They could crossover globally but they're terrified of disrupting their delicate music industry system in favor of shady gaijin business practices. Just look at what happened with Shiina Ringo & her band Toyko Jihen, who 100% would have had international appeal- she never performed overseas... now she's just another nationalist performer, mostly hidden from the rest of the world, not the household name she could've been. Japan is so isolated that they can sell physical copies of music to their own people better than practically anywhere else in the world. It's entirely unique and nobody knows what will break their barriers down, if ever. Can you blame them for not wanting to? So, enjoy it as anime fans and Japanese music fans... but don't think they're going to do what Korea is doing with K-Pop anytime soon. (I dislike K-Pop anyway so I would rather Japan stay the way it is... being totally unique) Japan gives the world what we're allowed to have.. the rest you have to find on your own.
