I don't think desk fans then used capacitors. Fans with capacitors became mainstrean in the 2000's, because there are box fans from the 1990's that wasn't built with a capacitor and they run well, the issue with that fan is bad wiring, and probably shot bearings.
@@smashingstuff09 The bearings needed to be oiled... Then the fan would most likely spin up faster. If the bearings are fine then the capacitor is prolly worn out, and needs replacing.
