    I actually own (owned) both cars, Tesla model 3 dual motor for 3 years and Kia Niro for 1 year. Ended up selling Tesla recently as Tesla had too many things that annoyed me and I overall enjoyed Kia more. I did felt that Tesla had longer range but I agree that range difference was not as big as I thought based on advertised maximum range. This was especially apparent during winter season when Tesla's battery drained alarmly quickly whereas Kia seem to be less affected by cold temperature. Maybe it was heat pump on Kia. Thanks for the video.

    I own both. At 130km/h, Tesla model 3 is the only ev that keep good range at that speed . Also when the Niro says x km or x % left, it is really what is left, at 2% you are in turtle mode and 5km after 0 you are out of juice. With the model 3LR you have still more than 40km left when you arrive at 0. Also if you want to keep the range, you can click on the preheat message, it will stop preheating, keeping more range...
    And the last, on long distance, with the Tesla, 20 min pause are enough whereas you need 40-45 Min with the Niro!

    Nice range comparison. Quite different cars, do you want a saloon or a hatch? Higher ride or lower. If you'd like a smaller version of the Niro the range on Kia Soul and Hyundai Kona are just about the same and as hatchbacks larger items can be fitted in than the Model 3 as long as rear seats are down,
    One comment on the video, would have been improved if the numbers you were speaking came up on the screen so you could see Tesla and Kia side by side at a glance especially when you switch from miles done to range left to different methods of comparing watts used per mile.

    • @TechInTheCar

      Thanks for the feedback and I will make sure to add that in future videos. They are different that is true. And now you can add in the IONIQ 5 and EV6 if your looking at EVs because they have even better range and technology. In normal times this would lower the cost of the existing models but with the silicon shortage the prices are probably higher on everything. And there is also a new eNiro as well now. So lots of options. I was very impressed with the range of this eNiro compared to the Tesla as I said in the video.

    Well done lads, however if I may : it be nice if, at interval, you populated a table and displayed it somewhere (upper-righthand corner perhaps) so we can keep track.
    I too am pleased that Hyundai, Kia, VW and now PoleStar are coming with "comparable" models. However the main thing to remember is that those cars will do similar mileage with a considerably bigger battery. On the other hand; as long as they keep the prices down -- consumers won't care. 400km is an excellent number for base autonomy .. over 600km {unless in a really cold climate} is not all that useful.

    Not sure when you filmed but the referral program has now stopped for Tesla miles. Nothing wrong at all with the indicators, I wish the rear bulbs were bigger though. In my opinion there are three reasons why people by the 3LR over the eNiro, 1 is the supercharger network. Even though it'll be open to all EVs soon, it's still a big bonus. 2 is they don't need it to be so practical (being a sedan), and 3 is the blistering acceleration at 4.2 seconds (late 2020 onwards). That's why I chose my Tesla. (I tried waving at other Tesla drivers, nothing happened 😂)

    What do you think of the interior in the Tesla. I hate lots of recycled plastic. Currently I am inclined towards a Mercedes EQ A or C but a 300 mile range would be nice. Problem with Mercedes at the moment is due to the chip shortage they don't have adaptive cruise control fitted unless you are ok waiting for a long time for a factory build.

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar 2 года назад +1

      I think the interior looks nice. I’m not sure it’s the best quality. Having said that even the German car companies are not using as good quality materials inside cars as they used to. I’d say Kia and Hyundai are making better interiors at the mid to premium right now. I haven’t driven those Mercedes and I hope I’ll be able to get into some in 2022. As for the delay it is effecting everyone. I too have a wait until November! I don’t think you want to buy an electric car without adaptive cruise personally.

    I. Have the opportunity of driving both. The Tesla is better by far with its software and autopilot and drivetrain. I also love the Kia because it’s very efficient. Even though it’s rated at 239 EPA miles I still get well beyond that in my driving experience. I would recommend it either EV. Misleading title. It measured the onscreen estimate only. It did not even get near empty, and it absolutely does not show the Tesla did not go as far.
    More importantly, it skipped over the charging time, which is super important for long distance travel. The Tesla sacrificed some power to get ready to charge faster, which would have made the trip easier and faster overall. If you were not going to count charge it time, why prep the tesla for charging?
    Also strange how much time you spent talking about the ease of use it Kia card, but did not show how easy the Tesla was. You literally just plug it in. You don’t even need to get a card out or swipe or anything.

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar 2 года назад

      In making a video you have lots of logistics to take into account and the truth is we didn't have time in the day to run either down so we had to stop where we did and compare the remaining range. Your totally right about the Tesla Supercharger network which was at the location we stopped and Clive had his Tesla plugged in 15 mins and was on the way and I had to spend an hour there. However I did say that the Tesla only finished with less range because of the pre-heating. The new Kia EV6 is even better than the e-Niro as well. But Tesla are the trendsetters and they have many amazing features and this video isn't meant to disparage Tesla in anyway. It is just an example of the same distances driven and the Kia has more range when we got to the charger which was interesting.

      You are right I didn't mention the Tesla charging network and ease of use because I take it for granted and expect it. However for every other EV there are many different charging providers with different apps and systems and that gets confusing so the Kia Charge card is a great help. Is the charging time super important? A niro gets around 250- 300miles per charge, so a 500 - 600 mile day of driving has one charge, which may set you back 20 minutes relative to the Tesla. If you sip electrons in the 20 -80% range on the way, this will be less.

    Tesla is getting passed by other auto makers. Just look at Lucid, Rimac and Rivian. 10 years ago, you could say Tesla stood alone, as only contender who could have given Tesla run for it's money, Nissan didn't even try to compete in high end EV market. But now, everyone is innovating faster than Tesla, and Tesla still has effectively only ONE model ( Model 3 and bloated Model 3). Model S and X are sold in such low volume it's effectively irrevent to Musk's ambition to conquer the world. Not to forget about Hyundai/ Kia and host of Chinese manufacturers such as BYD/ Nio/ Xpeng etc who are also doing fine job producing exciting EVs which rival Tesla
