Not boring at all. It's all part of the build. Stoked that you're painting the body instead of Raptor Lining it (the outside). I would love for a vendor to invite you to SEMA 2024 to showcase your skills. Your work is better than most SEMA builds, and on par with some of the best. I also love that you do all the work yourself. Definitely deserve more subs to this channel!!
I would run the low mount alternator until it becomes a problem. There will be plenty of minor issues to fix when you start taking it out. Will be easier to be motivated to fix it when you start enjoying it.
Videos are great. I love watching all the “boring” stuff. It’s entertaining to see how much goes into a restoration like what you’re doing. Gives me little ideas and tips and tricks for if I do this in the future.
I'm thinking some kind of shield for the alternator... several others mentioned it too. I need to get my FJ40's windows rolling up and down again. Had in barn and humidity got to it, so outside until I can begin replacing panels and getting windows back in operation. I was just watching the disassembly of your doors. Big help. Love this whole build.
Well...the welding spark light looks very consistent.Very strong and that means professional in there. One day when the car is ready, it needs to be tested for its capability and durability. Haha
I personally think it’s your vehicle and you do what you’d like with it. You put the alternator there for a reason. You don’t have to justify it or change it. If it doesn’t work out, change it later. Awesome work, I enjoy watching your builds, keep them coming!
Leave the alt low. You aren't going to be leaving it in lakes over night. Ant seize the connections and if it really bothers you waterproof them with silicone.
Your alternator should be fine. The harmonic balancer is there as well. If you're going to be "forging " in deep water. Everything is going to get wet as is. Long time ago we made rubber splash guards to help some. Might even be able to fab a little tin work on the under side to block debris and some water. Coming down from the front bumper...
Hi there, I'm a huge fan of your work and amazed on how you built this project FJ40, I'm not an expert but I think you can keep the alternator on it's current position and just add a full skid plate or splash guard to keep it dry when off-roading.
Tundras have a low alternator and they seem to hold up pretty good. I would leave it and build a splash pan to go under it, Like the the other folks suggested. Only problem will be if you decide to go snorkeling.
Cannot wait to see you kill it with paint! I was curious if you couldn't flip the hinge light brackets upside down and swap sides so they fit on the top half (Windshield) side of the hinge. Then you could keep them on AND flip the windshield down. There would have to an extra wire loop of course. I have not paid too much attention to the comments since then so sorry if this has already been talked about. Things sick.
Great work Austin!! Your attention to detail is impressive. For now, I vote you leave the alternator where it is. If it becomes a problem, you can relocate it after you have the truck up and running.
22rs put the alternator right at the bottom, I did have some issues with it but honestly if you just clean it after you go through some nasty stuff (which you should be doing anyway) just hit it with a little water and it should be fine
Such a sick vid brotha, I wanna do this some day 🙏. Cool idea for an upcoming vid would be to make a full custom skid plate. It could protect the alternator, transfer case, everything. Great stuff brotha
Definitely move the alternator up there because in case when you'll be selling it the future buyer would want to have it up there. For the window glass would be nice if you could find a way to install them without those rubbers like modern cars.
I think the alternator is fine where it's at. Worst case scenario, run it like it is and if you start having issues then you can swap up the brackets and that bar. You shouldn't really have to mess with anything that can't be painted outside the rig
I had a VW with ass on AC and they mounted the compressor low like your alternatoer. I had to replace the beariings in the iddler pulley on the side of the road once and it was a pain. I would definately move it to avoid crap like I had deal with.
literally all modern toyota rigs run the alternator mounted low af. I never had an issue with mine during any water crossing. None of the other rigs i wheel with have either. so unless you plan on dunking it in salty ocean water. Its fine. maybe a splash sheild to save it from rocks or mud.
I did not find this episode boring at all. In fact I found it one of the better videos. My only suggestion would be to make the videos longer (30-45mins) and show a little more detail. Just my two cents. Fan of the channel though. 👍
Go ahead and redo it. I think it will be better higher up. It will also prevent you from wanting to kick yourself in the ass when water gushes into it and causes failure when youre in the middle of nowhere.
Since the body is easily detachable.. I'd say leave the alternator there.. If you were stuck trying to reach it all the time in a normal ride then yah it'd be a pain in the ass.
We're all sick of having to redo things, you're not alone there. If I were you I'd move the alternator, you'll thank yourself later for not breaking down in the middle of a mud hole. This is the best time to move it while it's still in the build stage.

Thank you man I appreciate that! I would love to bring this thing to sema!!
TONALLY AGREE WITH EVERY WORD BRO...1000%
I think he has too many driveshafts for a seam build!😂
Splash shield for the alternator 🤷🏻♂️
leave alternator where it’s at Austin , with your level of fab skills you can whip up a deflector shield in no time 🤙🏼
Build a shield that would protect the alternator
Those buttons on the windshield are for a soft top/bikini top! My dad has a ‘74 FJ40 and that’s where a soft top clips on
I agree with the splash shield for the alternator. With your setup you could knock that out pretty fast.
I would run the low mount alternator until it becomes a problem. There will be plenty of minor issues to fix when you start taking it out. Will be easier to be motivated to fix it when you start enjoying it.
Not boring !! It's the meat and potatoes of restoration and build.

Your work ethic is unreal bro…reminds me of how I used to be. Getting old sucks😂 Great vid as usual!!
You haven't put out a boring video yet, everything you do is interesting

It's not boring, its important stuff.
And i'm happy to see what truly is needed to do this project
Relocate the alternator. No regrets down the road after a deep water crossing
Well...the welding spark light looks very consistent.Very strong and that means professional in there. One day when the car is ready, it needs to be tested for its capability and durability.
Haha
My 2019 zr2 has a low alternator and deep water crossing are no problem and if you look at the forums the low alternator doesn’t seen to be a problem.
Your alternator is fine. Build a splash shield for it if you are that worried about it. I've crossed so many rivers in Alaska.....
I agree with the rest of the guys. You can try with a splash shield.
This isn’t boring!!! I can watch this all day!!!
I personally think it’s your vehicle and you do what you’d like with it. You put the alternator there for a reason. You don’t have to justify it or change it. If it doesn’t work out, change it later. Awesome work, I enjoy watching your builds, keep them coming!
Yes, place anything electrical as far away from water as possible you flood that alternator it gone. Great video, I’m a big FJ fan!
Leave the alt low. You aren't going to be leaving it in lakes over night. Ant seize the connections and if it really bothers you waterproof them with silicone.
Not boring men.. I will always wait this episode FJ 40 built.. 😁😁😁.. Hugs Frm Indonesia 🇮🇩

Great body work, precision welding very impressive work like always no short cuts =perfection 👌
I just love how you take things apart and clean them, before spraying and putting back together ❤❤❤ Respect is due!
I did a high mount alternator on my ls fj and it fits nicely
Dude i love this content. Honestly this is one of the least boring vids u have. I was glued to the screen watching
Awesome I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!!
Splash Shield / Skid Plate should do the trick
Even though it isn’t ideal for the alternator, many factory vehicles mount them there. Good example is the 80’s Toyota pickups.
fab u a splash shield for the alternator. seems like that would be less work and effort than re doing the strut towers.
I enjoy it. Not boring at all. Have you got a source for all the door seals? I could imagine that stuff could be tough to find.
22rs put the alternator right at the bottom, I did have some issues with it but honestly if you just clean it after you go through some nasty stuff (which you should be doing anyway) just hit it with a little water and it should be fine
Thanks for your video all that work it will pay off your work n your alternator is fine looks great can see your finish work
Such a sick vid brotha, I wanna do this some day 🙏. Cool idea for an upcoming vid would be to make a full custom skid plate. It could protect the alternator, transfer case, everything. Great stuff brotha

I think the silicone filled holes on the hood were to plug mounting holes for a hood ornament
Do it once, do it right. Every time I cut corners I regret it later on. Move that alternator now and you will thanks yourself later on.
I love watching the process, you give us a lot of ideas and solutions for our projects
It’s just a good idea to avoid deep water anyway.
Don’t change your alternator location.
Splash guard if you realistically don't plan on doing deep water crossings.
Old school Toyotas had the alternator down there and survived. Carry a spare if you're worried.
I have current production GM alternators on airboats that live in the rain no protection from the elements. They rarely go bad.
man!.. all that time you spent on those.. kudos ..
Nice work i am waiting for complet this project
Awesome vids man, I watch every one of the Fj40 build its going good so far mate
I had a VW with ass on AC and they mounted the compressor low like your alternatoer.
I had to replace the beariings in the iddler pulley on the side of the road once and it was a pain.
I would definately move it to avoid crap like I had deal with.
Looking good! What are you using for MIG wire on those panels?
Leave the alternator where it is. Make a shield for it.
Keep alternator where it is, not ideal but heaps of 4by s have low alternators
I won’t be redesigning the wheel over it
What color, my suggestion MT Dew green. Something Brite that gets your attention.
Pretty sure you can buy an off the shelf waterproof alternator now a days. Brushless....look in australia and in the mean time just run as is.
Dang, the way you're building it, it would probably last through like 10 of Wistlindiesel's durability tests.
He would still break it though
Jeep xj’s all have low mount alternators and seldom have issues. Just my .02 anyway
literally all modern toyota rigs run the alternator mounted low af. I never had an issue with mine during any water crossing. None of the other rigs i wheel with have either. so unless you plan on dunking it in salty ocean water. Its fine. maybe a splash sheild to save it from rocks or mud.
Great attention to detail good work
You will eventually moving the alternator weather you do it now or later is up to you lol
Build a shield/ splash gard.
i hope he goes with the orignal color or a poppy palette red ...not something dark and muted😅🤞
no .... don't sand blast ..... do acid dipping .... it's better .... bring it to some acid dipping place ..... i like it so far
have you considered just building a bracket to relocate the alternator higher up without messing up your frame as it stands now?
I did not find this episode boring at all. In fact I found it one of the better videos. My only suggestion would be to make the videos longer (30-45mins) and show a little more detail. Just my two cents. Fan of the channel though. 👍
Move the alternator back or buy a sealed alternator that they use for Toyotas in Australia.
Ill finish video later but the buttons on windscreen are probably for soft top
I’d relocate it now. It’s not gonna get any easier to do down the road and you have the added insurance of it being higher
I would go ahead get all windows tinted while it out.
Everything is looking much better. 😎
Do a Holley mid-mount accessory drive
Alternator there is fine until you see it's a problem but I think you'll be fine.
Is there grass growing on top of your mini truck?😂
Go ahead and redo it. I think it will be better higher up. It will also prevent you from wanting to kick yourself in the ass when water gushes into it and causes failure when youre in the middle of nowhere.

Lots of work but it’ll be worth it in the end
Just see how long it lasts in that position. I'm sure you'll forget all about after a few years.
Your altimeter should clear that cross bar without modification no?
how about a marine alternator
🎉🎉❤ ese proyecto es lo máximo estoy loco por verlo prendiendo
Unless you plan on snorkeling the truck, and doing water crossing-- I don't really see the point.
What you trying to hide? Those are the first ones I pull over!
Or just build it so you don’t have to worry about it.
We're all sick of having to redo things, you're not alone there. If I were you I'd move the alternator, you'll thank yourself later for not breaking down in the middle of a mud hole. This is the best time to move it while it's still in the build stage.
It will be fine…. just send it!
all content from your channel is good content
raise the alt,. do it right the first time or youll regret it later. way easier now than later
As always, awesome video!
Could you just use a sealed waterproof alternator. Only problem is there very expensive
Incredible job!
nah dont move the alternator, just put a guard under it.
If your plan is mostly rock crawling...no real need to move the alternator. IMHO.
Love it!! Thanks!
love the process and remake
Splash shield.
Kerja yang bagus...
I must be boring. Gonna watch again
Clear Coat No Paint!
Genioooooo .....
👍👍
Top as allways 🎉
