  • In this video, Vladimir London, a Life Drawing Academy tutor (lifedrawing.ac..., will show how to draw a cube in a two-point perspective. The horizon line is at the top and the vanishing point is located on that line. This drawing begins with a horizontal ellipse. It is a circle in one-point perspective. Two diagonals of the square around that circle cross in the center of the oval; and they also cross that oval in four points. These points are used to draw a smaller square and inscribe another oval inside. This geometry helps to build the cube's footprint. The width of the circle inscribed into the footprint is equal to the cube's height. This dimension is marked as "A". At the top, we can now build another virtual square in one-point perspective and inscribe a circle into that square. The cube's vertical edges span upward to that circle. All that is left is to complete the top side of this cube. Although I've used the one-point perspective to build this cube, it actually has two vanishing points. 0:15 how did you determine the length and width of the ellipse?

The ellipse dimensions depend on elevation and proximity to a viewer. To learn how to draw in perspective, take the Life Drawing Academy Correspondence Course - lifedrawing.academy/correspondence-course
