  • Donald Trump has pardoned 1,500 Jan 6 rioters and commuted the sentences of 14 others who stormed the US Capitol four years ago.
The move “ends a grave national injustice” and “begins a process of national reconciliation”, according to the text of the executive order.
The sweeping action issued a “full, complete and unconditional pardon” to anyone connected with the riot, apart from 14 - many of whom were connected to the Oath Keepers militia group - who saw their sentences commuted.
Earlier on Monday, Mr Trump rescinded 78 actions by the Biden administration, which the Republican labelled “destructive and radical”, at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
He also signed orders to end remote working for federal workers, instituted a hiring freeze of government employees, withdraw from the Paris climate accord, and end government “censorship”.
Mr Trump put his name to nine executive orders in total before throwing the pens he used to do so into the crowd.
