  • Novak Djokovic defeated defending champion Rafael Nadal, 6-2, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1, in the final of the US Open 2011 to give the Serb his first title in New York, his third Grand Slam championship of the year and his fourth major overall.
Djokovic, who also won the Australian Open and Wimbledon that year, saved two match points in a five-set semifinal win over Roger Federer before defeating Nadal in the final. It was the first time the men's singles champion at the US Open won the title after being match point down since Andy Roddick’s five-set semifinal win over David Nalbandian preceded his triumph at Flushing Meadows in 2003.

@@jameswalker6864 We could argue that it's both. In tennis your prime is usually considered a period where you win a ton of titles and make deep runs in majors and masters, but your peak would be the highest point within that period. It's debatable if his peak is 2011 or 2015 though, but statistically 2015 is considered his peak and the best in the sport.

You have to commend Novak. He took tennis to another level. He stayed in the sport pounding the pavement from the time he began 2003 until today. He changed his diet to improve his breathing. He took the losses from Roger and Nadal for the first 5 years, then he began his run in 2011 and never looked back. He brought a new meaning to champion. He didn’t give up or cave under the pressure. He came from humble background. He deserves to be champion. Go NOLE!

Completely agree. The brutality of the hitting was immense. It was the culmination of a season in which Nadal was fighting for his life against the onslaught of Djokovic’s oncoming dominance. They were both so hungry for the win. It’s a match I come back to time and again, and often cite it as the classic in their rivalry.

I know they that 2015 Djokovič would destroy 2011 Djokovič, but the 2011 season was just something special. Totally different atmosphere, before that year, He never was No.1 in the world And then out of nowhere, 41 match winning streak, 3 out of 4 GS's and beating Nadal in 4 Masters 1000 Finals in a row And then in 2 other GS Finals, was just unique experience. Yes, 2015 season was amazing, maybe He was better player the whole season, but 2011 season was like fairytale. Simular to 2016 Leicester City season.

Yes I am lucky. If i pass on, having never Impacted anything during my time, I will leave with at least the satisfaction of watching the whole career of Michael Jordan, Jerry Rice, Barry Sanders, Novak Djokovic, Raphael Nadal & Roger Federer.
That is what I try to to elate to all the hate, bias & venom, against each of these three from their fan base. Which I am also guilty of, is that none of these woulda been great w/o the other. Ali would not have been as great, if no Joe.
We are SO LUCKY, to have THE three GREATEST tennis players, playing at once. This is so rare. It's like three Gretzky's. Think about it, if Andy Murray had been in any other era he would've been the GOAT. OR ATLEAST, the best record, with prolly 30 slams! Imagine 1 of them w/o the other 2. What are we talking 40 slams? It's truly an unique situation.
