  • This video was recorded from the cab of 3830 as it works from Wollongong to Sydney with a tour from the Illawarra region back to Sydney on May 11th, 2003.
The crew was Ian Thornton and Frank Johnson, both of whom are no longer with us. The performance of 3830 as it climbs to Waterfall is a testament to the skills and experience of these two enginemen. Also on the footplate was Jennifer Edmonds, who was one of the Powerhouse Museum employees extensively involved in the restoration and ongoing maintenance of the locomotive.

😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍this!!! 3830 is definitely an engine that should be brought back into tour service! C'mon PHM! How about finding that million or so dollars to replace the inner firebox that allegedly got "burnt" all those years ago???

@@AussiePom I remember Jennifer from way back then! She was one girl not afraid to get her hands dirty, and who actually knew her way around a steam locomotive!

@@tobys_transport_videos Yes she retained an air of femininity but as you say wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty. 3830 was her baby for I think she oversaw it's restoration from a very dead loco to a stunning operational loco. Bevan Wall filmed 3801 and 3830 on the Unaderra Moss Vale line in appalling weather where 3801 almost slipped to a stand and it was only 3830 pushing from behind and hauling the train too that kept 3801 on the move.
