Been using only for couple of years now and it is great. I would say its even better than single in terms of connectivity. Only problem with it I would say the updates are quite late, which is expected from a fork.
We need this for Desktop. Desktop Signal is where we're really concerned about the security of the message database. I suppose QubesOS is a solution, but that's one heck of a solution.
Definitely can't wait for Signal to have local database encryption, especially on Desktop client. Phone client local database encryption on Android and iOS/iPadOS would be great as well! I salute Molly but kinda wish their contributions were just put into Signal proper... were their pull requests rejected or something?
The most selling point about Molly is that it supports multi devices which means if you have more than 2 smartphones, you can use it on each one. No remember if Signal supports this feature yet. I have used Molly about year now.
You can set Signal to automatically lock and require your phone unlock pin (on itself, not the phone's own GUI) to unlock it again after a time out that can be customized. Automatic chat backups has also been a feature on Signal for quite a while (I dunno what are the details for the encryption used for the backup, but it does require password or something).
It sucks so much that Signal prohibited publishing their applications in f-droid and in general they are against third-party clients. This is the only reason I don’t really like Signal. (immediately after forcing the use of the phone number, they seemed to say that they would remove it, but I’m not sure if they have already done this)
No, it really isn't. Signal's good. It doesn't track you, nobody can read your messages. You're not wanted by any government (I hope). Molly seems to just make it slightly more secure (on top of Signal's security). There's a difference between security, privacy and anonymity. Most people only really a decent bit of privacy and security. Polarized people may disagree, but it's like buying professional, super high end equipment for a child playing in a high school sport. It's extreme. If you're not being chased by someone, usually all you need to do is get rid of large-scale tracking. But it depends on what you're trying to avoid. And how much you can do without alienating yourself from friends and being too inconvenient and such.
There was plan for nods independent from signal, so that Molly users would be able to connect between each other even when infrastructure of Signal would fail. How is it going?
Great video! Interesting app. I'm wondering if Molly can only communicate with other Molly/Signal users or if it can also communicate with those using IOS or Google messenger?
So I had Molly-FOSS installed until one night it used 37% of my battery for no reason and it wasn't even registered at the time. Also it showed up as unverified when I messaged family using the actual signal app. Also You cant use actual signal backups to restore from. I like the idea but it isn't up to par.
Is it possible for this to only be currently available in the US perhaps? I'm Europe based and have searched for it in the Android app store, but does not come up.
The internet is not private never was never going to. There will be Light and Dark webs from now on. Good luck belly dancing to the hula hoops of backdoors. Great work though! Big fan!
Is there no iOS version because the developers of Molly don't want to do it, or because Apple is being Apple and making it extremely difficult if not impossible?
I got excited thinking maybe some useful features Signal is missing might show up. I was wrong. No way to easily sync or copy message history between different computers or drives, no way to sync entire past message history on a new device, no way to check SMS messages (like you used to), really basic video & voice calls. And with Molly, no desktop or IOS support. No thanks.
database encryption is mandatory to prevent from leaking the data withing the system by third party. For example by some malicious app from store etc. Disk encryption is only good for preventing leaking data from outside os the system.
No it's not, all federal agencies have access to tools such as Celebrite which have successfully broke through most disk encryption algorithms from the major Android manufactures. (offline bruteforce)
The biggest problem I have with inferior XMPP clones like Signal or Telegram is that you must use at least 1 smartphone to use it on a desktop. I clicked on this video because when I read the title, I had the expectation that Molly would fix this problem, but ended up disappointed to learn they didn't.
Funny enough XMPP actually cloned Signal's encryption with OMEMO :) ("The name "OMEMO" is a recursive acronym for "OMEMO Multi-End Message and Object Encryption". It is an open standard based on the Double Ratchet Algorithm and the Personal Eventing Protocol (PEP, XEP-0163). OMEMO offers future and forward secrecy and deniability with message synchronization and offline delivery." --- But in all seriousness, it would be cool to see desktop support. A hacky solution is there are a plethora of options to virtualize/emulate Android on desktop, so you can run Molly from desktop via those avenues. But yeah not native. Would love to see it.
Hey Henry❤, Is it okay to use signal messenger with real phone number?.. Everyone here use whatsapp, but am planning to move to signal atleast for my family conversations. You are my favourite❤❤
Signal now lets you hide your phone number, and you can utilize usernames for discovery. But you may still want to hide your number for additional protection. I made a guide for using Signal as safely as possible that's dedicated for helping you answer questions like this :) ruclips.net/video/DPjg3651oJM/видео.html

love it how Henry responds to every comment keep it up!
Molly is the best, been using it for 3years now

I'm just sick of chasing my tail now, when it comes to privacy. Is this one really that much better?
If you don't need it you don't need it!

See molly as qubes-whonix os and signal as tails os
Both safe but if your life is on line stick to molly
love these videos
Does this fork let you chat with Signal users who don't have Molly?
yes
Yes. They can't tell a difference. It's just a Signal client.
There was plan for nods independent from signal, so that Molly users would be able to connect between each other even when infrastructure of Signal would fail. How is it going?
You are a godsent as ush!
Would love your take on keet chat privacy app.
3:37 omg it's me lol
Ha! OP of the GItHub issue posted a comment too :) Gang's all here
Yoooo🎉
bruh both users here 😁
Can you transfer chats from Signal?
Yes. You can just log in as an additional device like with your laptop for example
@@rotzefairy Thanks
Interesting name wondering what that messenger will be used for if it's completely anonymus lol

are there any other forks?
what about for desktop?
any forks with good customization features?

Very interesting and cool
Do you know if this app will be made available to iOS?
Besides privacy, I like your epic stubble
Cannot import backup from newer versions of Signal. Can't use Molly because of that

It's not on the play store
You will probably need to download from f-droid or something. Many open source apps aren't on google play

hihi!
database encryption is little overboard feature. Smartphone usually have disk encryption so your data is encrypted.
It's definitely not required and I'd agree a little overboard :P But for people who want that additional protection it's cool they have the option!

Simplex

I've had my eye on them in addition to Threema. If Briar was on iOS too I would just use that.
