Great to see the late Bert Weedon, and hear him pay homage. I met the man once at a guitar show in England. What a guy, he was small in stature, humble, well dressed, revered and polite. He was there because he loved music and he loved guitars. Enough said, what a guy.
Everything about Django,s playing was amazing. His endless stream of musical ideas his sublime phrasing and timing but what is mindblowing is his uncanny ability to transfer any musical idea instantly to the fretboard no matter how fast or complicated
The sheer exuberance of Minor Swing is amazing. Can't you just see those guys playing that and grinning at each other, knowing that this one is really working? After the "Oh yeah" at the end, you just know that they all lit up a fresh smoke and looked at each other, knowing that they hit this one right out of the park?
Lawrence L I believe you may be confused, they are playing the wonderful J'attendreai, and on this take I understand they are actually miming to a recording for the film camera, hence the smiles. Don't always believe what you see/hear. I don't think they are playing Minor Swing at the end either, if you look at the tempo and the stops for the bass run, that too is a recorded overlay.
i went for guitar lessons back in 1976 here was me as a 17 year old the teacher i had was very much a jazz guitarist and though him i learned about Django Reinhardt
i agree his right hand more than make up for his injured fingers. And. You could practice 24 hours a day for the rest of your life and youl never get as good as django no one will
Dont often agree with .the best this or the best that. But ive heard all the contenders for the greatest guitarist. And Django is way ahead of everybody
Django inspired toni iommi who lost the tips of his fingers while working in a steel mill, toni was the guitarist in the hard Rock band known as black sabbath.
maxwellfan55 i am a guitar player, name me a tony iommi solo that is legendary, not insultin the man, great riffs and songs, but his solos are pretty basic
insane to think how the guitar has evolved. what was once mind blowing playing is now just intermediate. but GOLLY if they didnt pave the way for peoples imagination after seeing what could be accomplished with a little inspiration.
He's a fine guitarist, but the greatest? I hate when they post thing's like that, there are many guitarist's past and present, nobody is the greatest, but there are many great guitar players, I could not even begin to start naming them off because there are so many. To this person who posted this, in his opinion this guy may be what he thinks is the greatest and I would give you odds he doesn't play the guitar. Just my personal opinion. P.S. I play a Martin which is a great guitar but so is Guild,Gibson etc, etc.
Russell Makar dufus, the option of Django being the greatest guitarist did not originate with the narrator of the video, on the contrary, that opinion is shared by some of todays guitar god's including but not limited to, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, who upon first hearing a Django recording thought that there were two guitarist's playing, and no there were no multitrack recording in the 1930's. Plus the guy develops this amazing ability while overcoming the handicap of only having two working fingers on his fretting hand!!! You try that DORK. So in short, why don't you just STFU and troll off elsewhere because your opinion is absolutely unbelievablely absurd, you moronic sperm receptical
If Beck says Django is the best ever then its game over mate, end of . I've been seeing Beck since 1965 and he is the governor of guitar, always has been. But Django is the spirit of swing guitar , he threw the instrument into the world and said listen up!!!!
I reckon the best guitar players in the world are pissed off that Django decided to visit planet earth and show them that they are not as good as they thought they are
It's nonsense about the fire accident. I have it on good authority that Django had a pal who was a neurologist. He told Django that the brain copes better with 2 fingers than 4. Django went home and stuck his pinky and ring finger in the toaster. All history is made up. Just let the man play his brilliant music.
Hey man, don't care about what you think but Chet Atkins like all the others were kneel before Django and that includes all jazz/blues/rock guitar players and even some classical and.... Jimmy Hendrix, Georges Benson, Eric Clapton etc... I think they knew better than you what we are talking about ok ...?

Wow. I really love the internet. Thank you for introducing me to this music.
mrsnigl
What phenomenal story. I love his playing and especially the instrumental tunes
Il jouait avec 2 doigts point barre ! Je l'aime il est beau et chic et classe
i went for guitar lessons back in 1976 here was me as a 17 year old the teacher i had was very much a jazz guitarist and though him i learned about Django Reinhardt
Django is King👑...❤
he was a brilliant guitar player R.I.P
Few ever mention his right hand technique, which is equally important.
For the love of the truth no, everything can be learned if you try hard enough
For the love of the truth ridiculous
no, you need expression talent
@@jazzguitar_22 It is not possible to become Django Reinhardt. If it is, show it!
i agree his right hand more than make up for his injured fingers. And. You could practice 24 hours a day for the rest of your life and youl never get as good as django no one will
bert weedon said django was the greatest guitarist ever and that's coming from a man who was pretty good himself
A genius like nicola tesla and albert einstein, django for music Jah bless him !
On ne fera jamais mieux que. Lui
Dont often agree with .the best this or the best that. But ive heard all the contenders for the greatest guitarist. And Django is way ahead of everybody
yes, ever.
Django inspired toni iommi who lost the tips of his fingers while working in a steel mill, toni was the guitarist in the hard Rock band known as black sabbath.

Daniel Gilley great rythm guitarist shit lead
Paul Murray Wow, you are so wrong. Obviously NOT a guitar player.
maxwellfan55 i am a guitar player, name me a tony iommi solo that is legendary, not insultin the man, great riffs and songs, but his solos are pretty basic
Paul. You've now just confirmed to everyone why you're NOT a guitar player.
what video is that at the end where they're "playing" minor swing?
please and thank you!
X me il migliore chitarrista del mondo nn ha uguali. Sfido i migliori chitarristi di qualunque genere a superarlo. Un vero dono della natura
this is the guy who influenced Glen Campbell,Django and Glen, I would have loved to see these guys together playing guitar.
I had never heard of Django Reinhardt until I saw a list that Chet Atkins had made of the greatest guitar players. He ranked Django as #1.
Django is great ,so is Oscar Aleman nad other SA musicians
insane to think how the guitar has evolved. what was once mind blowing playing is now just intermediate. but GOLLY if they didnt pave the way for peoples imagination after seeing what could be accomplished with a little inspiration.
Are you referring to Django being intermediate? Because that’s absurd if you are.
You guys gotta get out more!
2 fingers ! Now thats tops #1. No one can do that. And look at his childhood poverty. The best

Russ Makar (631) 255-0378
You're right, nobody is the greatest....but with one exception : DJANGO REINHARDT
Russell Makar. At last someone with sus and intelligence, not following the crowd.

hey I love Django and I'm a Django apprentice but the truth is Django is the 2nd greatest - Chet Atkins is the Greatest! !!!
Ha ha ha... this is probably the most stupid comment I've ever heard
Selmer No, yours is.
Selmer. It's getting late, time for bed and hot milk for you dude, it's school tomorrow..
Oh you're right man...It's better for me to go to bed....It's tiring to discuss with guys able to argue wisely...
Paul Gilbert is better and who is kidding. So is Satriani, Vai, Petrucci, Segovia and Zappa. This type of playing is so 1940s.
