    Nice job there... Love the wire on the spring thing.. but on putting it back together, I would of given it a light smear of grease, on the thread & runners.. it would move in and out smooth as glass.. 😉👍

    This was more a clean and repaint rather than a full blown restoration. Kudos on using primer and paint for the repaint but you lost serious points for not removing all the old paint prior to repainting. Yeah, yeah, people think it doesn't matter, those people are fools, it matters greatly. I'll give you a good effort but that's it really. Granted bad restoration is better than no restoration.

      The paint which was not removed was in areas of the vise that I didn't think it was worth spending time to remove. Anyways I am happy about the outcome. 2 years after the restoration and it still looks great! 😊👍

      Does not need to be fully removed. A simple scuff and respray will last years.

    Well, believe it or not, I was just given one of these vices! Yeah, rusty, but solid. Your video will be the bible I follow to get this back up and running. Ps, this vice I have was once used by George Daniels, the God of watch making! I shall clean it up and cherish it.

      Thanks bro! A friend of mine gave it to me. It belonged to his father who was a mechanic. It's huge and heavy! The trick with the spring and the wire I saw it on RUclips! I didn't have the proper tool for this job so I did a little research! 😊👍

    I have exactly this model vise. In exactly that same kind of rusty mess, rescued from the back of my Father-in-law's leaky old shed. I've been persevering with it for years, but now I HAVE TO do this to it. Which specific blue paint did you use?

    • @RustisGold
      @RustisGold  Год назад

      Thank you very much for your comments, sorry for the late reply...
      I just used an ordinary, but good quality, spray paint for metal surfaces.
      Before that as you saw I applied a metal primer... 😊👍

      Paragon Coach enamel is a very nice paint. The correct colour for Record tools is BS381C 110 Roundel Blue. As in the RAF Roundel blue colour. In practise Record used all sorts of other colours. I’ve heard which ever was cheapest at the time was used. I hand paint starting with a zinc phosphate primer. Two coats of enamel. I rub down between each coat and finish with a heavy duty polyurethane lacquer which I spray on. Hope that helps.

    Love this restoration! When I was a child, if I was ever in the garage with my dad, I would play with his for hours. Turning this way than that way over and over. His has round balls on it. But the same otherwise, as far as I can tell!
