This was a cool vid! I’m a relatively new reader so I like seeing how people pick their books. I like your approach to having a big series with other flavors sprinkled in. I bet your spreadsheets for workouts and diet with contest prep is even more detailed
At the moment I'm building my TBR 2026. These days I'm finishing the last book from TBR 2024 and I'll start the one from next year. I don't read a lot per year (around 25 books) and because of that I allow myself to build the TBR ahead of time.
I am someone who has far too many series going at once. I should finish (or be caught up with) seven this year. I think I’ll still have sixteen I’m working on. 😂 I was thinking about reading the Wars of Light and Shadow next year because of John at Talking Story, but that’s a big commitment. Instead I’m going to keep mood reading and watching all of you lovely RUclipsrs. If a stand alone book is read for a book club/live discussion I’ll happily join in.
Really enjoying your content. Great planning approach. Not a book tuber but your video made me realise without planning I have a similar approach. 1 big series per year & 2 or 3 trilogies\quartets, then mood reads & events thrown in. So so tempted to do WLS in 25 too as had a false start in 23
I totally feel you about wanting to plan stuff out. Funny enough reading is one of the only things I dont really plan. I really only plan about a month ahead with reading.
I don't really plan, but like to read along when someone suggests a book or series, if I can get hold of the book/s. I'm definitely joining in John's readalong for the Janny Wurts books for next year. That sounds like fun. 💜
I done this with my gaming and it made me finish so many games, watching this i feel i will try and do one for reading but dont have a huge collection atm
Ah the new booktuber curse... good luck with all the buddy read temptations that pop up along the way 😅 I've been trying to add a little more structure so I actually close some series out. But not planning super far ahead because it just always gets blown up for me.
Wow this is brilliant haha - very well thought out, makes total sense. I started mood reading and enjoying it, but I like to plan a little and hit some criteria more often than not. Great video.
I love this level of madness!! See, I used to be a full-on mood reader, but ever since I became a more serious book blog reviewer, I have been making more solid plans so I get to ARCs in time. As for other reading plans and commitments though... I just can't stick to them hahah. I am a serial series starter and like to just go with the flow, which sometimes is great for burning through a series in one go if I get obsessed, but most often it just results in lots of chaos and open series lol. Maybe I should follow your lead and be a bit more structured sometimes 🤣
@@esmayrosalyne it does indeed feel like madness sometimes 😂😂 but that makes sense! Balancing that room for flexibility with enough structure to get to ARCs sounds like a good call
Great video. I like building a TBR but end up putting artificial restraints on myself and unattainable goals. I like the way you organize your TBR so I’m going to try to do your method for the remainder of the year, with about three books a month and more if I have extra time.
Ha! I was just having an internal battle about how many series I want to read at the same time. I'm currently reading Malazan, The Wandering Inn and Mistborn. I also read Stephen King to break up the genres (currently reading The Dead Zone). I'm glad you gave your perspective on this because I thought I might be doing myself a disservice by reading multiple series at once. I feel better now lol. I love this channel, btw!
Dude you are awesome! I love the way your brain works, you are brilliant😂 I could listen to you talk tbrs, books, and spreadsheets all day! So pumped for our book club, we have to start thinking of a sweet name😂 I am loving War of Light and Shadow so far! I am going to hop on book 2 when John and Brian get there so we should be on the same schedule then! Great video, my friend!
I admire your organized approach to your reading life, but even more important is how well you express the rewards of becoming part of a community of readers who support each other. I think you’ll get a lot from WOLAS when you get to it!
I’m starting Wars of Light and Shadow end of this year or beginning of next. I’m excited about it. I haven’t done a huge sprawling series like it in years.
I'm going to be reading Wars of Light and Shadow too next year, I'm starting in Jan and I'll be doing exactly what you are, reading along with everyone else :) And I'm available to chat with you as well during the experience :)
There really is something about reading alongside someone you can have a discussion with which is so awesome. Stoked to get into ours next month. Cool to see how intricate and free flowing you can be with your TBR too
I used to just browse my bookshelves for the next book but now that I’m on booktube, I have a planned TBR. I enjoy the planning as well - it makes me more conscious of how limited my time is and prioritise things like classics I really want to get to
Really interesting video. Maybe I should also be so well planned with my books. I read what is in my mood. Actual Mistborn 3 (Hero of Ages) as a book and the creativ act (Rick Rubin) as audiobook. At the beginning of the year I joined a community read along with the Gateway Trilogie (Frederick Pohl) that was fun. The 2025 project with all this other booktubers sounds amazing.
My TBR is way too long as I may have a slight book buying addiction that far outpaces my reading speed haha Similar to you I try to finish the series I have going on before I start a new one, currently have about 5 series I am working on I also have a manga series ongoing at the same time, currently I caught up to the volumes that are out for Kaiju No 8 so just started EdensZero and am loving it so far! Thanks for sharing your process! I always find it interesting to see how others approach it

I have tried planning TBRs, and I almost always fail at them 😅 I tend to be reading four to five books at any given time and just cycle through, and usually one or two are part of a series.
