The space was there; blame the NSCC. There West Hall was empty; it could have been rented. Instead the National decided the East Hall & one of the areas off to the side was sufficient. They also could have employed a larger company to run their logistics & show and 99% of these issues would have been fine including lines & internet. Move it to Las Vegas ASAP. More to do at night, a slew of DIRECT flights, unlimited number of easily walkable Hotels, and a world-class Convention Center. It's a no-brainer.
It's an interesting problem. The answer IMO isn't to have a 1 million person National w thousands upon thousands of tables. The question is how do you scale and still create efficiency within display and user experience? A 10,,000 table National only creates an experience where users cannot see the majority of tables. How do you create this experience and keep the collectors and convention attendees in mind? Perhaps segregating partially by sport of different halls, maybe it's vetting the dealers and the inventory they plan to bring to create a diverse experience where patrons will be able to visit a large volume of the tables. Maybe it's having multiple locations with a main hub and a better way to vet cards and have locations that have commonality among dealers. The one thing you hear over and over is there is so many tables and the feeling of it being overwhelming. That sounds like a wonderful problem. But it's still a problem.
The wait times were not ideal, but they were 1 - 1.5 hrs long. We ate pizza every day and I only waited maybe 20 minutes in line. The bathroom in the back with the neon sign had a line, but it continuously moved along. I love how some people exaggerate the negative.

I'm from Ohio so it was close for me, but I-X does not need to host it again. Curious to see how Fanatics Fest goes in 2 weeks and if it runs differently than the National.
The Cleveland IX center has 1 million square feet of exhibit space, the DES center in Rosemont, IL has 840,000 square feet of space; the McCormick Place center in Chicago, IL has 2.6 million square feet of space (the largest convention center in the US). Maybe Fanatics can pass around the hat to all of the major sports leagues and build one massive convention city. One other thought, there could also be better organization (i.e. all vintage in one area, dealers specializing in one sport or have multiple smaller tables in specific sports areas, pop culture in one area). If there was better organization, there would be better flow of traffic and the show promoters would know which area to give a bigger space to the following year. This would also allow for more venues with multiple rooms to be included in the shows rotation.
McCormick Place hosted the '93 National, the only problem is that it's inconvenient to get to from the airport, the hotels are not connected to the venue, and most people will need to Uber to and from their hotel to get there. DES has 2.2 million square feet if you use all of the halls in the venue...which may be needed.

Like many soccer collectors, I thought the National really didn’t offer much outside of picking up cards from cardhobby. I only went Thursday and that was enough for me. Dealer prices were above eBay. Very few folks seemed to want to negotiate to at least be reasonable. Regarding the location, I liked it in Cleveland. IX Center is huge with tons of space. Venue could work on boosting the wireless signal getting in but beyond that it seemed fine.
Agreed, I had the same experience the first few days. However, it turned on Saturday, dealers were discounting below eBay, especially if you were buying multiple cards.

I would like to see fanatics get products into schools to help grow the hobby as well. Schools are always looking for prizes and stuff!
Grow the hobby? Most of Geoff’s videos are about super high end cards that 99% can’t afford. Most RUclipsrs in the hobby speak to a niche group of collectors as the average collector on an average budget can’t even relate to these guys. Just watch most RUclipsrs who went to the National and their videos on their big purchases last week and tell me how many people in the hobby can afford those cards?

I went to my first one this year and when I pulled I saw how massive the place was and couldn’t believe that that wasn’t even enough space for the event. One thing that is over looked is everyone has backpacks and people pulling literal suitcases around(which i thought was extremely annoying). It’s almost like this kind of event for how massive it is needs to be outside because there r only so many places that can hold an event like this. Also it should 100% have longer hours it’s just not simply enough time for the demand. I don’t think this is a good idea but it almost feels like there should be time slots for the corporate booths to get your redemptions and think kind of stuff to minimize the wait times especially for PSA. Also idk if the national knows what sports booths do but it feels like there was way to much vintage like way way to much… to me so much junk cards.

At least listen and add some value to the chat if you’re going to rush ahead of the line. (Yawn)
Not enough space for Card Collector 2? Big miss by the National who should be accommodating top social accounts to grow the hobby - too many old guard at the National, which is why despite playing nice right now, Fanatics is coming to eat their lunch ... National is too lazy, keeping it comfortable toggling between Chicago and Cleveland when there are so many other great locations out there
Only the kids want this loser set up. Long time dealers run the show, not some punk who just started and has his mouth open in position for every top dawg he meets.
Grease for brains
i think Atlantic City is way better than the last 2 venues and its not even close, tons of places to eat/sleep & everything is walking distance..1 thing that needs to stop, and i love watching the youtube videos but now its like everyone is walking around filming content and getting in peoples way and theyre all making the same videos and thats not good.
I think AC is still a realistic option too. Plenty of places to stay nearby and eat like you said.
