Intense Lateral Chain & Oblique Stretch-Outs

  • We return to the stretch-out for the final day here on the RDP advent calendar. Today we employ the intense leverage of the stretch-out to work the lateral chains.
    These lateral stretch-outs can be touched so keep the reps low around 6-8 or so. Be sure to keep your back tight and use your lats as much as possible as well. Don't let your hips bend back, so keep your hips fully extended.

    Hi, I recently discovered your channel through researching isometric training, and your videos are great, I've subbed! Your channel is really underrated, and really deserves more views. Thank you for the useful information. What's your opinion of using resistance bands for isometric training?

      Welcome and thank you for checking out my stuff!
      I like using bands as they give some feedback on how much resistance you're working with. Granted that's not fundmnetlly different than just doing isometrics with weights, but at least with bands you can really dial in the resistance with how far you stretch out the band too

    It seems this could lead to a rotator strain if you are not careful, especially if your feet slip. Is it possible to rig up some kind of spotting device?

      There should be minimal risk of your feet slipping as you want most of your weight on your hand that's doing the work.
      Still, you can test on your flooring surface with just doing a simple side plank with your hand on the floor and gently push outward to see how much support you have on your feet.

    Hey Matt, I over ate a bit the past few days for the Christmas holiday. What is a better strategy cutting back a bit during the week to compensate or just resume normal eating?

      Just jump into normal eating. A little over indulgence is no big deal and nothing to radically change your diet over. in the long run that over eating is a minor influence.

    Kneeling as a staring position? What would be full ROM? All the way overhead?

    This one is great but a tough one. Got to not go too far. Better to be a little under straight out from your shoulder than over.

      It is. I'm still dialing in the technique myself as somedays I feel a lot stronger on it than others. This video was an example of one of my weaker days on it.

      @@RedDeltaProject looked pretty good holding it. Can just tell it’s definitely working what it needs to lol. I know what you mean. Some days I can lift and really feel my strength is over the top and then some I’m like wait.. where did you go 😂 I’m 213lbs so body weight exercises really challenge me big time. But will work my muscles harder that way.
