You’re probably too nice and then neighbour knows you’ll offer them some food. My friends know that of they show up at my house without me inviting them or them telling me they would like to come over at least an hour before, I’m not going to bother making the effort to open the door. They will wait outside till they’re tired and go home (although I’m in the house). If my friends can’t just show up, my neighbour can’t just show up (and have the audacity to want to eat what I just finished cooking after inviting themselves to my house). I’m nice, but I also like when people respect me and respect my boundaries.
