Aiming the index finger at the pinky knuckle, as well as not dropping the pistol to insert the mag. After a few reps I can tell it's superior to the way I usually reload.

Been watching The Humble Marksman for a long time but for whatever reason, just now encountering the full Shoot Like a Boss series. Great stuff and just what I needed at this point in my journey.
Good stuff man. I actually take big steps when reloading. I never really have problems with hand speed though so it works. My biggest reload gains came after I started keeping the muzzle pointed at the target AMAP. Just rolling over a little. More consistent at top speed now by far.
one thing I learned from my instructor was to flick your mag towards your left side because once the mag is out, the magwell is already there readily in position to insert a mag. Another thing is from Paul Harrell, and that is eyes on the target whilst doing a reload, but you have to practice a lot, once you nail it and it becomes second nature you are all set.
The mag flicking is slower. Just let gravity do it's thing. You'll take tenths off your reloads. Plus your moving reloads will be much easier. Eyes on the target stuff is okay, sorta, in self defense... Maybe. Looking down at the magwell ensures a fast and clean reload. Even in a self defense situation you aren't blind to the threat. They just go from your focus to your periphery to your focus again during the reload.
I want to see the thing I hate the worst, unloaded table start with all mags on the table. I’m not gonna start my carry optics competing until after Area 1, so I am working on production mainly so that belt has 5 pouches and I almost always go with 4 given up here table starts are usually on the higher round count stages. Would love to see you cover that taking the low-cap divisions in mind.

For IDPA - they don't matter that much - I did a video on the Ghost Civilian rig - they're pretty affordable. There's pretty basic criteria for IDPA gear. I do quite like my modified 360 pouches from them (used electrical tape) - can unmount gear from the belt super easy and they're pretty fast to draw from and stand a bit off the belt to allow for ye olde love handle.

Keeping an eye on the target from a practical shooting context does nothing for you - if your bio mechanics are better keeping the magwell higher - go for it. The closer to shooting position you can keep it the more efficient it will be. Finger goes back onto trigger when reacquiring sight on target. Emergency reload is roughly the same but after dumping mag strong hand thumb goes to slide release and waits for locking mag in.
A question on technique. I notice most your reloads are before the magazine is empty - you are great at higher mathematics as I can never keep count. For those of us who rely on the low round indicator of Slide Locking back, after the reload is Over the Top any better than Slide Release? SR would seem much more efficient, but there are a mass of Gun Range GooRoos who insist that slide Release destroys the gun…. Your thoughts?
That's nonsense - mostly. Modern guns are designed for it to function that way. The slide is usually harder steel than the stamped piece of the slide release - if anything - it destroys slide releases - not slides. Through living in ATL I was friends with a Glock engineer - he told me point blank the way the gun was designed was for slide release. On a 1911 where the slide release is tool steel and as hard as the slide - there is validity there - but most modern service guns are designed for the slide release to release the slide.
These are not the reloads I wanted to see, but likely the reloads I needed to see. I like a 124gr plated on top of 4.5gr Universal, makes 132 power factor according to GRT - you?
@@TheHumbleMarksman Look at 5:20 and the orientation of your mag. It is pointing forwards. By twisting the mag to 75 degrees aren’t you introducing inefficiency? Also, with the new USPSA rule changes, will you be moving your mags further forwards?
May I ask, concerning magazine plus two extensions for a primary concealed carry mag. Will, say a plus two taran tactical have better reliability if downloaded by one? I want to carry my plus extension on my g43 but I want better liability and if that means downloading by one then I’m 100% fine with that
So it's how much upward pressure the magazine is putting on the slide. If your stated capacity with the base pad is 19+1 or whatever and you can slam the magazine into the magwell and it locks in and hand cycling the slide doesn't feel too bad - shooting it doesn't lead to any feeding issues - you may be OK going to stated capacity. If it's too tight for slide to cycle appropriately then download. This may vary from mag extension and spring to the next.
Try to roll in your finger and press it with the joint. Avoid extended mag releases. There are lots of lefties who even go back to left side mag release cause they got so used to it.
Turn the gun in your hand a bit and hit the mag release with your shooting index finger. Reload and while putting your support hand back on the gun rotate it back to that good shooting grip. If your hands are flexible enough you can pull this off without rotating the gun in hand.

Great video as always. I painted a white line on the inside bottom of the mag well. That helps me focusing on the mag well when I insert the mag.

Your hand speed is absurd
At my range, you cannot allow the muzzle to point above the berm, so you have to pay careful attention to keeping the muzzle flat. Great video!
I shot a match at a club with this rule for the first time this month, I was terrified of screwing up and getting kicked out lol

Both are not good advice - not to sound bossy- but one is useless frenetic motion and the other isn’t used in competition or mil/Leo shooting anymore

Finger tip to pinky best tip I have herd, however it all gets much easier with an aftermarket magwell to suck up you mag replacement/reload.

Adjust your grip to hit the mag release then immediately start to rebuild - or use your support hand to hit the button

Because it’s the fastest way to reload and no viable defensive trainers will tell you to look at the target anymore
