I'm comiting myself more and more on climate change I really want too switch over to electric MX bike.Reviews seem to be great on these electric bikes and good for the environment.
I can't wait for electric bikes to really take off. This is coming from a 2 stroke guy. Hopefully battery tech improves to the point where you can ride multiple hours and I can finally justify buying one
Thats the only reason i don't want an e-bike at the moment, you don't get much riding time. But I love this KTM! Looks sick and looks to be so much fun!
Battery tech is evolving rapidly, but you are absolutely correct. Once battery tech makes that leap forward I believe you will see a mass movement towards electric bike, cars etc. Also I think the electric vehicle industry is doing itself a disservice by not allowing shade tree mechanics and aftermarket suppliers access to their products.
Same thing, I don't want to deal with maintenance. Don't have the time or the know-how for anything more involved than an air filter change. I switched over to mountain biking in fact, just due to that fact. Near-zero maintenance is what I'm after. But, like you said, battery life is a huge concern. That and these KTM Freerides need 220V connectors.
Wow!! I went from combustion mower/leaf blower/weedeater to battery powered equipment and I absolutely love it. I’d love to do the same with my dirtbike.
I had a 2006 Christini CRF250 AWD for many years. It railed through deep sand and was impossible to crash in rock-gardens or slippery downhills. A small electric motor in the front hub with programming to work with the rear motor of this KTM would be the ultimate!
I love watching you race electric be gas!!! Love older motocross videos of people whipping Alta MX electric against gas and taking it to them!!! Man you make this KTM electric look easy to ride… never rode a dirt bike before, I wonder if I could ride this? Maybe in low power mode I could teach myself
@Spenser Robert My dude! Thanks. Yup, I'm all good. Simple crash but hit the wrong part of my body first, haha. Glad I had that 6D helmet on. 😎 Hope to see you soon man!
@@ElectricCycleRider keep up the good work. You looked awesome out there. That was the best add for electric bikes I have seen yet. Totally jealous, I can't afford any bike now but if I set some cash aside maybe by the time I get there the battery technology will be much better?
Thanks Chris! KTM (and most other manufacturers) already have competitive bikes behind closed doors. It's just a matter of time before they're released... In the meantime, have you checked out the Stark Varg yet? ruclips.net/video/PzFnHlQ93Tw/видео.html
Monster Torque, you need to keep all your weight over that back wheel or it gets away from you, at 9:40 you can see you took your weight up off the back wheel before the turn and squirreled out. Glad you had a helmet. Electric is impressive. We are a few battery chemistries away from making gas obsolete, I'll miss gas but the torque is just amazing in electric.
It would be great to have a quick change battery system so after given time, you make a battery swap during the race. How long will it run on one battery anyway?
It's too bad you crashed, it looked like you were doing really well! I just subscribed today after seeing your test ride on the CZEM Drill One. I've been thinking about electrifying one of my mountain bikes. This looks like a neat channel!
Yooo the e bike really just fucking everyone up from the get go,the acceleration on the electric bikes now are so fucking crazy, the bottom and end torque is nutty, but what’s crazy is even when fully opened up on the throttle it’s still matching if not beating every other bike
I know I'm late to the party ... just seeing this for the 1st time today. Really nice riding BTW. Anyway, do you think the battery would have had enough charge in it to finish the race if the front wheel alignment had not been tweaked when you crashed? I don't know if you were carrying any tools during the race, but as I'm sure you know, it's a pretty quick fix to re-align a front wheel. Although you likely wouldn't have been able to properly torque the pinch bolts on the triple clamp and front axle, you could have done well enough to by feel and have been back in the race inside of a couple of minutes. I understand that you may have been feeling the effects of the crash by the time you decided it wasn't worth carrying on, and certainly don't fault you for not doing so, but I was really hoping to see whether the Freeride battery can go the distance in this type of racing. Hope you're fully recovered now. Thanks again for posting.
@actionsportster Thank you! I appreciate it. For sure, it was more about my head than the twisted forks. Ended up getting a minor concussion on that one and wasn't willing to risk it any further! It would have been really close to finish the race on the 1 battery. If I'm honest, I think it might have died around the last lap. These enduro/hare scramble races are tough with the current batteries due to the length of the races. We'll get there though!

The battery housing needs to be part of the chassis to save weigh and or increase the battery size. Alternatively add the battery inside the tubing or add two batteries beside each other but need it to not overheat and run at least 2 hours
@Operator Chaos The forks just twisted in the triple clamps when I went down, pretty common thing in a crash. Just need to loosen and retighten the triple clamp bolts and it will come back to straight. I could have just bashed it back straight and kept going but I pulled off because of my head. 👍

Going well out there. Great footage. It’s so easy to make mistakes on long hot rides. Look forward to seeing you out there again. What class / cc of gas bikes were you racing against??
@Cam Dunnage Thanks! For sure, you're right about that. I was racing in the Unclassified Class here which is an Open Class. There was everything from 450 4 strokes to 125 2T out there. I don't have many class options at these races because the bike doesn't fit into most categories and I have to be selective with the race length.

Glad your ok but I know you probably woke up with a headache the next day. At least I'm glad you knew that it was time to take it easy and call it a day after that crash.
@Victor Vazquez For sure, bit of a headache the next day. It wasn't worth it to keep going but I'll be out there again for another attempt! Thanks for the note.
Suspension is the real problem on the Sur Ron after or before adding power. Its about as plush as a potato.Big heavy bikes with real bike suspension i.e not cheap MTB downhill forks are so much better to ride.Off road up a hill the KTM would eat it alive ,72v and a bac8000 or not just due to the suspension alone.
@Matthew Pinfield For sure! I would like to test one with the ASI Controller. @Fpvlee is right though, suspension and weight play a big factor between these two bikes. The Sur-Ron will not behave like the KTM no matter how much money is thrown at the suspension and motor/battery. The chassis, suspension design and weight of the bike have a limiting effect. I'll work on getting a test like this going though, we're constantly trying different things with the bikes to improve it.
@@ElectricCycleRider Sorry, didn't mean to disrespect you, but dam, with a lead like you had, I'd have straightened that front end and pushed on for the win. Deal with the headache from the podium.
@@tomdoe4295 No worries man, it honestly was just not worth it to me to push it for a laid-back race like this. Seeing double and would likely have crashed again.

@Cody Davis Thanks man!! I think we'll start to see more E classes develop. I genuinely hope it doesn't fully take over because it's great to have gas bikes on the track too. We shall see. Thanks for watching 👍
@Benjamin Hawkhurst The course was approximately 5 miles long and the race is scored on fastest laps + most laps completed in 1.5 hours. So laps might vary based on the rider. Faster riders might get 1 or even 2 more laps in that timeframe than slower riders. It would have been hard for me to stay competitive all the way through because despite my crash, I am pretty confident I would have had more laps in me than the bike had battery life.
Electric Cycle Rider I understand. It looked like a fun race despite the crash. Did just the bars bend or did your triple clamps twist also? It really didn’t seem like a hard lay down on the bike, your head yes, but the bike failed it looks like because of weakness. Too bad. I don’t have one YET, so it’s something to be addressed with suspension upgrades.
@John Hancock Great question! It's hard to get an exact percentage because of the way the battery levels are displayed on the KTM but the bike had 2 of the 3 green bars left, which means it had between 70-50% battery remaining. My guess is it was closer to 50 than 70 at that point. I hope KTM improves the display moving forward to a more precise battery readout. Thanks for the question.
Whoa! I dropped my biscuit when you whipped out! That wasn't expected! Bummer bro- I'm so into these electric bikes, deff wanted to see you complete that one. good call being safe.
Holeshotting machines! That course is sick! Great job while it lasted. My suspension will be full a MX setup, with both forks having Comp & Reb. Curious to see what you think of it when you ride it during your visit. That top triple clamp is the only real beef I have with the Freeride. The single pinch bolt just sucks! The X-Trig clamp would probably fix the bike from getting all twisted up every time you breathe on it, but I can’t cough up the money yet 🤣 Broke as hell at the moment with my 250F purchase... and now I’m going to have a crapload of medical bills 💩 Time to find some more unused crap around the house to sell!
@John Howerton Thanks John! It was super fun while it lasted. I agree with your thoughts for sure. Bummer to hear about your crash and hospital visit. Hope you heal up quick and get back on the bike soon. 👍
I enjoyed seeing this. Hopefully you'll get a chance to run a whole race and answer the questions all of us curious people want to know about "can it..." Here in south Louisiana when we twist the front end in a race, there's always a tree to bang the tire on to straighten things up. It works most of the time. Great video!
@Chris Pederson Thanks Chris. It's tough to choose a class with these electric bikes because they don't meet a lot of specific class requirements. I'm pretty limited due to bike "displacement" and length of the race. Once these bikes become more mainstream, I think we'll start to see more classes tailored to these bikes but until then, I have to enter what I'm allowed to.
Wow Tucker, hole shot indeed! Kept waiting for an overtake.. was there any? 🤔 At that speed, I assumed it was all hard pack, but that moment you were righting the bike, the top of your boot was swallowed by sand 😱 ..dude..
@Dan Valley Thanks Dan!! It's always so hard to see the terrain features on the helmet cam angle but it was quite sandy in several areas. The back portion of the course was routed through a sand wash canyon area. Really fun track! I had the pack close behind me when I went down and everyone passed by me while I was sorting my bike out. Thanks for the note! 👍
They are awesome I would rather have one of those less maintenance for sure lighter faster no shifting but way too much money that sucks they need to bring the price down I'm still on my cr80 1998 6 gears love it but an ebike would b so nice if they bring the price down they will have a futer for sure or only rich or wealth can get them 10 grand that's crazy

How long is that loop? And how many laps in 1.5 hours?
I know you didn’t finish the race but what was the battery % when you finished?
@John Hancock Great question! It's hard to get an exact percentage because of the way the battery levels are displayed on the KTM but the bike had 2 of the 3 green bars left, which means it had between 70-50% battery remaining. My guess is it was closer to 50 than 70 at that point. I hope KTM improves the display moving forward to a more precise battery readout. Thanks for the question.
Looks awesome ! Where is this ? Thanks for the video.
Just found it, CO!
@motosporttouring Yup! RAM Off Road Park in Colorado. 👍
Good race, hope nothing serious happened with head.
How battery did on those few laps?
Cheers 🤘
Great run thanks for sharing and could have happen to anyone.
@Tom R Thanks for watching Tom!
I hope your head is ok 👌
@ATCr Thanks! I'm all good now. Great testament to the 6D helmet I was wearing. Always a reminder to invest in a good helmet! 👍
I have a fox v1
I think its just my good noggin or like grand pappy used to say the big nut
Hope all is good with you,......peace
great video ! thank you !
@ROGER WALDMAN 🙌
Great bike.👍
Whoa! I dropped my biscuit when you whipped out! That wasn't expected! Bummer bro- I'm so into these electric bikes, deff wanted to see you complete that one.
good call being safe.
@Dat Jeep Cray Thanks man! Appreciate the note!
Electric Cycle Rider thanks my friend 🤙
I enjoyed seeing this. Hopefully you'll get a chance to run a whole race and answer the questions all of us curious people want to know about "can it..." Here in south Louisiana when we twist the front end in a race, there's always a tree to bang the tire on to straighten things up. It works most of the time. Great video!
Sucks man you were kicking ass!
To bad that you dumped it because you owned that track. Hope your okay. Thanks for the ride but for me , I wanna hear the engine rip.
sick ride dude ! this was very fun to watch, greetings
@R3dN3ck FPV Thanks so much man! It was fun while it lasted!
I respect how good you ride but I am thinking you need to move up a class nobody was even close it seemed.
@@ElectricCycleRider You'd think they'd allow you to enter an Open A or something like that...
Great way to sneak up on riders
@Michael Reilly That's the part that kind of sketches me out! Haha. I wish it were more obvious that I was behind them! 👍
wish we had these as kids we could of rode anywhere. no one would hear us ripping down alleys or fields.
bro what the in every race i see him he crashes. bro wtf.in every race you bend or breake your bike in some way.
Crazy :O
Do another race
Nice bike
Until you pry my 4-stroke from my cold..dead..hands.....Jk, I welcome the electrics!
@Darin Curtis 😂 Not to worry, this bike has plenty of 2t and 4t roomates!
Haha, that’s what the 2stroke guys said about four strokes when they first were introduced into the market/industry
Smart decision to shut it down
9:40 Epic
Glad you are not hurt....thanks for the video...very cool!!!!
@Donsfast Thank you! I appreciate that!! 👍
Wow Tucker, hole shot indeed! Kept waiting for an overtake.. was there any? 🤔
At that speed, I assumed it was all hard pack, but that moment you were righting the bike, the top of your boot was swallowed by sand 😱 ..dude..
Looked like that guy you got distracted by him looking backwards and you trying to turn left and it being to soft
it is clear u need to watercool the battery
I'm all about gas but this is kinda cool
They are awesome I would rather have one of those less maintenance for sure lighter faster no shifting but way too much money that sucks they need to bring the price down I'm still on my cr80 1998 6 gears love it but an ebike would b so nice if they bring the price down they will have a futer for sure or only rich or wealth can get them 10 grand that's crazy
Kej pa je ce ni motokros bike
Googled 2020 KTM Freeride E-XC, $10,500, too expensive.
Is this bike a sur ron ?
@juan k oro It's a 2020 KTM Freeride E-XC
Annnnddddd the electric bike pulls in first
👍
