I have a different opinion as a New Yorker who rides the subway daily. Since COVID, there has been an increase of mentally ill, menacing individuals on the subway who harrass and sometimes attack riders minding their own business. Progressive criminal justice policies have failed and many of us have grown more conservative on this issue as a result. Jordan Neely was a violent criminal who had assaulted multiple innocent people, including the elderly. On the day in question, he was displaying menacing behavior by throwing trash at riders and saying he doesn't care if he dies. Fellow straphangers felt threatened, and one intervened to protect others. Unfortunately, Penny accidentally took his life but Jordan placed himself in this position when he threatened other passengers. It's an unfortunate incident, but Daniel Penny should have never been criminally charged. Let's be intellectually honest. Furthermore, I find it offensive to compare his death to the murder of innocent Black men like Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner and Elijah McClain. There is no comparison.

Jury duty is biased in the way they pick people. I have met people that sat on about 4 and 5 cases and some that have been called multiple times and never chosen to sit in one trial.

As a New Yorker that was attacked sexually, physically aggressive, and verbally on the train, i can see why the verdict went the way it did.
This is NYC a tourist hub so, my coworker that is married to a cop said that one people want to feel safe and that judgement came so, that more people could stand up for each other.
I thought about the good Samaritan law, which depletes liability to someone trying to help when another person is in need.
However, I also thought of probably ng self defense, was a person actually hit or struck during Neely's rant because in order to use self defense you have to prove that you did everything to de-escalate the situation and was there anything that could have been done to not use deadly force. So, I want to know what angle Neely's attorneys were usung because it seems like the d.a. purposely dropped the ball just from the charges they chose.
Lastly, Petty is a vet, i want expecting any time at all but there should have been at least a criminal charge for the family to pursue him criminally and civilly. However, most lawyers only want a title and a paycheck, if you don't have the argued laid out for them, your damn sure not going to get the results you want.

I have a different opinion as a New Yorker who rides the subway daily. Since COVID, there has been an increase of mentally ill, menacing individuals on the subway who harrass and sometimes attack riders minding their own business. Progressive criminal justice policies have failed and many of us have grown more conservative on this issue as a result. Jordan Neely was a violent criminal who had assaulted multiple innocent people, including the elderly. On the day in question, he was displaying menacing behavior by throwing trash at riders and saying he doesn't care if he dies. Fellow straphangers felt threatened, and one intervened to protect others. Unfortunately, Penny accidentally took his life but Jordan placed himself in this position when he threatened other passengers. It's an unfortunate incident, but Daniel Penny should have never been criminally charged. Let's be intellectually honest. Furthermore, I find it offensive to compare his death to the murder of innocent Black men like Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner and Elijah McClain. There is no comparison.

As class warfare increases and chaos arises, the estb always seeks quick fix knee jerk solutions. And in doing so entrenches a particular class as the "elites", causing nepotism and cronyism to become the status quo. Institutions start the less powerful in society while chaos erupts in the privileged ranks.
Unless real honest change is brought a bout, the "system", it usually falls apart in a century or so. And this change always happens from the people at the "top", never the bottom up, coz that always results in violent revolutions.
