This film gets a bad reputation, but I think it's one of the most endearing sequels I've ever seen. Instead of repeating the original film, it actually continues the character's journey.
Fully agree, i couldn't wish for a better sequel. The sad story, the music, the cast, the nostalgia, the humor, and the whole pacing.... In my eyes an masterpiece that doesn't get bored after watched multiple times.
This film was fucking shit, read the book, this film is not in the same spirit whatsoever. It's literally just a bunch of washed-out losers sat around masturbating over their shit memories, with none of the energy, enterprise or scheming of the characters in the book (those characters that they didn't decide to cut from it... where the fuck is Nikki or Juice Terry??) literally a bag of shit that's been set on fire and left in your fridge to poison your food.
Trainspotting 2 really is an amazing sequel having a great balance of nostalgia while forwarding the characters and filling out what had occurred in their lives, much better than what I expected it to be. Terminator 2 was not too shabby either.
It brings closure, which to me is what the characters needed, it was more a necessity for them to get through their past lives. Though it shows that the past doesn’t die, it stays with you forever.
I, as well think of the second trainspotting movie as one of the most excellent sequels that I deeply love and admire. Terminator 2 is also great lmao.
I was 24 when Trainspotting came out. 46 when T2 came out. The first one was about being young, ambitious, carefree, full of ourselves, and stupid. T2 is about growing up and finally becoming a man faced with becoming irrelevant in a world that values youth over experience. I actually teared up in the theater a few times viewing T2. It's what I feel about getting older, and what my relationship is towards my younger self. I want a T3 but not for another 15 years. I want a third movie that closes all the story lines and arcs. A trilogy about my generation made over a generation. I'd love that. Only one other possible trilogy would illicit such an emotional response out of me: Clerks III...... I can understand why many Millennials and Gen-Z kids didn't like this movie as much. They simply weren't around in the early-mid '90's. They will inevitably have movies and trilogies of their own. In Renton's updated "Choose Life" speech at the restaurant with Veronika, he wasn't talking to her, he was talking to her generation. It was both a warning, and a criticism...
I'm not sure how these guys are "running out of time" at...45 years old...unless it's in the context of people who don't have their shit together in life, I suppose. But what is that, exactly? That's also what the film wants us to ask.
I was 19 when Trainspotting came out. That soundtrack, mentality, era of music was what I was very into at that time. Now in my early 40s watching the sequel, I too teared up at various parts. Its hard not to relate to the characters aspects in many ways and that "choose life" speech is so fucking on point it hurts.
Bob Star: What I particularly loved about the movie are the various "memory flashes" from the first movie that came on screen for a second or two. Also the club scene. Its two middle aged guys who are completely out of place and out of time surrounded by people they haven't been in 20+ years. Renton is clearly uncomfortable. That's exactly how I felt the last time I let someone drag me to a club. The music is immortal, and the youth dance to it all the same believing they are immortal just like Renton and Simon did when they were young. I actually started to cry at the updated "Choose Life" speech. It's everything I feel about getting older and not exactly getting what I always hoped for. In 15 odd years I want to see a third "Choose Life" speech that illustrates who we will be. I will be 60-65.
Nailed it. A much better and more mature sequel than we had any right to expect. I think the title put a lot of people off, sadly. But I hope people discover it in due time.
yes, I don't think the title helped. Though I did hear Danny Boyle say that one of the reasons for it was that, he imagined the characters themselves would think it was cool, as they would big Terminator 2 fans...!
I liked the idea behind the title, but when you have to constantly explain it in press interviews because nobody understands it, then the title may have been a little too obscure. But that's a nitpick; it's just a title, after all.
And in fairness, the alternative titled was The Unexpected Familiar, which is a thousand times worse. I generally just call it Trainspotting 2 when I tell others about it.
It really is, and to anyone who disagrees I would highly recommend re-watching it, as it changed my entire view of the film from mediocre to being up there with the original and being one of the greatest sequels I've ever seen (and let's face it, a good sequel is a rarity).
They hit the nail on the head waiting so long to release the sequel. It allowed the original audience to mature and grow so that they can feel better connected to the characters through the nostalgia of the first film while introducing the two films to a younger generation
I resemble that comment. It's strange, when I first saw Trainspotting I thought Begby was an absolutely irredeemable psycho. When I watched T2, I connected the hardest to Begby's character. Especially in his last conversation with his son. Tears were shed in that scene, I'm not ashamed to admit. I'm not saying Begby isn't a psycho, but I am saying that I didn't understand what maked him a psycho until T2. Maybe all that is in the books...I dunno. I own them all and have tried reading them, but reading Scottish dialect as an American is very difficult. For me at least. That said, the movies hold a very special place for me.
Let's not forget that T2 isn't an adaptation of Porno. It takes some elements from it and Trainspotting, but Boyle said that Porno wasn't that great of a book and was basically inferior to Trainspotting, hence the huge changes from the books sequel to the film. Boyle didn't want a Porno adaptation, he wanted a film of where the characters are 20 years later and trying to recapture their youth in their middle age, as you said in the video. Great video man.
i agree Jared, and hopefully flagged up in the video the significant changes from Welsh's book. i guess that's one of the main points I'm trying to make - Boyle, Hodge & co used Porno as a starting point to then explore their own issues and anxieties about getting older, and, for me, made something so much richer. and glad you liked the video!
T2 takes a lot of stuff from Porno, but it's not really a faithful adaptation of that book, but then neither was Trainspotting either. The Trainspotting novel was very different from the movie, and I don't think a 100% faithful adaptation of that book would have worked for a film.
Porno was a really disappointing read compared to Trainspotting, and I am really glad that they redeveloped the story for T2 as it is clearly superior to the book Porno.
It's interesting because the film T2 is about middle aged men trying to recapture their youth while Porno is about men rapidly approaching middle age and attempting to preserve their youth.
Porno was a GREAT book, even better than Trainspotting. To me it was just that Boyle didn't want a movie concentraded on shooting a pornographic picture, even if he doesn't admit that. T2 was great nevertherless.
I wasn’t born yet when the first Trainspotting came out, yet I still connect to it so dearly. A lot of the comments talk about how the kids that don’t like the sequel film just don’t understand the meaning of it yet and things along those lines, but I think the problem is that they do, and they’re scared that they’re living their own Trainspotting, just waiting for T2 to roll around.
Glory days are mostly a retrospective thing. You don't go around thinking 'these are the best days of my life' when you're young. Most of the time you're bored. Life just seems normal to you, everyday stuff, school, meeting friends, etc. It's when you're older, past 30 or whatever, that you look back at your youth and think of those days as the best part of your life. I had mental health issues when I was in my teens and early twenties, I took a lot of drugs, had some horrible experiences but I still miss those days. I'm still friends with the people who were important to me back then but it's different when you're older. When you're young, it's you and your friends against the world, you do everything together, you share almost everything. Nowadays we meet up and share some moments while our daily lives are separate. You'll never get that feeling back and you don't fully realize it until it's gone.
I feel like T2 never quite achieved the heights of the original Trainspotting. It's never quite as good. And... I kind of feel like that's the point of the film. Much like the characters, T2 looks back at a glorious past it can never achieve. It's the perfect sequel to Trainspotting in that, it never surpasses Trainspotting, but it knows it and accepts it.
Let’s not forget that we’re talking about a film about heroin addicts (train spotting) a few of the standards of a great film are tension, drama, stakes... when are the stakes higher than life or death? Overdose or rehabilitation. I don’t think it’s never as good, it’s about a different set of men, and I think, (especially in light of the fact that most of the negative reviews were that it was some weird nostalgic pastiche of the first film), that if it had, in some hypothetical universe, come come out as a stand-alone film without the first one’s shadow looming, it would be considered at the very least a Great film, if not its own masterpiece. (Obviously I’m this hypothetical, certain context clues of the first film would have been edited in or out depending on what made sense, but we’re talkin like ten minutes of footage so regardless).
@@wilsonwijaya.design the second part of my reply is based upon some of the reviews I saw after watching it, which are talking about it in a bad light in large part because of the comparison to the first film. I agree with you but my point was that those same critics wouldn't be tearing it up if it had (somehow) come out without the original to compare it to.
T1 was more of a culture arthouse film sort of. Exploring a particular scene in the early 90s and the realities behind it. T2 digs deeper in many ways, some of the realities hit you harder such as triumph and tragedy. The theme to live a better life remains though .
Trainspotting and T2 are both absolute cinematic greatness. As someone who grew up in Scotland, it has the nostalgic feel that all us Scots have with our teenage years and how growing up it all changes and the way Boyle did it is just amazing. Absolute brilliance, and my absolute favourite films of all time as the run in parallels. Easily the best sequel to a film ever.
That was well done, I'm glad someone understood the movie, even more so than I did. The American critics didn't, and I don't know why. Trainspotting is a part of modern cinema and its sequel created something uniquely beautiful.
I spent the first 20 mins of this movie laughing out loud; it was like meeting up with old friends I hadn't seen in years. However, watching it in a movie theatre in Spain I knew I was the only Scottish person in the room. Everyone else was looking round at me thinking "what's so funny "? And it's hard to explain why it is sooo funny. And also so sad. In my opinion, one of the best movie sequels ever made. And that's what blows me away!
*“T2: Trainspotting”* is a superb sequel that to me is just as good if not better than the first. The cinematography and soundtrack is absolutely brilliant beyond words. The acting was so award worthy that I punched a wall when it didn’t get signal nomination.
A very well articulated breakdown of the film. When T2 press started to be released, excitement soon gave way to fear, fear that as a person similar in age to the the films protagonists I would go through a similar feeling to watching ‘the worlds end’ a film that filled me with regret and anger at some of my life’s choices. Far from it! T2 gave me hope, that while we all try to hark back to a time when youth was our greatest quality and yet wasted on us, we recklessly disregard it, and as slips away we become like drowning men despairingly trying to hang on to it. It reduced me to tears so many times and nuggets from the original sprinkled across the screen and from the speakers. It essence it was pure cinema indulgence story telling and I left the screen feeling ultimately up lifted, you can’t change the past, it is that which makes you the person you are and will continue to be, but if you learn from it, it allows that person to grow, rather than it define you.
I found it deeply moving .It brought back childhood memories of my own...not that my life was like that, but as ive got older, theres that wistfulness of looking back and realising that, when we were young , we had no idea that time would pass in the blink of an eye. Great review.Thanks.
You summed the T2 experience nicely. I hope that if a T3 is done (hopefully 15 years or so from now) that it carries the same weight that T2 did. Tnanks for posting this video.
I was 26 when it was released, 48 when T2 came out. I must be the only person who could not watch the whole of the first one - although I loved the music, filming, actors etc I could not watch heroin use like this and as soon as I saw the baby first crawling on the floor I knew what was coming and couldn't watch more. I knew I had to see the second one after I saw the trailer so I finally watched the whole of the first one... and sure enough felt traumatised by it. It did feel gratuitous to me, but yeah, the baby dying scene was so awful. But, the second one blew me away with how beautifully done it was, how mature. I really related being in my later 40's. (And I've known plenty of recovering addicts). Ewen Bremner/Spud just got me completely in this movie. So much more hope. So many great scenes and more great music, and of course the Prodg remix is amazing. I absolutely loved it. I've watched it maybe 6 times, after seeing it in the cinema, and finally bought it so I could see the extras etc. And yeah I even went to Edinburgh when I went to the UK earlier this year...fucking amazing. Thanks so much Danny and all you guys. You completely floored me with this. And I'm not someone who had an amazing relationship with the first one (except for the soundtrack...!)
T2 is such an underrated film. I don't think audiences really understood it, and the movie suffers for that. This review really gets the film perfectly!
Trainspotting is my favorite movie of all time. As an addict in recovery even after years I still feel like I relate to the movie so much. Even though I live in America they really did a great job telling the story of heroin addiction and where it can put you in life and what it can put you through. I’m a huge fan of the second movie. I thought it was great. Reminded me of my friend group, we all got older, got sober but are in our late 20s and early 30s still struggling to find an identity. Struggling to find a way in the real world. It’s very good. So accurate to real life. Irvine welsh is a story telling genius
To appreciate what a marvellously clever film T2 was, just put yourself in a position to come up with a story and a character development that is a continuation of the first one but with all the characters 20 years older. Of a movie that is universally adored and loved with people feeling strongly about it. And are sentimentally attached as the experience of watching the first movie coincides with their youth and hey-deys. God ahead. it is daunting.
T2 did exactly what I wanted it to do, showing what age and experience has done to our characters. Much has changed, and much has not. Rather than being a rehash of the first movie, it continues our characters’ development. Will be remembered for years to come.!
I watched the original movie with my father only the year before T2 came out. And I'll be honest, watching T2 with him after it came out was really fun. It's rare to see such a well made sequel to a movie as iconic to those who lived when it was released. And this video did help me appreciate it more. Thanks.
Great video! You pointed a lot of things that happened in the sequel that flew right over my head even though I’ve seen the first multiple times. Thank you!
one of the few sequels to a classic that's actually about nostalgia and simultaneously letting go of and embracing the past instead of just using nostalgia to manipulate the audience
T2 was a masterpiece. The 1st one was so good and you at the end couldn't help but wonder what would happen to these people in the future. T2 filled that void
T2 massively resonated with me. Life flies past, then gives you a shock when you reach 50. How did I get this old without realising?? "Time moves on, we don't"
CHOOSE LIFE is definitely something I can relate too, Trainspoting and T2 trainspoting are unique in a way most people will never understand or have a clue about, they both have been favorite movies to me, I'm glad they made T2 because it felt so right as closure to what happened to all of them.
Great analysis! I LOVED Trainspotting when it came out, I think it spoke to A LOT of people, from all walks of life... So when T2 came out, I was both sceptical and excited. I wanted to see if the life of Danny Boyle's "characters" played out the way I had always thought (I wasn't disappointed). I thought it was well written, well acted, and emotionally fulfilling, as someone who's lived life like the characters...but who knows where I'm gonna end up? ;) Quality video, mate. Cheers.
thanks Maria, that's really good to hear. Like you, I think I had a very personal reaction to the film and it definitely speaks to people who have grown up with both films. really appreciate your comment!
Great analysis. T2 is a rarity...in it is a brilliant sequel-and most sequels rarely live up to their first film. I found T2 emotionally draining, brilliantly observed and fantastically made. Also features some of the best cinematography I have ever seen.
im from edinburgh, not far from a lot of the scenes and no longer live in Scotland or the uk. the squeal hit me with heavy, heavy nostalgia. i absolutely love it and every time i come back as soon as i see the trams im reminded of T2
A great video for a perfect sequel. I came to it late having only seen the original film until after I saw the sequel. However, that didn’t stop me from understanding what they were trying to achieve. It’s the perfect balance of nostalgia, narcissism and moving forward.
I remember when i read Porno back in 06.. i gotta say it wasnt the sequel i was really expecting but it was pretty ok.. watching T2, which came as a huge surprise to me, based on the time gap, i could see some elements boyle took from the book ,but i was so fucking happy it wasnt how Porno went, I mean, it had to be based 20 years later, different subjects had to be brought up.. And it went just how i imagined it should be.. Trainspotting blew my mind in 96 and 20 years later T2 did it again.
Great video! I love T2 and also the first film of course. I imagine this film really hits the mark if you were around to see the first one when it was originally released, particularly if you were about the same age as the characters. Then the nostalgic element is reflected in real life as you watch the sequel and look back at your time between the first film and this one. I can’t say as I was less than one year old when the original came out haha.
I enjoyed the film the first time I saw it, but having seen it again, I think it's fantastic! It's very funny, dark and dare I say it, heart warming. A brilliant sequel!
I found out about Trainspotting through a music video by crystal castles. They used clips from the original and as I was watching I was like “is that fucken ewan mcgregor?” As I didn’t know it was a movie, I thought it was an actual music video. So I scroll to the comments and find out the clips are from a movie called Trainspotting. So I start watching loads of clips on RUclips until I finally rented it on iTunes. Watched it last night, and I just finished T2 and I gotta say. Hands down some of my favorite movies combined. I thoroughly enjoyed T2, as well as the original.. glad I watched that music video
I watched the first when I was 14 and before I ever tried drugs. Now many years later and having experienced heroin addiction and recovery, and growing up and making a career and a life, I revisited the original and then watched the sequel. It stuck with me, that whole sarcastic “choose life” thing. Whether you’re happier living fast and soaking up pleasure or living long enough to become a yuppy. Not sure what I was expecting from T2. I guess one movie can’t be expected to have all of life’s answers. But it was cathartic to see. I loved Spud’s story. I think I’d have liked Mark and Sickboy to have turned out differently. Not sure how
I watched this, year's after the 1st Trainspotting. Was convinced, there was no way they could do the 1st one justice after all those years. ...I was wrong.. I loved it and still laughed😍🤩🤩🤩
You summed one of my best sequels ever in a 6.54 video.........I tip my hat to you good sir and may ure channel flourish on this scottish greatness.......have a sub lol
This film was offensively awful, it completely missed the mark, watered down the source material of the book "Porno" so much that this film didn't even have a plot. They turned Begbie, an actually quite complex character down into nothing but a Golum/Frankenstein's monster. It was a wet fart of nostalgia crap trying to appeal to 40 - 50 year old Facebook wankers whilst taking the bare minimum from the source material into it's plot, the book Porno, and the two books that follow that "The Blade Artist" and "Dead Man's Trowsers" perfectly wrap up the story of Trainspotting, Spud dies, Mark and Begbie become friends. They should have made this film 15 years earlier and done it as an adaption of the book it's apparently mean't to be a dramatisation of and not this dog shit.
F****** mind blowing amazing just as good as the first and I am very hopeful for a third when it come out I had no idea what to expect and yet at the same time it was as good as expectations despite the nun I had there are a lot of people who are not going to let go of the story of these characters please please do a third
The film is brilliant. Filled with regret and anger wishing you done things differently, as you realise life is too short as you only get one chance at it.
I honestly prefer T2, I think that it's stylistically stunning and it really got to me on an emotional level, despite the fact that I was only 16 when I first saw it
Fantastic video. You perfectly sum up why this movie is such an effective sequel. And I feel like Danny Boyle did the best possible thing in making a film specifically for fanatics of the first one.
It's kind of ironic that I saw Trainspotting as a memory of a time that was already gone. We revealed in a glorious death story that was never our own and other than some fake E that no one even recognized anymore the movie had no real association with our lives. Even our younger friends who really knew nothing of Heroin and looked upon the first movie as a portrait of the early 90s and their lives which Trainspotting never really was. I find that as I look back upon these characters I too shed a tear for a time that for me actually was, except all my friends who were on heroin had already died from AIDS in the 80s, but I miss them and I missed these characters. I will have more to say but I want to wait until I have seen T2 more times. I already feel that T2 is one of the best sequels I have ever seen, but I also know that the knot in my throat is one that I have felt more and more. Like I will never see those times again and one day after I have seen T2 more I will write more about it and the feelings I have.
I thought it was a brilliant film. I'm sure a ton of people thta will comment here come from a similar background, Im not in any way saying i'm unique in my experiences. I feel like Ive kinda grown wiht these characters. ( addict in recovery, 15 years clean, kids, all that) When the first film came out, I was right in the thick of it. I was 18 in 96 and had been using just over a year or so. Already a good n proper junky. Earning well with whatever scam of theft or whatrever else to get some coin and get on . Transpotting comes out and it seemed like a ( really fucking sad) portrait of my life. The second film comes out and although ( thankfully) bein a bit better off than most the old users in this film, I still kinda feel the same way they do. I watched this movie kinda nodding to myself every few minutes, a few sad smiles and a feeling that I really understood what was being said. This , in my opinion, was a spot on and well written review. A pleasure to listen to.
It was a totally unexpected masterpiece of a sequel in my opinion. Unexpected given the gap and just how iconic the first film was. I was prepared to be disappointed but absolutely loved it.
Absolutely brilliant sequel. I loved it. People when they reach a certain age become nostalgic for the “good old days” Boyle did a great job. Best film Of 2017. Great performances from all involved.
This film gets a bad reputation, but I think it's one of the most endearing sequels I've ever seen. Instead of repeating the original film, it actually continues the character's journey.
i agree. had heard very mixed things before I saw it, and found myself being really moved. and that final shot...
I agree, I loved it. It's not as iconic as the original. It's still really good.
Fully agree, i couldn't wish for a better sequel.
The sad story, the music, the cast, the nostalgia, the humor, and the whole pacing....
In my eyes an masterpiece that doesn't get bored after watched multiple times.
I do really liked it, though i think some of the deleted scenes would've made it better.

T2 is, to me, one of the best sequels ever
Marko Velimirovic if you mean Terminator 2, I agree. Trainspotting 2 is a really good sequel as well.

Totally agree. Much admiration and good wishes to a Gers fan frae a Hibby!!
Is T2 that criticised? I loved the film and idea of continuing characters' stories is amazing. Also THIS is what I call a movie. Danny is the king
You must be joking. Absolute trash
@@pabloengland4194 you're the first person I've seen criticising the film lol. it was great!

Im 20 and already feel inbetween, longing for my past glory days and lusting for life at present.
@@cabuscus Same. Our generation didnt get glory days. Im 23 and still feel like life paused at 19.
@@lukasdoofus2592 in the words of fight club - "our great wars a spiritual war, our great depression is our lives"
Agreed
Actually because of these old hags are trying to relive their youths makes the film more entertaining and kinda original.
Trainspotting is a part of modern cinema and its sequel created something uniquely beautiful.
thanks, I hope it's one of those films that gets more appreciated over time - which would be somehow quite fitting...
Completely agree. Feel like the critics missed the point.
they're americans man, they only appreciate they own culture
It’s has like an 85% rating on rotten tomatoes so that’s not true
I spent the first 20 mins of this movie laughing out loud; it was like meeting up with old friends I hadn't seen in years. However, watching it in a movie theatre in Spain I knew I was the only Scottish person in the room. Everyone else was looking round at me thinking "what's so funny "?
And it's hard to explain why it is sooo funny. And also so sad.
In my opinion, one of the best movie sequels ever made. And that's what blows me away!
I watched it in the States. I’m from the North of Ireland so was in absolute stitches during the loyalist pub scene, the yanks were silent hahah
Dude you put so much effort in your content, it bothers me you don't get many views

You’re extremely articulate in your monologue. Are you a writer, essayist, blogger?
I concur and will do my part to help matters!
Great analysis. Sequel is not talked about as much as it should be.
thanks Marco, and I agree.
This is an outstanding short watch! Thank you
This was such a beautiful retrospective. I very much needed this in my life right now. Thank you.
I was blown away by how well they did with this sequel. They really nailed it imo
Man I was so happy when I heard this sequel was in production! An amazing movie, through and through
Yes, T2 is such a phenomenal film. I can't believe it just flew under so many radars.
Irvine welsh is a story telling genius
this is one of the most emotional sequels or movies in general for me, I'm not sure how but it really impacted me and I loved what Danny Boyle did
To appreciate what a marvellously clever film T2 was, just put yourself in a position to come up with a story and a character development that is a continuation of the first one but with all the characters 20 years older. Of a movie that is universally adored and loved with people feeling strongly about it. And are sentimentally attached as the experience of watching the first movie coincides with their youth and hey-deys. God ahead. it is daunting.
i needed this flic, thank you, the first meant a lot back in the day, this was needed.
Left me speechless ....it was just exactly as it should be .... amazing film
"I've thought of a title". Absolute favourite line of the whole film. Didnt get it on first viewing. Now it brings tears of joy every time.
Thank you!
T2 was a very well crafted and respectful sequel to the original that encapsulated a 2010s version of the original characters in a great way
one of the few sequels to a classic that's actually about nostalgia and simultaneously letting go of and embracing the past instead of just using nostalgia to manipulate the audience
T2 was a masterpiece. The 1st one was so good and you at the end couldn't help but wonder what would happen to these people in the future. T2 filled that void
This is the first time I've ever watched one video from a RUclipsr and liked and subscribed right there and then. That was phenomenal.
T2 massively resonated with me. Life flies past, then gives you a shock when you reach 50. How did I get this old without realising?? "Time moves on, we don't"
The second movie was so so much more than nostalgia had double the amount of feeling than the first
What a great short audio-visual essay. This surprised me in its sophistication. Subbed.
3:31 All cinema, ultimately, is a time machine for revisiting ghosts. That hit hard.
This was so beautifully and thoughtfully made❤️
T2 is an excellent, underappreciated sequel
I thought it was well written, well acted, and emotionally fulfilling, as someone who's lived life like the characters...but who knows where I'm gonna end up? ;)
Quality video, mate. Cheers.
thanks Maria, that's really good to hear. Like you, I think I had a very personal reaction to the film and it definitely speaks to people who have grown up with both films. really appreciate your comment!
"people, from all walks of life..." I see what you did there! :D
The nostalgia and emotion this movie made me feel was amazing!
T2 is perfect, this clip perfectly sumerise that
Great analysis. T2 is a rarity...in it is a brilliant sequel-and most sequels rarely live up to their first film. I found T2 emotionally draining, brilliantly observed and fantastically made. Also features some of the best cinematography I have ever seen.
Great review. I just rewatched T2 for the first time since it came out and your analysis was spot on. Subbed.
Really well done. Going to watch Trainspotting and T2 tonight, back to back.
This was a great video essay, and a far better review than anything I've read. Well done. 💯
im from edinburgh, not far from a lot of the scenes and no longer live in Scotland or the uk. the squeal hit me with heavy, heavy nostalgia. i absolutely love it and every time i come back as soon as i see the trams im reminded of T2
A great video for a perfect sequel. I came to it late having only seen the original film until after I saw the sequel. However, that didn’t stop me from understanding what they were trying to achieve. It’s the perfect balance of nostalgia, narcissism and moving forward.
You just earnt yourself a sub for this fantastic video
great to hear, Nicholas, thanks!
Seriously awesome job man.
6:07 I found the one thing that shakes me to my core, the background music interrupted and never evolving as it is meant to.
And insightful and intelligent essay on an overlooked but genius sequel
He captured nostalgia, our nostalgia to youths glories.. And to trainspotting
I waited until now to see it and its a true gem.... it was all about nostalgia and nailed it.
Good times. Time always wins no matter where you run.
Do love both Trainspottings , made me think about life more, probably the most hard hitting films I've seen
*Kong: Skull Island and T2 Trainspotting are currently my two favorite films of 2017 (out of 144 new releases seen as of this comment). ^_^*
I stopped the video halfway and started watching this film that’s how good this video is.
You summed one of my best sequels ever in a 6.54 video.........I tip my hat to you good sir and may ure channel flourish on this scottish greatness.......have a sub lol
I can confidently say that this is my favorite sequel of all time, and the wait is the reason for that.
T2 was THE best sequel that I have ever seen.
Probably the best Fandor video yet. Good deeper analysis and well put together beautifully.
thank you, Oliver, that's high praise!
Trainspotting and T2 are both great!
Thank you for this video. ❤
F****** mind blowing amazing just as good as the first and I am very hopeful for a third when it come out I had no idea what to expect and yet at the same time it was as good as expectations despite the nun I had there are a lot of people who are not going to let go of the story of these characters please please do a third
Great review - you got the point of the movie down so well. These were my thoughts as well
Thx. I never even knew they made a follow up
The film is brilliant. Filled with regret and anger wishing you done things differently, as you realise life is too short as you only get one chance at it.
The absolute best piece on this ever. Thanks
that's very kind, thank you!
First youtubes video with asking for thinking, chewed as much as possible for everyone, rare and valuable.
Good analysis. Like when Spud writes the original novel in T2
This channel needs to be in the subscribed section of every film buff
Instantly subscribed. Thanks for the analysis. I loved this film, probably my favorite of 2017 and I'm surprised that so many have misread it.
good to hear!
T2 felt like it was a student film with a higher budget, I get that vibe from pretty much all recent Danny Boyle films.
A good video essay might be comparing SLC PUNK and PUNK'S DEAD with TRAINSPOTTING and T2, two cool punkrock films and their cool legacy sequels.
BRILLIANT video essay
Very touching review. Its really hard not to look back at the past envy our youth, and regret our decisions
Thankyou for clarifying why is was I enjoyed this film so much, I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
Fantastic analysis and editing
I thought it was a brilliant film. I'm sure a ton of people thta will comment here come from a similar background, Im not in any way saying i'm unique in my experiences.
I feel like Ive kinda grown wiht these characters. ( addict in recovery, 15 years clean, kids, all that)
When the first film came out, I was right in the thick of it.
A pleasure to listen to.
thanks for sharing your personal connection and glad you like the video, all the best.
It was a totally unexpected masterpiece of a sequel in my opinion. Unexpected given the gap and just how iconic the first film was. I was prepared to be disappointed but absolutely loved it.
i didnt even realize that he stays standing holy shit
I got the book Porno from my local library, the look I got from the librarian was priceless.
Absolutely brilliant sequel. I loved it. People when they reach a certain age become nostalgic for the “good old days” Boyle did a great job. Best film
Of 2017. Great performances from all involved.
