Best Smash Bros game you say? I dunno guys, combos are pretty overrated. All those hits in a row. Every once in a while you need to calm it down a bit, maybe even trip every now and then, to truly enjoy this luxurious meal. It can't be helped.

Looking back, it's funny how my favourite characters in Smash became my favourites because my friends thought they were trash, and I would play as them just to add extra salt to their wounds when I won. I remember practicing on Poké-Floats in my spare time just so that if it came up as the random stage selection I'd have an advantage.

Holy crap, this game looks so much different from competitive play. I almost forgot what casual play looked like. It's pretty refreshing.
Back in fifth grade, my friend invited myself and a bunch of other friends over for a sleep over and we played a four player 99 stock match. It lasted from 8:00pm until 4:30am. No breaks, no food, no more friends.
That sounds so rad but also super exhausting.

I looove the Friday Night Fisticuffs intro so much, it's easily my favorite channel intro.
You can actually see Pat grow and become better as a Smash player if you watch him throughout the video. He does Foxes sprint attack into up-air A to KO Liam, and he recognizes when Liam absolutely wrecks people, unlike Woolie who only lames it out, or Matt, who just did not turn on his brain, and won as Mario by doing nothing. That was an excellent sequence, though-- so thanks Matt for not learning.
Pat also accidentally figured out Sheik's ground forward A tilt into forward smash into aerial chases, a thing that many high level players do. Good stuff Pat, keep playing and learning. good stuff everybody-- story time starts below now.
Melee anecdotes time: in 2003 or so my Melee mini disc stopped working, and only started working briefly when I poured water on the disc, did not dry the disc, then put it back into my G-cube. I had no idea I was wrecking the innards of that beautiful black Gamecube, it was the saddest I'd ever been at the time.
Got a new Silver Gamecube, though.
I like to pretend the FNF intro video is directly aimed at me and they're all like "Hey dude c'mon in!" because I don't have any real friends and I wanna be their friend.

Random personal anecdote: I remember when we were too young to realize we needed external memory cards for the Gamecube, and so we'd just leave the game on rather than save.... and then we accidentally set a Time Match to Infinity, and removed Pause..... and it was set to Brinstar Depths....
This stage gives me post traumatic stress disorder now... I'd finished unlocking Mewtwo, too.... ;.;

This is it. This justified my purchase of a Gamecube and prompted all-night gaming sessions with me and my friends all those years ago. It wasn't uncommon for us to literally play this for over 10 hours only taking breaks to go to the bathroom and order pizza. All those epic matches between me and my friend between Link and Marth. SO MUCH NOSTALGIA!

Glad to see you guys actually play melee! Would've been hype if you all knew this game as well as you know standard fighters, but it was actually neat to watch casual play for a change--reminded me of how I used to play with my friends in HS!
Chrom's lack of inclusion in Kerfuffle is sad, but at least we got Lucina. Having said that, I honestly think they should have broken out of the pure moveset clone rut by at least giving Lucina Aether as her Up-B. Especially considering she actually gets Aether as her inherited skill from Chrom!

Well that would have taken effort and that clearly wasent their mindset. What pisses me off is that Sakurai can only think of Lucina and Chrom as clones and nothing else that was pretty much proven with Robin's Palutena's Guidance thing. They can come up with move sets for a dog with a duck, a yoga instructor and a fucking flat sprite but not characters who have material to work off of?

If this were a competitive match I would understand the debate, but when they're playing it as a party game it's entirely subjective which game is the best. I think most people who follow the competitive scene agree Melee and PM are the best two but arguing which is best as a party game is pointless.
When Matt mentioned playing games in his doctor's lobby, I flashed back to the Melee copy that was set up in my orthodontist's waiting room.

Why do people think they're going to play Smash 4 next week? You think they're going to unlock all of the characters and stages, get everyone together, record the episode, and have it uploaded all in one day? Sure, it's possible, but it's much more likely that they'll play Brawl next week, and Smash 4 the week after
why do so many people hate on items i play with about half the items on (personal preferences) and with medium appearance and its a blast.
just turn off hammers and the game is 100% fair and competitive tbh
items cause the game to be more "unbalanced" that is, one player gains an advantage against another because the game decided to make a poke-ball appear next to them. It leads to a less competitive environment. this is why they aren't allowed in tournaments and thus why players who try to push themselves to be better don't play with them on.
I personally play without hammers or fans and it's awesome
yeah but the chance aspect makes it fair. It's just as likely that one player will get an item as the other, and it's just as likely either will get a shitty pokemon or good pokemon.
If you're gonna play no items and final destination all the time, it loses some of what makes smash smash and not just another fighting game. Regardless, it's a good core fighting game that feels different than others.
random items make the game neither more or less fair. It just removes Player agency to the benefit of "weaker" players. If you take two players of different skill levels and have them play 100 games, they'll maybe get a score of 80-20 but with items it would tend closer to 50-50. It doesn't help the "better" player since their skill already gave them an advantage and they didn't need the items. but it helps the "lesser" player come back from losses.

I actually prefer Brawl to Melee dispite playing Melee first. Melee was a bit too fast and in some respects it was slower than Brawl, there's a lot of delay in shielding and dodging. Brawl seemed much less button mashy and more controlled to me. But SSB4 has somehow achieved a perfect balance for me to greatly enjoy.
I love seeing all the Zaibatsu members together to play a game. All our favorites.

I actually liked Brawl more than Melee because I like having fun with video games more than I like ignoring 95% of a game's content just to prove to other people how competitive I am.
That being said, the tripping in Brawl is still a load of horseshit.
Playing competitive is fun. I enjoy knowing that I won because I outplayed my opponent, not because I had a pokeball and a Heart container spawn next to me.
But all the anti-Brawl hyperbole is ridiculous.

Yeah, to each their own. It's not like the game forces you to play one way or the other, so I really don't understand the hostility between preferences. If you want to fight with nothing but the barest skills to see who has mastered their character better, go ahead. If you want to have a few items to occasionally mix things up or have the stage sometimes throw you for a loop, go ahead. If you want to have a downpour of items and duke it out with a full arsenal at all times, go ahead. But don't be an asshole and shit on the way other people like to play. It's just childish.

You could make the argument that casual play denies 95% of the games potential. You can't combo well, edgeguard, zero-to-death or use deep mindgames. That sounds alot worse to me than playing without items.

Oh man, those matches got hype! Just like with Smash 64, Pat did surprisingly well for barely playing Melee. And as usual, the Pat vs Woolie matches are amazing.
The whole "You already won the match" trash talk is great, I've got to try that sometime cause not only was it hilarious, it kinda worked.
