To quote someone on NicoNico, "That's one hell of a genre shift for a NfN song." I kinda hope it's not permanent - It's not a bad song, I just don't usually care much for this kind of music ^_^; The theme is still there, though.

I’m aware that it’s been 10 years since this series’ release, but I think I can piece together the story somehow. Just bear with me cause my explanation is kinda messy and ridiculously long 😭
Miku and Gumi have a history of past lives, all going through similar experiences. In Flower of Blood Gumi is a warrior fighting in an endless battle, but she doesn’t exactly know what she’s fighting for and does so until her last breath. She’s then reincarnated into the Gumi from 0(+1) who, along with Miku, are some sort of vocaloid/robot hybrids with a purpose to sing. This is shown in one lyric: “my integrated circuits fried - a critical error”, and in a scene in P ² where Miku’s arm exposes some sort of endoskeleton.
The error may refer to her previous incarnation’s will to fight, in this life however; she concludes that her reason for fighting will be “singing for someone else’s sake so that they might live on”. The voice could also be Miku voicing out her struggles, and Gumi could hear it as they may be connected in some way. Since she mentions a person who’s justice is broken but their self still stands. This causes her to abandon her old purpose (singing) and embrace her new one (saving someone).
The world they live in an unfair one. Miku seems to recognize her role and hates the fact that she has to fit in with a lack of true identity, wanting it all to disappear. As for Gumi, In Justice Breaker she expresses her hope for the world to change (“Now, if you want to grasp the future, abandon those worthless illusions right now). A resistance movement then occurs, mentioned in P ² and RESISTANCE, where the people fight back against their society (“The inequality, the irrationality, it all disappears now!”). That may have lead the world to its ruin, or Miku took “fighting back” in a more cynical approach and fulfilled her wish to make everything disappear. Either way, Miku and Gumi are the only ones left in this world. Miku asks Gumi to disappear with her (“Let’s bid farewell”), after recognizing that she and her have similar perspectives on society. Gumi still has hope and likely in the heat of conflict, she shoots Miku but ends up alone. Gumi desperately wishes for a second chance in Speed Star (“Please hear my wish! Revive that kid!”).
They are reincarnated once more, as students in For Want Of Words and Fleeting. Gumi seems to remember her unfulfilled goal and desperately tries to reach out to Miku in a communication-less society-who is severely alone. Miku ends up jumping from a rooftop and dies. Gumi begins to recognize this scenario from her past life in Nostalgia Tactics and admits that she was too afraid to confront Miku properly (“Afraid, I choose to break it, without even being able to see the truth.” “I was too late. You melted into the twilight.”) It’s seems that the cycle repeats as in the next song Believe, sets in the far future where she tries to reach out to Miku again.
Tldr: Gumi and Miku are stuck in this cycle of being unable to save and be saved. Gumi remembers fragments of her past life’s mistakes but is doomed to repeat them. Hence the title “Nostalgia for Nothingness”.
Edit: I forgot to mention Everyone is Selfish, but it’s essentially Gumi expressing that she wants to reach out to people like she did in 0(+1).

Yes! Everything makes sense...except Resistance and Believe.. They seem to be connected judging by my own speculation of the lyrics, but they don't seem to fit into any of the current universes within NfN. Damn this impossibly catching web of stoy
