He came from the deepest poverty, in the south, during the worst parts of segregation, and as a child, embrace and sought out the culture. He was well- aware of the struggle. He never forgot where he came from and called people sir and ma'am until the day he died. Aside from his personal struggles, he was REAL!
This song was extremely emotional for Elvis. He had such a passion for his music and what he believed in. So many of us still share this dream today. I remember when Dr. King was assainated. I had just arrived at work and sat in my car and cried. It was the saddest day for civil rights and equality ever. Had he lived, I feel we wouldn't be where we are now. I am 73 now and my heart hurts for the divide. Now they say "if you don't see color, you are a racist". I have never looked at anyone that way. I look at their eyes and smile and talk with them. If your heart is right and you have compassion, that makes me like you. I have many friends across the spectrum of color and I would like them to think of me ad a good person.

I read about how Elvis was talking with his music writer and became distraught over the assassination of MLK. The songwriter based the song on MLK’s “I Have A Dream” speech that is unsurpassed in its vision for a better world, if we only want it.
It was Parker that wanted the Comeback Special to be a Perry Como type Christmas Special but Elvis and producer Steve Binder ( who was only 24 then) had other ideas. One of the few times that Elvis got his way with Parker. Parker did manage to persuade Elvis to put in a Christmas song during the Special though during the sit-down segment when Elvis performed Blue Christmas.

The red scarf in this performance was a tribute to those who lost their lives in the Vietnam war.
I remember when Dr. King was assainated. I had just arrived at work and sat in my car and cried. It was the saddest day for civil rights and equality ever. Had he lived, I feel we wouldn't be where we are now. I am 73 now and my heart hurts for the divide. Now they say "if you don't see color, you are a racist". I have never looked at anyone that way. I look at their eyes and smile and talk with them. If your heart is right and you have compassion, that makes me like you. I have many friends across the spectrum of color and I would like them to think of me ad a good person.

It was an honor of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy who was shot and killed in '68 as well Elvis was very much a religious man I used to get mad and angry when people said things bad things about it now I've gotten to the age that I believe like my grandmother used to say she used to say it's how they was raised they don't know any better if you do your research you'll learn Elvis Presley was not a racist he was a great humanitarian and the best gift God ever gave to this world outside of his his son Jesus take care and God bless and peace be with you
The title of 'Colonel' given to Tom Parker was an honorary designation. There was no stolen valor issue. Elvis was bestowed with the title of 'Colonel' too; although he never used it.
As a retired military man , I think you might really enjoy a song called "Brothers In Arms" by the acapella group Home Free ... it's a stunning song about the futility of war .
We have to start understanding others and support each other and stop listening to the cause of it all which is government.

Everything in this performance has a purpose. The song itself was written by Earl Brown, inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech I Have a Dream. The song was written with Elvis in mind & it’s a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mr. Brown was aware of Elvis’s love for Dr. King. He also knew that Elvis was devastated by the news of Dr. King’s assassination. Just 9 miles away from Graceland (Elvis’s home). The white suit was also worn to accompany the song’s dream for better days. At the time, the conflict in Vietnam was heart wrenching. In remembrance, of the lives lost during the Vietnam war. The burgundy colored scarf Elvis wore around his neck, was for them.

Tom Parker played on this false title his whole career, and he was not even a U.S citizen. This is why he never traveled outside of the U.S, out of fear of being discovered and deported.

I read about how Elvis was talking with his music writer and became distraught over the assassination of MLK. The songwriter based the song on MLK’s “I Have A Dream” speech that is unsurpassed in its vision for a better world, if we only want it.
Actually they wanted him to end it with a Christmas Song, he refused and sang it honoring Martin and Robert Kennedy.
He went against the grain.
It was Parker that wanted the Comeback Special to be a Perry Como type Christmas Special but Elvis and producer Steve Binder ( who was only 24 then) had other ideas. One of the few times that Elvis got his way with Parker. Parker did manage to persuade Elvis to put in a Christmas song during the Special though during the sit-down segment when Elvis performed Blue Christmas.
