I believe the orange light story goes: BMW invested loads of money into finding the most visible, but not binding at night and calming colour for the lights, hence why they have stuck with it all this time!
Yeah this is true, its so you can look down at the lights at night without your eyes having to readjust, hence why all the lights in BMWs are orange when you turn your lights on
Good video. Insightful and you do raise some good points about the 1 series not just the M140i. She is looking very stunning. Don’t get rid of the cold start. It’s there for a reason. Keep it. I have seen an aftermarket oil filter kit which looks good to resolve the known issue
great video brett ! the M140's will definitely be a future classic and well remembered car, its essentially a car the size of a astra/focus hatchback with a 3.0 litre turbo engine which is very unique! and what sets it apart from the golf and S3, Cupra etc , i actually like the orange backlight i think it looks better than white!
Best visual upgrade I did was to change the cluster to the LCI2 cluster. I got an M2 one but even the standard ones are so much better than the old style cluster.

5 things BMW did on the skimp to give you that b58 engine which is a no moan . Probably last of it for the 1 series. Loose a few for that beastly engine. Handling upgrade is a must definitely

Another thing I don't think it handles like a boat, I know it's not perfect but if you drive it smoothly round bends and make no sudden direction changes it's fine.
Thing with the m140i is if it was better, no one would buy an M2. I think BMW were smart and kept them as basic it as possible to help sales elsewhere. Amazing cars as it is but with a proper M touch these would be a top top seller even more than they are now. Not complaining as I have one aswell and they have endless possibilities with mods.
Also I absolutely love the m140i/m135i but the only thing is the insurance like holy sh*t.. my good friend of mine has got an a35 and its 305bhp and can get it insured for 1k ish (he has his licenses for 2.5yrs) and i done a quote for a m135i and it’s double like yes its a 3litre but still for the power wise its not much difference but even still gonna hopefully get the m140i or m135i in the near future just gonna have to stick with the 116D for now

I'm not someone who is bothered about having great audio in my car either, they were just terrible in comparison to the golf I had before it. Thing I hate about the m140 I have now... Has to be the idrive. Don't use the in built sat nav, just want a bit of android auto etc. Going to probably replace it with a droidUK unit though at some point as I can't code it I don't believe due to it not being a professional unit. Anyone with any alternative recommendations though, let me know!
Depends where you live mate. If you live in major cities or the outskirts of it, will be significantly higher. I'm 23 and live in south essex and my insurance is around £2500.

@@BrettBarnesYT even when switched off, when humidity is too high (e.g. warm, rainy day) the climate control kicks in periodically. You won't See it because the ac led is still off. But you can feel it. So you can't force climate control to be always 100% off, even if you want. This function is described in the manual.
My gripes: 1) the handbrake's hard to grab with the armrest fully extended 2) it's easy to punch your drink when gearchanging 3) the tray behind the cupholder is too small to hold modern phones
@@BrettBarnesYT Yup, over here in the Netherlands they will set you back an easy 35-40K EURO for a 2016/2017 model with low mileage. So that equates at or around 30K GBP :(. Was looking to get an 120i and get it to stage 1 (265HP).. but even those are expensive...
@@BrettBarnesYT My 2018 standard M140i handles fantastic! I was on my mates M4 bumper thrashing down country roads. He was dumb struck as we weren’t hanging around! I don’t understand the handling gripes? great brakes, chassis and balance. I’m 52 and have driven some great cars so I know what I’m talking about 👍🏻

I got a 114i pre lci stage 1 with m sport and the handling is insane!
It maybe good but nothing on a Porsche, Megan RS or M car for example.
Love the engine strut brace! Looks good in black but I imagine it would even look good colour matched to the car

the res delete is what makes the engine sound so raspy. should've gone for an aftermarket muffler/muffler delete instead sound way better

Red/orange light doesn’t affect your night vision.
I mean the white could effect your vision as it’s bright 😊. Hence why they put in orange 🙏
