Stanford Cardinal vs Washington Huskies - GetSportsFocus Football 2013

The Stanford Cardinals and the Washington Huskies, two undefeated teams squared off Saturday night in front of a sold out crowd at Stanford Stadium.
Stanford opened up the game with a 99 yard kick off return by Ty Montgomery. The Cardinals would add 3 points with a field goal by Jordan Williamson to start the second quarter and with less than 2 minutes in the first half Washington finally got on the board with a run up the middle by Bishop Sankey. With the extra point good, the Huskies trailed by only three heading in to the final seconds before intermission. Seconds later, Stanford answered right back with a pass from Kevin Hogan to Ty Montgomery down the right side and just like that the Cardinals extended the lead to 17-7 at half time.
Washington would come out in the third with fire and score on the first drive with a Keith Price bullet pass to Kevin Smith that made it 17-14.
On the ensuing drive, Stanford would pound the ball all the way inside the five using Tyler Gaffney. Kevin Hogan finish the drive with a QB sneak to extend the Cardinal lead to 24-14.
Mid-way thru the third quarter, Washington faked the punt, Travis Coons advanced the ball 19 yards up for a first down. They finished the drive with another run up the middle by Sankey, 24-21 Washington down by three.
The Cardinals special teams would come up big once again after Washington's scoring drive, Ty Montgomery returned the kick for 72 yards and with great field position, Stanford scored on an eleven yard TD by Gaffney, 31-21 Stanford up by 10 with plenty of football left.
A series of three and outs would set up this game for a dramatic finish. After Washington scored on a short pass from Price to Jaydon Mickens, they were back at it with less than two minutes left to play, with the Cardinal leading 31-28, the Huskies had the ball around midfield on 4th and long. Cardinal defense forced Price out of the pocket and as he rolled to his right, Price connected with his favorite receiver Smith beyond the first down marker and for a split second, it looked as if the visiting team were about to upset the top ranked Stanford team. But the ruling on the field was reviewed and over turned. Smith apparently trapped the ball that was thrown very low to the ground and that ended any hope of a comeback for Washington.
But perhaps the turning point of the game came the Huskies drive before the last when Stanford defense forced a turnover. Trent Murphy blocked a pass from Price intended for Mickens. LB AJ Tarpley ended up with the ball and kept Stanford's streak of interceptions to 29 games.
Stanford Cardinals defeated the Washington Huskies 31-28.
