The show producers did IM so wrong. There was an interview or something where IM said that when they filmed this, he only knew that he was invited to dinner, but there was no briefing beforehand and he didn't know they would already start filming it as part of NoMercy at the time.

Monsta X is the greatest plot twist ever yudhusahda the ones that absolutely couldn't stand each other are living the greatest bromance these days. One big happy family
It was speculated that the reason the producers brought I.M. in during the middle of the show was that at this point, the execs were pretty set on Jooheon debuting as the main rapper, but neither #Gun nor Yoonho's rap styles complemented Jooheon's in the way they wanted. I.M. had been scouted by Starship earlier in 2014 after the pre-debut group he was part of in another company disbanded, but he likely became a Starship trainee after No Mercy had already begun marketing and pre-production, so he wasn't included in the initial lineup. However, when the execs decided that the two other rappers in the show didn't measure up to Jooheon, they brought I.M. in to test how his rap skills held up to Jooheon's. And sure enough, he was exactly the second rapper they were looking for. The way they introduced I.M. to the other trainees, though, was awful. They didn't tell him he would be joining the show, and they purposely had him meet the trainees in the most awkward and ill-timed circumstances possible. But let's be real... even if I.M. had started on the show from the beginning, he still would have made it into Monsta X, no question about it.
right!! it's basic common sense, I can't believe im got hate for ''replacing'' gun when mx debuted. obviously a show would want more diversity in a group, instead of 2 rappers with identical tones and styles, people should learn how to think logically before sending unnecessary hate.
Dont downplay #Gun, he imho is also a beast. He was just so similar to Jooheon and they simply prefered Jooheon over him for their own reason, and needed diversity in their rap line.
Errr... Actually you had a point there. Gun also has power and energy, but I think the execs thought they’d both explode onstage. They needed someone who can complement Jooheon’s fiery rap vibe. And I think what they saw in I.M. was the toned down version but with overflowing swag and angst. At least, that’s what I think... I’ve been listening to IM how he simply jives in with Jooheon’s style. And there’s something in him that really adds icing on the top.

This episode killed me :'( if i was I.M , I would have already started crying the moment he was getting dirty looks and mean comments from the other trainees. I understand how they felt due to losing Minkyun, but it still hurt my heart that it was just so hard to watch.

I know that this was aired almost three years ago and that the guys' attitudes have changed, but it keeps hurting every time they dissed or played dirty on Changkyun. I get he was new and that Minkyun was eliminated, but they just needed to be a little kind when he came over all of sudden... They didn't even say hello to him after Changkyun finished his introduction! For me, it hurts that Minhyuk, specially, had this type of attitude towards him, saying that he's not going to be his friend nor to talk to him... Both of them are my biases now and I can't truly believe this was just three years ago.
Wow. I.M was introduced so cruelly. I've seen people mention this, but dang. Didn't know it was done like that. I cried when Jooheon finally talked to him and I.M teared up. Poor baby. I would have broken down quickly from everyone ignoring me. That prank they pulled scared the crap outta me though I was wondering if it was a joke since I'd never think they would get mad at each other like that.

I can see why Shownu is a great leader. at 10:27 he's telling the rest of the guys not to blame I.M and asking the person closest in age (as per Korean culture) to show I.M around the dorm. It was an emotional journey for these young guys - but after watching so many MX clips, I really get the sense that they are a remarkably close knit team now.
I know this was a while ago, but seeing this really grinds my gears. Poor I.M, it's not his fault he joined late. He's such a strong person. He looked like a mean person when I first checked out Monsta X, but seeing this made me realize that he wasn't. I'm glad he's in the group. 😭 Ugh, my hearteu.

I felt so uncomfortable just watching I.M stand around like that that unwelcomed and feeling out of place. I have too many days where I feel just the same as he is and I could practically tell what he was thinking.
I felt uncomfortable for him for the fact that anyone of them would have jumped at the chance like he did, they're all there because they wanted to debut, I personally think I.M was brave to put himself in that situation and sticking it out.

i felt like dying of awkwardness from that scene when they first met him, i felt sooooo bad for IM i get why they're upset but they have to remember they would do EXACTLY the same thing in his situation - he had the opportunity to debut and he took it. I'm not denying them their emotions because its completely understandable but i wish at least one of them had been the better person and been nice to him, even if they were faking it.

Finally had the courage to watch this. My bias I.M. fighting! This also proves how strong-willed I.M. is and how mature he is for his age facing all this--- which brought himself to debut!!! You deserve that spot!
I.M. is the reason why I started liking monsta x. I mean he's such a great rapper, and imagine being on his shoes i'd just shout at their faces but seeing him being strong and being nice proves that he's really brave and kind :)

To me it sounded like Wonho simply stated a fact. I don't think he was mean. In fact, i liked his reaction. While everyone was giving I.M. the cold shoulder and weren't talking to him, he explained why they were reacting they way they did, like "hey bro, this is bad timing for us".
I honestly have mixed feelings about all this. I understand they were frustrated in upset, but I believe that no matter what, that's not an excuse to be so cold and unwelcoming to someone. I'm glad that they at least explained *why* they were being so cold (because otherwise, to just ignore him with no explanation would be downright cruel) but I honestly hoped that after that, they would at least make an effort to be civil. That's what really got me. I'm not saying they had to welcome him with huge smiles and open arms, but the poor kid was thrown in there at the worst time and he knew full well how they would feel about it. It really bothered me when he finally went to go sit in the living room with them and they started leaving, like even just being in his presence was horrible. But anyway, I'm not in their position so I can't truly judge. I'm just the kind of person who believes that no matter how bad your mood is, you shouldn't take it out on others.
even if it was, changkyun describing his hardships was not scripted at all, members even till now still say he was really depressed and lonely during that time and went through a lot ... and changkyun being tricked into coming was an actual thing... doesn't matter if it was scripted or not because he still went through those emotions
Minute 34: After, I.M cried, he was still so positive. This really gets to my heart because he was told all this mean stuff. I kinda understand the other trainee's anger but just like he said: anyone would take the offer if he got a chance to debut. Jooheon didn't console him, he just told him that he'll never really accept I.M and our beautiful baby still thinks so positive. I know that Monsta X all grew close, but if you take a look at videos and shows you can still see that he's a bit reserved and cautious in his actions.
he has always been like that, that's his personality, i saw some videos pre-debut of him, with his previous group, he didn't talk much, he didn't appear much in front of the camera and when he did he was embarrased, actually he's 10000 times better with Monsta X members
I think you're right about him being reserved (like others have said Changkyun woulda gotten 120481 types of trauma from this type of situation lmao or at least I would kkkkk) but I also agree with others that say it's his personality. I hope they're all seriously one another's best friends because that can make a difference in your music. Anyway here's to Monsta X growing more and more in the future ^^
Jooheon was the first one to open up though. And he even encouraged him and gave him advice to do his best by saying that all he needs to do is work harder and overcome everything because in the end all that matters is debuting. He was trying to make I.M. stronger and in the end of this show, you can see that he hugged I.M. and was like "You did it,bro! You overcame that!"

Wow, I should've watched this when I first started stanning Monsta X. I have a whole new perspective towards I.M. Like I would be upset to at first but I'd at least talk to him. The Trainee's were so cruel towards him, it was a bit over the top. & while everyone was kicking him while he was down, he just kept getting up and trying which I respect the hell out of. He might be my new Bias.

Just my opinion but I felt that the trainees were cruel not really because they wanted to or what~ but more of because the timing was pretty much bad and they lost Minkyun like I admit I would be a little uncomfortable as well if a newbie just join in when the show was already half way done~ no hates tho of course I agree with you about I.M being strong so there's no right or wrong between any of them as I felt that the trainees do sort of have the rights to be upset BUT people can't blame I.M as well as he was given the chance to debut knowing that it's gonna be a harsh reality slap to his face which I really admire him too a lot for his how should I put it? Bravery and guts to face the harshness and still standing tall. Many people had the misconception that I.M was freeloading off them and thought that he was given the easy way but I do not see it that way and I'm glad you voiced out your opinion. But also the thing is although the trainees were cruel they still tried to open up to him, for example when Jooheon said that I.M is still part of the team after or when Kihyun told him to sit at the living room with the others, you can sort of tell that they're trying their best not to hate but they can't help it because they have trained together for quite some time without I.M and then slowly losing their close friends by elimination and then suddenly a new member comes in and in a way it feels like he's a replacement therefore they feel a hint of betrayal from K.Will. When I first watched No Mercy I can totally relate to I.M as I was a transferred student in my new school and my own classmates discriminates me just because they felt that I don't suit to be there or I'm not up to their standards, but I never really blame them because I know it's not easy for them to accept a new student in their class since they have never had a new student before. So they will be like why our class? Why us? You know? But sadly for me I was never able to get along with them since I was only there for a year before graduating middle school, and I am very glad that it is not the case for I.M as all the Monsta X members now really love their adorable maknae and Jooheon now can't be separated from I.M and that's really adorable

I thought the fight scene was real up until the moment that Hyungwon pulled him aside and the others didn't go to break them up quicker. Only because, while I believe he could be scrappy, we all know that Hyungwon is an adorable string bean- Gun would have totally flipped him if they were in a real fight. Regardless, they totally sold that moment.

Honestly I was disappointed when Minhyuk said that ! Because I really like him!! I think it's okay not to be fond of IM at first sight because of what happened but no one deserves to just be ignored and be treated like that even though you don't know that person yet! I remember predebut when GUN got eliminated so many fans said they won't support MONSTA X and blamed I.M. u know what? I.M is the best thing that happened for this group
welp gun should've done better then, it's all about skills and style when it comes down to it.. most of the time i felt like gun just tried imitating jooheon which made their styles very similar, and that's probably why the show needed a new rapper trainee to add more diversity. gun is great by himself tho, and I'm glad he debuted as a solo later on
This made me like I.M. Even more. It's sad to see the team react that way to his arrival but honestly I probably would've reacted the same way. So happy with who there are now

I'm new to Monsta X. Their latest comeback caught my attention and it was I.M that makes me curious and watch this show. Just to found he comes 7 episodes later and being hated T.T No Mercy indeed

although jooheon was the first member of monsta x to formally open up to changkyun (yoonho was opened up somewhat as well), i feel like hoseok and kihyun were the first ones to speak to him in a polite manner. their words had no bite and they tried to rationally explain why the trainees would have a hard time accepting him, and i think that's worth a lot of praise because they were all shoved into a hard spot. the actions and feelings of the trainees are understandable-and honestly i would have reacted in a similar manner-so i think it's really remarkable that hoseok and kihyun were able to stay professional and mature, even if it was just for the show.

It was speculated that the reason the producers brought I.M. in during the middle of the show was that at this point, the execs were pretty set on Jooheon debuting as the main rapper, but neither #Gun nor Yoonho's rap styles complemented Jooheon's in the way they wanted. I.M. had been scouted by Starship earlier in 2014 after the pre-debut group he was part of in another company disbanded, but he likely became a Starship trainee after No Mercy had already begun marketing and pre-production, so he wasn't included in the initial lineup. However, when the execs decided that the two other rappers in the show didn't measure up to Jooheon, they brought I.M. in to test how his rap skills held up to Jooheon's. And sure enough, he was exactly the second rapper they were looking for.
The way they introduced I.M. to the other trainees, though, was awful. They didn't tell him he would be joining the show, and they purposely had him meet the trainees in the most awkward and ill-timed circumstances possible. But let's be real... even if I.M. had started on the show from the beginning, he still would have made it into Monsta X, no question about it.

Errr... Actually you had a point there. Gun also has power and energy, but I think the execs thought they’d both explode onstage. They needed someone who can complement Jooheon’s fiery rap vibe. And I think what they saw in I.M. was the toned down version but with overflowing swag and angst. At least, that’s what I think... I’ve been listening to IM how he simply jives in with Jooheon’s style. And there’s something in him that really adds icing on the top.

I know that this was aired almost three years ago and that the guys' attitudes have changed, but it keeps hurting every time they dissed or played dirty on Changkyun. I get he was new and that Minkyun was eliminated, but they just needed to be a little kind when he came over all of sudden... They didn't even say hello to him after Changkyun finished his introduction! For me, it hurts that Minhyuk, specially, had this type of attitude towards him, saying that he's not going to be his friend nor to talk to him... Both of them are my biases now and I can't truly believe this was just three years ago.

I would have broken down quickly from everyone ignoring me. I can see why Shownu is a great leader. at 10:27 he's telling the rest of the guys not to blame I.M and asking the person closest in age (as per Korean culture) to show I.M around the dorm. It was an emotional journey for these young guys - but after watching so many MX clips, I really get the sense that they are a remarkably close knit team now.

To me it sounded like Wonho simply stated a fact. I don't think he was mean. In fact, i liked his reaction. While everyone was giving I.M. the cold shoulder and weren't talking to him, he explained why they were reacting they way they did, like "hey bro, this is bad timing for us".

I honestly have mixed feelings about all this. I understand they were frustrated in upset, but I believe that no matter what, that's not an excuse to be so cold and unwelcoming to someone. I'm glad that they at least explained *why* they were being so cold (because otherwise, to just ignore him with no explanation would be downright cruel) but I honestly hoped that after that, they would at least make an effort to be civil. That's what really got me. I'm not saying they had to welcome him with huge smiles and open arms, but the poor kid was thrown in there at the worst time and he knew full well how they would feel about it. It really bothered me when he finally went to go sit in the living room with them and they started leaving, like even just being in his presence was horrible.
But anyway, I'm not in their position so I can't truly judge. I'm just the kind of person who believes that no matter how bad your mood is, you shouldn't take it out on others.

Minute 34: After, I.M cried, he was still so positive. This really gets to my heart because he was told all this mean stuff. I kinda understand the other trainee's anger but just like he said: anyone would take the offer if he got a chance to debut. Jooheon didn't console him, he just told him that he'll never really accept I.M and our beautiful baby still thinks so positive. I know that Monsta X all grew close, but if you take a look at videos and shows you can still see that he's a bit reserved and cautious in his actions.
Totally fell in love with him more. I felt so sad, maybe it's because my personality is a bit like his. I'm glad he's positive.

Jooheon was the first one to open up though. And he even encouraged him and gave him advice to do his best by saying that all he needs to do is work harder and overcome everything because in the end all that matters is debuting. He was trying to make I.M. stronger and in the end of this show, you can see that he hugged I.M. and was like "You did it,bro! You overcame that!"

Wow, I should've watched this when I first started stanning Monsta X. I have a whole new perspective towards I.M. Like I would be upset to at first but I'd at least talk to him. The Trainee's were so cruel towards him, it was a bit over the top. & while everyone was kicking him while he was down, he just kept getting up and trying which I respect the hell out of. He might be my new Bias.
Like if anything, they should be pissed at K.Will for bringing him in so late.

Just my opinion but I felt that the trainees were cruel not really because they wanted to or what~ but more of because the timing was pretty much bad and they lost Minkyun like I admit I would be a little uncomfortable as well if a newbie just join in when the show was already half way done~ no hates tho of course I agree with you about I.M being strong so there's no right or wrong between any of them as I felt that the trainees do sort of have the rights to be upset BUT people can't blame I.M as well as he was given the chance to debut knowing that it's gonna be a harsh reality slap to his face which I really admire him too a lot for his how should I put it? Bravery and guts to face the harshness and still standing tall. Many people had the misconception that I.M was freeloading off them and thought that he was given the easy way but I do not see it that way and I'm glad you voiced out your opinion. But also the thing is although the trainees were cruel they still tried to open up to him, for example when Jooheon said that I.M is still part of the team after or when Kihyun told him to sit at the living room with the others, you can sort of tell that they're trying their best not to hate but they can't help it because they have trained together for quite some time without I.M and then slowly losing their close friends by elimination and then suddenly a new member comes in and in a way it feels like he's a replacement therefore they feel a hint of betrayal from K.Will. When I first watched No Mercy I can totally relate to I.M as I was a transferred student in my new school and my own classmates discriminates me just because they felt that I don't suit to be there or I'm not up to their standards, but I never really blame them because I know it's not easy for them to accept a new student in their class since they have never had a new student before. So they will be like why our class? Why us? You know? But sadly for me I was never able to get along with them since I was only there for a year before graduating middle school, and I am very glad that it is not the case for I.M as all the Monsta X members now really love their adorable maknae and Jooheon now can't be separated from I.M and that's really adorable

I thought the fight scene was real up until the moment that Hyungwon pulled him aside and the others didn't go to break them up quicker. Only because, while I believe he could be scrappy, we all know that Hyungwon is an adorable string bean- Gun would have totally flipped him if they were in a real fight. Regardless, they totally sold that moment.

Honestly I was disappointed when Minhyuk said that ! Because I really like him!! I think it's okay not to be fond of IM at first sight because of what happened but no one deserves to just be ignored and be treated like that even though you don't know that person yet!

welp gun should've done better then, it's all about skills and style when it comes down to it.. most of the time i felt like gun just tried imitating jooheon which made their styles very similar, and that's probably why the show needed a new rapper trainee to add more diversity.

although jooheon was the first member of monsta x to formally open up to changkyun (yoonho was opened up somewhat as well), i feel like hoseok and kihyun were the first ones to speak to him in a polite manner. their words had no bite and they tried to rationally explain why the trainees would have a hard time accepting him, and i think that's worth a lot of praise because they were all shoved into a hard spot. the actions and feelings of the trainees are understandable-and honestly i would have reacted in a similar manner-so i think it's really remarkable that hoseok and kihyun were able to stay professional and mature, even if it was just for the show.
