I still play this clip every time I open my RUclips. Charlie has this tune NAILED!! Great tight group. Listen to Johnny chopping the chords on that fiddle. Great stuff. Still working on this tune on my banjo. Getting there with this inspirational rendition.
Sounds like it came of the record! Years ago! The fiddle is spot on! But he learned what the sounds were like as a boy listening to his dad with Flatt and Scruggs! That’s Paul son ! Getr done boys!
I've got to shut this down , go get my banjo and keep practicing Sally Ann. This is really great - and Paul Warren's son. I have that Foggy Mountain Banjo album. It is one of the best instrumental albums ever. Cushman is so smooth and articulate on his playing. Bring us more of this group - please!!
@WildwoodvalleyBoy thats a pickguard, like guitars sometimes also have pickguards. on the upright bass its on a different position as you can see. =) banjotastic greetings from germany =)
I wouldn't dare to go as far as saying this is better than the originals. It's really great and I like all these guys, Charlie is a nice guy and the best banjo player I know. This is just as good, but to say above the guys who made this music, No.
what cracks me up is Charlie ad libbed on that second break and lucky him it came back in time...hilarious and so well played
Charlie picks the Best rendition of Sally Ann I've ever heard any banjo picker play!!

Awesome! Charlie is the best Scruggs-style banjo player I have heard!

Beautifully done! A fantastic group! That`s what a traditional bluegrass/old time tune SHOULD sound like.
Just had the pleasure of having Charlie as a teacher this past week. What a great time with a great guy. That's how ya do it, son.
You don't need a pre war to get that sound its all in the right hand boys.
Hard to beat an old Mastertone for richness of sound. That's some mighty fine fiddle playing as well.
Thanks so much for playing with the Earl's. Mighty fine bluegrass music.
Listened to this about 20 times now. Love it.
Forgot to mention Johnny Warren on fiddle is equally amazing!
Johnny's sound is very like his dad's; not unexpected,I suppose. This is terrific bluegras,s the way it should be played.
Well, it is his dads old fiddle and bow. It’s the same one that is heard on all the old Flatt & Scruggs recordings..
All you boys done a goooood job, fiddle player so smooth .Paul Warren would be proud!.......take care stay safe.......

I wonder if I was named for this song! I love banjo and fiddle so bad!
ole Kent is hammerin on the doghouse....he's always had that pick guard as long as i can remember....
What in the world kind of playing do you gotta do to need a pick guard on a bass, let alone get it so worn out like that?
That's a drum head. Look up Ernie Newton.
Don’t get no better than that boys
This is really "Sally Ann", and NTBCW "Sail Away Ladies".,,,PHENOMENOL! I,m wondering just what that piece of white is on the bass?
When I heard the fiddle I hit like!
