Nice one (again)! Two additions: there is the KCP, where users contribute packages to KaOS and there is a clear description on their site on how to enable and use flatpak. So all application woes (if any) can be tackled easily.
Avidmux is a remuxing tool that allows converting one video container type like .mov to another like. mp4. It also does a great job cutting and splicing video from the same stream. One downside is that it can't splice videos from two different streams unless they are identical I spec. It can also examine the audio container type such as ACC for example and I believe you can strip the audio out with it. It doesn't have as many functions as video editor but on the items that it addresses it does extremely well. Proper use case would be scrubbing security tape video and cutting out the relevant pieces.
illumos ( based on Free software implementation of the Solaris kernel ) is a Unix operating system which provides next-generation features for downstream distributions, including advanced system debugging, next generation filesystem, networking, and virtualization options.
Forgive me for being pedantic, but despite how they brand themselves, illumos is _NOT_ itself an operating system. Similar to linux, it provides operating system components (such as the kernel and the filesystem) for distributions like OpenIndiana.
KaOS - A Distro With a Goal...Is the goal to SOW CHAOS in the hellish landscape that is the myriad of choices in Linux distributions??? Sorry, could not help it:-) Very interesting distro, will be trying it out for sure. Nice coverage of this distro Tom, thanks for your work.
I like this kind of focus. How can a single developper or 2-3 guys with full time jobs maintain distros with 5-6 desktop environments ? The results are usually awful and buggy. That is why like Nobara or Cachy OS too, now with a clear focus on KDE and to lsesser extent Gnome. Same for Solus with Budgie.
Nice Video, very good subject, looked it up, and was not able to identify any development team details behind the project, also wonder Falkon might not have development support any more ? Thank you.
I tried to install KaOS on 4 separate computers, Alienware m15R6 (2022), Dell Studio XPS desktop i7 16GB ram (2010) an Alienware 15 R2 (2015), Asus Rog Strix 16 (2024) and could not get past the boot screen due to kernel panic on all of them..... 🙄 Secure boot was off, AHCI was enabled, etc Nice informative vid!

Interesting look, might check that out before I wonder back over to Arch land.

Thank you for the video....❤
Nice video mate. Never disappointed 😊
The llumos kernel is what open Solaris uses. Croeso is the welcome app and means welcome in Welsh.

For the screen settings on the configuration page select scaled by system. Then select your desired resolution.
They do have flatpak to supplement software with. Although you need to enable flathub yourself.
I like that they have the spine to just say "no"
THAT looks interesting. I think I'll try that-- I fit the GOAL they're talking about... :) (unusual for ME to fit anything!! ha.)

So better kde neon or kubuntu, but not based on ubuntu, with a smaller but higher quality selection of curated packages?
What about flatpak???
great distro
Atrocious non-scrollbars in start menu and task manager?
Croeso is Welsh for welcome.
LXQT COULD BE THE BEST DE EVER...BUT....
