos use natural scenery. It’s refreshing to see.
Hey Chris, your review is spot on and I agree with everything you said here. I LOVE this stuff and yes it’s one of my favorites, especially for spring and summer. Neck and neck with Grey Vetiver and even Roja PC. Also, I really like Just Jack Vetiver (excellent Grey Vetiver clone) and Banana Republic 78 Vintage Green, I think that stuff is wonderful and for the price it can be had for if found at rack stores in the states it’s a no brainer… I need a backup. I recently got a 200mL Guerlain Vetiver for $40 of a group member and couldn’t be happier. Cheers.
That opening shot was so slick 👏 That quality and performance for the price should be the industry standard or illegal 😂 Frédéric malles Vetiver is my personal favourite but I really should re visit this one. Stellar as always 👑
Well done review! I really enjoyed this one and will have to revisit again since it was at the beginning of my fragrance journey and I'm enjoying vetiver a lot more these days.
Hey mate! Enjoy your channel and new podcast. I blind bought this fragrance based off your review. I am new to this game. I really like this fragrance and unusual fragrances for todays world such as Quorom to name one. The problem I have is that they tend to disappear on my skin. For instance this Vetiver smells quite weak to me. Is my nose just broken or is it common not to be able to smell fragrance on yourself. Cheers and keep up the good work!
Picked up my very afford tester bottle of Guerlain Vetiver based on your recommendation, Chris, and MY GOODNESS, is this an credible vetiver chypre. It's going in my arsenal of powerhouse fragrances, along with Versace L'Homme, and Issey Miyake L'Eau Bleue D'Issey.
It's just beautiful It's light delicious from the first spray and doesn't change into something lame or stale.. I'm an elderly lady and this has brought me pleasure for years.
Beautiful backdrop, price point on this product makes it very appealing. Scent profile smartly dissected as normal. Really like that coat as well !. Maybe we could have a Summer holiday fragrance essentials to pop into the wash bag, as thoughts turn to jetting away in the coming months.
just picked some of this up on ebay for decent deal. I got a bought of Cartier declaration [ maybe an idea for another review] last year and vetiver has similar mental recall for me, it reminds me of my granny!haha that sort of powdery, old skool fragance. I think it will most definitely stand out in a crowd, I'm not a massive fan of it but had similar reaction to cartiers v spicy fragance. great video.
*Great vetiver classic for your collection, Chris!* Smelled it this year, fresh green vetiver with wonderful citrus opening. Also in my Guerlain wishlist. *Have a sunny freaky friday!* ✌🌞☕
Love this review as it confirms its not just me who adores this "your only as olde as the juice you wear" fragrance. Its your fault FM as i've secured another bottle of this PLUS the eXtreme version edt
My most recent favorite vetiver is Creed vetiver geranium the vetiver works great with the geranium and the green apple I really enjoy it and for a Creed it's somewhat affordable Also we should keep in mind for a niche vetiver scent Guerlain vetiver edt is ridiculously inexpensive and great place to start the vetiver journey
Chris you never disappoint with the videos. I’ve been thinking about purchasing this frag myself. You pretty much sold me on it. Just out of curiosity, what hair product are you using? Because that hair is looking 👌🏻
Hey brother, great video and love the back drop. I smelled this years ago and to me it smells a bit dated. I he never smelled Creed's Original Vetiver but TF VETIVER ROCKS
Great video Chris, by the way, have you been doing voice overs for Jet 2 Airlines in the the U.K.? I was on a flight a few weeks ago, from Manchester to Malaga. And I was convinced it was your voice talking about the usual flight information, duty free, food, special deals etc.
Just got this in my last haul b/c of your take. First wearing today. It does rank up there with my grey vetiver edp, especially for the price. Very smooth so far. Great recommendation, Chris!
@@ComicmanImaginator if I'm being completely honest, it does have a slight maturity to the scent. That being said, it most definitely does not smell like an old man. I'd say 20 and up. But if a teenager would be rocking this I'd give him props. I think this is a fantastic fragrance
Great review. I like it currently as my 5th favorite vetiver but for me of the 4 I have ranked higher, 2 I own bottles: Armani Prive Vetiver d'Hiver and TF Grey Vetiver EDP and 2 I have smaller decant sizes: Chanel Sycomore and Byredo Bal d'Afrique...so my travel size of Guerlain will last a while. But it is by far the least costly of the 5. I also plan on trying Carolina Herrera's Confidential Vetiver Paradise at some point.
Hey Chris! I like Creed Original Vetiver, but I’m not the biggest fan of TF Grey Vetiver. Where does this one land if compared to those two? Great review btw!
You inspired me to purchase both Habit Rouge (which I had my eyes on for quite a while actually) and now Vetiver by Guerlain...and I have to say I LOVE both of them. Yes, they are classic and on the mature side, but wow, they are certainly worth a look! I picked up Habit Rouge 200mL bottle for $50 and Vetiver 200mL bottle for $45. What a steal! With Vetiver, I feel like I am in a fragrant forest. I get soapy wafts of grass and trees. Its wonderful and lasts all day. This is my third Guerlain fragrance and I am loving them all. I also have L'Instant de Guerlain which is lovely as well though not as versatile as the other two.
I've never worn a vetiver fragrance before. I've just bought 'boise de vetiver' by Lagerfeld (before watching this video). Did you try this one? And if so, may you compare it?
I love Guerlain Vetiver, it has an awesome quality/price ratio but the vetiver king is Nishane Sultan Vetiver even over Roja, Frederic Malle and others...
I purchased this one recently. Love the fragrance, but performance was terrible. Only projects for about 15-20 minutes before it goes total skin scent. The batch code puts it at mid-2019. Any chance it could be a dud even though it's fairly new?
This cologne is my one blind buy regret out of the forty colognes I own. Least favorite of the bunch and all I smell is vetiver, imagine that, lol I've learned that I prefer modern scents although I like 4711. I may try layering this with other woody scents to use it up as I hate this taking up space in my wine cooler.
Thanks for that insight. I was thinking of blind buying this but now I’m not so sure. Do you happen to know if this smells anything like Lalique Encre Noir? Because I strongly disliked that juice.
@@icecreamforcrowhurst I just so happen to have Lalique Encre Noir as well and I would say it's in the same family. On fragrantica it shows that people that like the Vetiver you're considering also like Encre Noir so I would assume the counter argument would hold up too that if you don't like Encre Noir you won't like the Vetiver. Personally I'm not a huge fan of Encre Noir either but on a 1-10 scale I'd give it a three and this Vetiver a one. Since it is in the same family of scents I was thinking of layering both together as Encre Noir would improve upon the Vetiver in my opinion.
@@fragitude thanks so much for taking the time to share that info and possibly saving me from a $50 mistake (quite a lot of coin for me). Given what you’ve said I think I’d best keep GV in the ‘try before you buy’ category. Best regards

That's great to hear! Thank you for watching 👍🏻
Hey brother, great video and love the back drop. I smelled this years ago and to me it smells a bit dated. I he never smelled Creed's Original Vetiver but TF VETIVER ROCKS
Nice fragrance. A bit old fashioned I think but still works very well. I bought it this summer for a great price. It's a good office scent.
Hows the performance?
Great video Chris, by the way, have you been doing voice overs for Jet 2 Airlines in the the U.K.? I was on a flight a few weeks ago, from Manchester to Malaga. And I was convinced it was your voice talking about the usual flight information, duty free, food, special deals etc.
Thanks Nick. Yes it's my voice! On the planes and radio and tv. Well spotted Sir 👍🏻
Just got this in my last haul b/c of your take. First wearing today. It does rank up there with my grey vetiver edp, especially for the price. Very smooth so far. Great recommendation, Chris!
Yes one of my best value purchases. Glad you're enjoying it 👍🏻
Hows the performance?
@@ComicmanImaginator on me it's above average. Good projection too. Of course, it's different for everyone.
@@jeffjamjeff6669 could it be worn by a younger crowd
@@ComicmanImaginator if I'm being completely honest, it does have a slight maturity to the scent. That being said, it most definitely does not smell like an old man. I'd say 20 and up. But if a teenager would be rocking this I'd give him props. I think this is a fantastic fragrance
Vetiver is awesome! This sounds like a treat for sure.
I remember when sprayed it in the evening time, it stayed until tomorrow morning +12 h and very sophisticated
I've seen that one but in the Guerlain L'Homme Ideal style bottle. Is it the same one?
Hey Chris! I like Creed Original Vetiver, but I’m not the biggest fan of TF Grey Vetiver. Where does this one land if compared to those two? Great review btw!
It's a little dirtier and more complex than the other two 👍🏻
@@FRAGMENTAL Thank you! I will be sure to check it out if I come across it. Have a blessed day.
The new square bottle seems to come with a new more expensive price tag. I can't find it as cheaply as I used to when it was in the long bottle.
@@EeBee97 It used to be half that price!
JUST A QUESTION MR FRAG-MENTAL?WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT IS GUERLAIN VETIVER OR GUERLAIN EXTREME VETIVER?
The ORIGINAL one that was made in 1961...
I've never worn a vetiver fragrance before. I've just bought 'boise de vetiver' by Lagerfeld (before watching this video). Did you try this one? And if so, may you compare it?
Actually is an 11/10 fragrance! 👍
Could it be worn by younger people year-round?
Yes! It's an all year around fragrance.
It's classy and masculine, pretty sharp and balanced, easy like an aftershave
Great fragrance , not my favouite but it's a personal taste. But it's so true what you said clean, green, a little bit on the masculine side.
My favorite Vetiver Fragrance so far is Encre Noire. I need to try this fragrance especially for the price
Following this i bought both Guerlain Vetiver and the Extreme versions. Love both but lean twds the Extreme. Thanks
I'm glad you're enjoying them 👍🏻
I love Guerlain Vetiver, it has an awesome quality/price ratio but the vetiver king is Nishane Sultan Vetiver even over Roja, Frederic Malle and others...
I purchased this one recently. Love the fragrance, but performance was terrible. Only projects for about 15-20 minutes before it goes total skin scent. The batch code puts it at mid-2019. Any chance it could be a dud even though it's fairly new?
I didn't realize it was that cheap for a 100ml bottle, nice. (lake district is absolutely beautiful)
I know, crazy price!
This was one of my first great finds and will always be in my collection.
I need to get my nose on this one, sounds good.
Just getting into the frag world. At 43 I don't want to smell like a seventeen-year-old. I have been looking at this fragrance for some time and I just got the box in today. So here's my question. You mentioned the longevity on you given this is an EDT. Would you mind sharing what your spray routine for this fragrance is? And thank you for this review.
