Dan!!!!! My boots made it into a video!! Dunno why but me and the missus just got so excited seeing that, how sad are we!! Thanks again for the brilliant job you did, highly recommended!
It never ceases to amaze me how complex shoe construction can be - even with today's shoes. Also, It seems the art hasn't changed that much in the last few centuries. Somewhere, floating around on the net, is a picture of a pair of shoes in some museum that once belonged to some Pope or some senior official of the church. They are amazingly well preserved so you can actually see how very well they were constructed and how beautiful they must have been when new. I frankly didn't believe they were as old as they were stated to be. Something like 500 years or some such. Amazing. I love craft.
Hey Dan, I just wanted to say you’re amazing. I suffer with anxiety and depersonalisation and your videos along with the music really help and make me more relaxed. Keep doing what your doing!
It's a great day when we get an update from Dan! Ron got a little sassy in this vid. This is really an awesome cobbler. Thanks for sharing your life with us. J
My dad was stationed at RAF Woodbridge from 1976 to 1978. One of the girls I went to school with on the base now lives in Tring these some 40+ years later. I have asked her through FB if she had ever been to your shop. She had not but she does know where your shop is and drives by it quite often. So, if you ever have to wonder why an American like me is interested in your videos other than the fact that you are entertaining and I enjoy your presentation - now you know. Keep up the good work...
Just discovered this channel. It’s nice to see someone making an honest living , with high quality craftsmanship. I wish you the best in all your endeavors.
I was very interested in seeing how the motocross boots were done. Wow an hour to remove the rubber is crazy. On a side note, I tend to be fascinated by what other phone ringers sound like in other countries. Great video Dan!
Watching this video (and others in the channel) I keep thinking "oh, so that's how they do that". It's fascinating to see how things work and how they're made, especially when it's such an essential thing that we all rely on almost every day yet typically take completely for granted without a moment's consideration.
I love seeing the inner workings of a cobbler shop- some jobs are just tough but showing us makes customers appreciate what you do ( hopefully!) Thanks Dan, A fan in the USA🥾
Gaerne sg12’s are the top of the line riding boots. $550 boot there. Very durable, protective and stylish at the same time. I race xc quads and let me tell you it’s not fun slipping off a peg and having your foot caught between your nerf bar and rear wheel. Your whole back of your leg gets skinned up pretty bad. That’s nothing for these boots. Plus the boots are so strong you don’t end up twisting your ankle either. Been there done that not fun. Kicking a bike over with them is night and day too.
Loving seeing a day in the life of a fellow handiworker! It really is tough work, even with all our specialized machines and tools. Very jealous of your gorgeous post-arm walking foot machines for the zippers.
If by "chadness" you mean "successful business owner", then yes. Dude's a *beast*. I'd give him my custom if I lived nearby. He's exactly what I want in my local business. Quality, persistence, and a reasonable price.
How happy I would have been if a craftsman like you were in my town. When I took my favorite shoes that I had been wearing for many years to a nearby repair shop, I was told that they could not be repaired and threw them away. But after watching this video, I knew it could be repaired.
Just subscribed this month but cant stop watching these videos, who knew that shoe repairing could be so interesting, great craftsmanship done to a high standard great work Dan 🔥🔥
Hi from Vancouver, B.C., Canada...cool collage clip Dan! I liked seeing you changing the belt for the sander but would like to see more of the workings of the machine, especially how it's dust collection system works. Keep up the great vids! Cheers, Rick
believe it or not dying or not out here in America you don't find that many shoemakers anymore I should go to all the time to get my shoes done and my belts keep up the good work man it's great to see a guy that knows what he's doing with shoes 👍👍
I grew up in a small town in south Texas that had five custom boot shops. These cobblers were artisans, and their incredible designs would leave me astounded. Many of their patrons were international personages. It's reassuring to see cobblers such as Ron plying their skills.
Gotta say I have absolutely zero interest in cobbling, but I must say watching you work is so relaxing I never knew how much work there was in shoe repairs, you certainly earn your money i am now a subscriber cheers biddy keep it up
I love how you call the sole the “unit.” I use unit more as the Urban Dictionary defines it, so I often catch myself looking back at the screen to see what kind of unit you’re holding.
It'll live. I dont think any damage is going to be caused from the nut pressing on the wheel too tightly, or the wheel pressing on the back of the bar too tightly. If anything the wheel might have an indent in it at the end of it's life span; luckily, they're disposable anyway.
I have the solution to your stubborn rubber sole removing problem!!! You need a tire grooving iron! They are used in the repair of truck tires and the modification of tires for various types of racing. Such an iron would take that sole off in just a few minutes.
Best video so far.. More variety, same great humour and tempo, plus super handy tips (such as the arrow on the sandpaper) and just enough of a lucky duck and a rainbow to satisfy the casual subscriber
I had a pair of boots that had closed-cell compressed foam soles (like your motor cross boots) resoled by the manufacturer who is local to my area. I got to see a bit of the work being done, and they used a hot knife (which is really a hot piano wire) to slice the bulk of the old sole off before taking it to the grinder to remove the left over. Don't know if you do enough of those type of soles to justify the cost; but you could probably try with a cheap soldering iron to see if it cuts it without making a mess.
R soles 😄 but there was a shop in Brighton in the 90s in the imperial arcade called R soles and all they sold were cow boy boots and did indeed purchase a pair from them.Ah memories
WOW! I was sad that my OLD ASS pair of Johnson and Murphy, wing tips were heading for the hopper, and I know, "they are not what they used to be...". But thanks to you, I will defiantly seek out a cobbler, to save them. Thank you! Unfortunately, we live in a disposable world...
It's June 26th today...four months after this video was posted. And even though I have things to get done around the house, I find myself sitting here being intrigued and fascinated...and for some off reason not being able to pull myself away. Guess those are just a few reasons why I'm finding myself adding me to your subscriber base. Keep up the great work mate. Cheers!
Like the format of the "couple of shorts" as an alternative to the longer shots and too also give small jobs some screentime as they are still interesting to watch.
I wouldn't mind having a little shop like that. Would be interested to see some of the daily stresses or frustrations. If there are any. Just to be completely transparent.
Nice video. Your little wire wheel wasnt put back together right. You put the flat washer on the out side that goes on the inside and the lock washer goes on the out side so the nut dont loosen up you. And i wish you were here in the states its hard to find a good shoe smith like you
Cool video again Dan. I can spend hours at my Cobbler's shop. He lets me do little things but I want to try doing a resole on a pair of my Allen Edmounds myself but with his guidance of course
I was watching another fellow it must be a common thing in your country for cobblers to also do keys. I think it’s a very interesting combination. Being that I live in the land of throwaway, we don’t have many cobblers left. My work conditions I destroy my boots uppers and lowers so they’re worn slick and the stitching is usually coming undone and have holes in both upper and lower so I end up just buying new boots
Great video, I've got a pair of boots that need resoling. They current soles don't have much wear on them but they have terrible grip. I'd like to replace them with good rubber soles, like the Dainite I've seen in a couple of your other videos. 👍
the chach on that frig sake is kaput. might want to hoot the whistler in accordance with them grabber antlers so MX dude doesn't wind up cartwheeling through the rhubarb
Legend has it, that washer is still sitting there to this day.
I caught that too. The key machine is one washer lighter than it should be... :)
Checkmate 🎖
we need more likes so he would notice the comment
yup, I'd say he is a much better cobbler than blacksmith/machine maintenance kinda guy
If you don't have extra parts when you are finished, you haven't fixed it enough... Fix it till you break it, I always say.
Dan!!!!! My boots made it into a video!! Dunno why but me and the missus just got so excited seeing that, how sad are we!!
Thanks again for the brilliant job you did, highly recommended!
My pleasure my friend haha!
Nothing sad about that my man. It would be an honor to be featured.
@@TheNunakun it is, will be taking more boots to Dan that’s for sure!
Dan ya sexy man, good job
Witch boots were yours ?

I get anxious too, this is calming! But I thought I'd crack one... I got anxious pronouncing dep, depresation...... nevermind.
Appreciate it man and you’re very welcome.
I think these kind of random job episodes could be an occasional thing like an addition to the usual episodes ? haha cool vid btw cheers
Actually could be couple times a week gets old seeing the same jobs over and over.

This style with all the different jobs is a great addition! God bless

This was an absolute boon of a video for info drops. Such a capable craftsman and with a gift for teaching makes this channel invaluable!
It's crazy how much work goes in the background, people only see the surface they don't know what's going on behind the scenes, I totally get it!
I used to walk past the R Soles shop in Chelsea regularly. I’ve never seen any of their boots in the wild before.
What a bunch of R-soles eh? lol
I like the short quick repairs. Gives a glimpse into what goes on in the shop day to day.
Just discovered this channel. It’s nice to see someone making an honest living , with high quality craftsmanship.

Literally my new favorite thing about RUclips

Really enjoyed this style of video. Getting to see a more day to day running of the business. Great work Dan .keep erm coming

Most of today's shoes are made to be trashed in a year, not fixed.
What a waste.
Ron! What a pal.
Gotta say I have absolutely zero interest in cobbling, but I must say watching you work is so relaxing I never knew how much work there was in shoe repairs, you certainly earn your money i am now a subscriber cheers biddy keep it up
i like that you sing randomly while you work
It's amazing what that polish at 8:25 is capable of doing
I love how you call the sole the “unit.” I use unit more as the Urban Dictionary defines it, so I often catch myself looking back at the screen to see what kind of unit you’re holding.
When you changed the wirewheel you forgot to put back one of the washers.

Famous last words “it’ll live” lol
It's good for a relief video. nice to know some of the other aspects of your job
Enjoy watching the variety of different repairs.
Gonna get me a pair of those Pirate Slippers if its the last thing I do.
As long as the random videos have variety, I really like them. Nice to see a bunch of different stuff in one vid. Good pacing.
I have the solution to your stubborn rubber sole removing problem!!! You need a tire grooving iron! They are used in the repair of truck tires and the modification of tires for various types of racing. Such an iron would take that sole off in just a few minutes.
Interesting stuff. I'd say there's a place for both this type of video and the ones that focus solely on a single big job.
Best video so far.. More variety, same great humour and tempo, plus super handy tips (such as the arrow on the sandpaper) and just enough of a lucky duck and a rainbow to satisfy the casual subscriber
very fun video! love seeing the smaller types of jobs you do!
No me entero de nada de lo que hablas, pero me gusta ver como reparas los zapatos. You are a teacher.!!!
So it’s nearly 50K subscribers! Not too shabby. Happy for you mate.

Hey Dan, great idea showing maintenance job on shop's machines in this video. 👍
You really need to replace that Lock Washer! @ 16-30 how does that Side Cutter work? Maybe a vid on all the machinery.
Congrats on the shop and the channels success bro. Hope you succeed brother.
From one cobbler to another, respect mate 💪
Recently found your channel and loving the vids 👌 You're a real craft man

Great episode so many diverse jobs . Motocross boots looked such a hard work job ..tough as old boots you might say 😏
Wow the difference on those boots after the restoration polish!
Dan, you’re hilarious and adorable. I’ve come to love your videos and your daggy jokes and singing. You sound like a great guy. I wish you well.
Great Job Dan! Cheers from Italy

Nice job Brother! Especially the moto boots! I wear SIDI's and love them. Anthony's in LA does my resoling for me. Thanks for the outstanding video!
Thanks!
good to see your daily work, thanks for the interesting video!
Love rockport good old Chav boots.still got mine from years ago
Ok! New York City needs a good cobbler... OK we need to hear you sing some more
Love the smaller cheaper jobs.
